Greatest Legacy of the Magus Universe

Chapter 794: Parting Gift

Sitting under the shade of the oak tree, countless thoughts swirled inside Adamʼs mind. His heart was churning with tumultuous waves as a result.

”Anna,” he softly muttered, his lips curling up into a smile. ”So sheʼs returned!”

Seeing Adamʼs reaction, the middle-aged man understood that he knew the red-haired lady. He was grateful to have shared the information with him in the end. Because earlier, he was hesitating to.

Meanwhile, Adam was ecstatic at the discovery. He turned to the middle-aged man and asked eagerly, ”When did you say she came here?”

”Almost three months ago, my lord,” the man answered truthfully.

”And she was in a group?”

”Yes, my lord.” The man nodded. ”Two men and two women. Although one of the men was very old.”

Adam lowered his head, sinking into deep thoughts. The people with her should be from her Kingdom. Her retinue, perhaps? And this old man… Heʼs very likely to be her protector.

Anna was a princess of a magus kingdom in Europa, after all. It was normal for her to go around with her retinue and even have a protector with her at all times.

If she was here almost three months ago, then she should have already reached Moon City by now, he thought.

She knows that I went to Clover Academy and that that would be the best place to look for me, assuming she thinks Iʼm still at the Academy… wait…

The Academy!

Adamʼs expression turned dark in a matter of moments. The Clover Academy was no longer the haven that he thought it was.

To be more precise, it was no longer run by the same person whom he thought he knew!

If sheʼs gone to the Academy, Iʼm sure sheʼs met Headmistress Godfrey by now. What if…

He couldnʼt help but assume the worst.

No! I have no way of knowing that. Besides, Anna had three more people with her. Perhaps, all of them are Mana Liquefaction Magi.

But the strange feeling in his heart wasnʼt alleviated in the least. He couldnʼt help but think that Anna might be in danger if she really did go to Clover Academy.

After all, he had confirmed personally that Headmistress Godfrey was in league with the Cult of Bones.

He also knew that the Cult Leader, for some reason, was very interested in him. This could be seen when that mysterious person had sent four Mana Vortex Magi to capture him in Blackshore. Even the Cultists had claimed so when they fought him.

The Headmistress knows of my relation with Anna, Adam thought.

If she tries to do anything to her in order to capture me…

Adamʼs dark eyes flashed with blazing flames of anger. He wasnʼt planning on going to Moon City because he wanted to avoid the Headmistress and stay in the dark for the time being.

But on the off chance that his speculations were true, then he would truly not hesitate to take down the Headmistress and save the person who was the closest thing to a family to him.

”M-My Lord!!” The middle-aged man had fallen to his knees, his body drenched in sweat.

The sudden burst of emotions from Adam had caused his heart to be gripped by terror. He wondered if something he had said had ticked the youth off.

He was even beginning to think that he wouldnʼt get to live past sunset. The demonic expression on Adamʼs face caused a severe chill to crawl down his spine.

Realizing what he had involuntarily done, Adam immediately retrieved his aura.

The higher a Magus advanced, the more their thoughts, intents, and emotions reacted with their own mana. This resulted in a form of aura that was almost tangible in nature.

”Apologies,” said the raven-haired youth. He rose to his feet and turned towards the distance. There, he saw Luna happily galloping across the fields.

A loud whistle pierced through the air, instantly catching the Night Mareʼs attention. The next moment, she turned towards the source of the whistle and saw Adam beckoning to her.

Adam then turned to the middle-aged man who was still kneeling on the ground and gasping for air. ”I will be on my way then,” he said.

”Y-Yes, yes, my lord!” The man got to his feet and sincerely bowed. He had never been so happy about the departure of another person.

After this young Magus left, he would finally be able to breathe in relief.

Adam deeply looked at the man, then he turned his attention towards his family, who were standing at the entrance of the hut.

They looked utterly terrified of him. This caused Adam to feel bitter in his heart.

The world of mortals and the world of Magi are indeed disconnected. These people will always fear what they do not understand, he thought.

Adam placed his hand on his chest and gave a light bow. ”I must once again thank you for looking after my parentsʼ graves, and I hope that you will continue to do so.”

He paused for a moment before adding, ”And thank you for sharing this new information with me.”

”P-Please, my lord, please donʼt bow to the likes of me. I am just a farmer,” the middle-aged man said in a panic.

Adam shook his head ever so slightly, finding the manʼs reactions quite amusing.

And I am the son of a farmer. Whatʼs the point youʼre trying to make? He mused.

When Luna arrived, the man was petrified by the aura of terror she radiated. But there was nothing anyone could do about it. This was the innate ability of the Night Mare species.

Adam mounted Luna, ready to depart. The following moment, Valerian jumped from the branch of the tree and gracefully landed before Adam.

Luna stood on her hind legs, neighing excitedly. Adam turned to the middle-aged man and nodded. ”Farewell.”

With that said, Luna galloped towards the horizon. Within a few moments, the group had already disappeared from sight.

”What… what a fast horse!” The middle-aged man exclaimed as he wiped the sweat from his forehead.

”Who would have thought… that those graves would belong to the parents of such a mighty figure?” The manʼs wife approached him from behind.

The middle-aged man revealed a dry smile, ”We should be fortunate that the Magus did not outright kill us. I have heard stories about how they—”

”Papa! Mama! Look!” The little girlʼs voice interrupted their conversation.

The couple hurriedly turned around, fearing that something might have happened to their children. They immediately rushed inside their hut. Upon entering, they saw the little boy and girl kneeling before a wooden chest.

”What is it?” The middle-aged man approached them in panic. ”Why did you—”

But his words got caught in his throat when he saw the contents of the chest.

”This… Am I seeing things?!” Even the woman had her eyes wide open. ”This canʼt be real!”

”Papa!” The little boy called out, his eyes gleaming with happiness. ”Did that man leave this for us? Is this… a parting gift?”

”Who else could it be?!” The little girl giggled. She looked at the contents of the chest and beamed, ”We wonʼt have to worry about food for the rest of our lives now! Yay!”

Tears trickled down the manʼs cheeks when he heard his daughter speak those words. He gave his wife a warm hug and whispered, ”Everything will be alright now. Yes, everything will be alright...”

His gaze never once left the wooden chest, for it was filled to the brim with bronze and silver coins!
