The process of refining elixirs in the Netherworld is extremely troublesome.

Xu Wendong happened to have browsed through some books before and even found a secret manual on alchemy.

The methods recorded for refining elixirs were very peculiar.

Flames used in regular alchemy are the ultimate fires of the mortal world, but in the Netherworld, refining elixirs requires soul power. Merely using soul power to continuously heat the Pill Furnace can cause the medicinal effects within the ingredients to be released.

It was Xu Wendong’s first time refining Netherworld elixirs, and he couldn’t help but feel a bit nervous.

He took a deep breath, trying to calm himself down.

Sitting crossed-legged in front of the Pill Furnace, his expression focused, he suddenly clapped his hand, sending a powerful stream of soul power out from his palm.

The stream of soul power, like a lively snake, wrapped around the Pill Furnace.

With a loud ”buzz,” the Pill Furnace instantly turned crimson, as if ignited, emitting a blazing light.

At the same time, the surrounding temperature surged dramatically. A wave of heat enveloped Xu Wendong, quickly drenching him in sweat as his clothing stuck closely to his body.

”Is this... okay?” Xu Wendong exclaimed in surprise, his eyes flickering with curiosity as a curious smile crept onto his lips.

He couldn’t help but marvel at how peculiar the Netherworld’s alchemy method was.

However, on first glance, it didn’t seem as difficult as he imagined.

Cautiously, Xu Wendong tossed in a piece of medicinal herb.

As soon as the herb touched the Pill Furnace, it instantly vaporized, dispersing into a wisp of green smoke.

This scene left Xu Wendong dumbfounded, his eyes widened and his face full of shock.

”Was the temperature too high? I actually lost a piece of medicinal herb. Luckily, I didn’t throw all the herbs in, or it would’ve been a huge loss.” He thought to himself with relief.

Subsequently, Xu Wendong quickly lessened the output of soul power, lowering the furnace’s temperature.

However, after tossing in the herb this time, over a shichen passed without any sign of the herb being refined.

Xu Wendong frowned, realizing that the temperature was clearly too low.

Controlling the temperature using soul power was truly challenging, making it difficult for Xu Wendong to find the right heat, causing the alchemy process to reach a standstill with no progress.

”This won’t do!” Xu Wendong shook his head helplessly, a hint of anxiety revealed in his eyes.

He understood well that training a qualified alchemist from scratch required an immeasurable amount of time and resources, explaining why there were so few alchemists.

If it weren’t for the situation with Li Lingtian, he could have taken his time exploring and gaining experience.

But now, the situation was urgent, leaving no room for any idleness.

”Soul power isn’t great for temperature control, but what about Yin Fire?”

”Could Yin Fire be used to refine elixirs?” Xu Wendong furrowed his brows, deep in thought.

Suddenly, his eyes brightened as he had an idea.

He immediately drew out Yin Fire from his Dantian.

The Yin Fire enveloped the Pill Furnace with a ”woosh,” like a layer of mysterious Flame Armor.

The temperature began to rise slowly, and Xu Wendong watched the Pill Furnace anxiously.

He threw in the medicinal herb again, watching as the herb started to refine, releasing its medicinal effect bit by bit.

A glimmer of excitement flashed in Xu Wendong’s eyes - success!

The Yin Fire he obtained on Lake Heart Island, he had no idea where it originated or its grade, but it seemed to be working well for now.

”All of it, go in!” Xu Wendong gritted his teeth, throwing all the medicinal ingredients into the Pill Furnace.

His alchemy method was unique, hard for others to imitate.

Before long, a rich fragrance of medicine started wafting out, its aroma rich and lasting, as if carrying a mysterious power.

Inside the Pill Furnace, the medicinal liquid churned like turbulent waves, with the medicinal effects of all the herbs gradually merging together under the influence of the Yin Fire.

As the Yin Fire continued to burn, the medicinal liquid within the Pill Furnace began to slowly coalesce.

Gradually, a quaint little elixir appeared before him.

This elixir shimmered with a dim light, exuding a mysterious aura.

But Xu Wendong knew it wasn’t yet complete.

He took a deep breath, his expression solemn.

He outstretched a finger, a thread of Yang Energy like a dexterous thread wormed into the Pill Furnace.

Originally, this step customarily required the use of the Nine Profound Supreme Yang Grass, which was a Fifth-grade Treasure Medicine. To be honest, Xu Wendong was somewhat reluctant to use it.

More importantly, treating Li Lingtian didn’t require such precious ingredients. Instead, injecting a strand of Yang Energy could equally unblock Li Lingtian’s clogged meridians, and its effect would only be stronger.

As the Yang Energy penetrated the elixir, a flame pattern slowly emerged on its surface.

In the midst of the burning Yin Fire, the lid of the Pill Furnace suddenly flew open with a ”bang.”

In an instant.

A dense white steam erupted, followed by howling Yin winds, as if a mini-storm was brewing.

Seeing this, Xu Wendong immediately retracted the Yin Fire, reaching out to securely grab the elixir into his hand.

”A Fifth-grade Elixir, the Yangtian Fierce Wind Pill!” Xu Wendong’s lips curled into a smug smile.

He marveled inwardly that his first attempt yielded a Fifth-grade Elixir, something he had seen in an ancient book at the Scripture Hall, unexpectedly putting it to use today.

”Junior Brother, have you succeeded? My father is ready,” Li Jiayin’s anxious voice rang out from outside, tinged with anticipation and a hint of worry.

Xu Wendong wasn’t in a rush to go out. He shouted loudly, ”Senior Sister, it’s done, but this elixir is a bit special. Let me grind it into powder first for Master to take.”

With that, he picked up the elixir and carefully crushed it into powder.

He thought to himself, jokingly - this is a Fifth-grade Elixir!

Even in the Heavenly Nether Sect, there probably aren’t many of these.

If anyone found out that he refined it, Li Lingtian would be the first to capture him for thorough investigation.

A Fifth-grade Alchemist is respected no matter where they are, and a small sect like Heavenly Nether almost couldn’t provoke one.

And a disciple who just entered the sect managing to refine a Fifth-grade Elixir would undoubtedly cause a great stir.

Soon, Xu Wendong finished preparing the elixir powder before stepping out of the room.

He saw Li Jiayin waiting anxiously outside, and even Li Lingtian was there, sitting in a wheelchair, being pushed over by someone.

Li Lingtian had a pale complexion with exhaustion in his eyes, yet he forced himself to appear spirited.

”Junior Brother, the elixir?” Li Jiayin hurriedly stepped forward, her eyes full of anticipation as she asked eagerly.

”Well...” Xu Wendong chuckled awkwardly, scratching his head, unsure how to explain.

Seeing this, Li Lingtian assumed Xu Wendong had failed.

He gently shook his head, a trace of desolateness appearing on his face as he sighed, ”Never mind, it’s fate. Lin Mo’s willingness to make this effort is already commendable filial piety. As his master, I accept it.”
