Chapter 202: End-of-term exam (7) · Oct 17, 2026
Chapter List (202)
「Exam over. Exam over. All personnel return to the Base Camp.」
「Everyone, lower your weapons. I repeat. Everyone, lower your weapons.」
「From this time on, subjugated Demonic Beasts will not be reflected in your score.」
As the sun was about to disappear above the tree canopy.
The voices of the Evaluators announcing the end of the exam echoed throughout the forest.
”Evaluator! We are still in the middle of combat, so......”
”Lower your weapons. I will Handle it.”
While the exam was ongoing, the knights firmly maintained their stance as bystanders no matter what happened.
However, the moment the exam ended, they drew their weapons to protect the students.Crunch! Thwack!
The knights’ weapons easily split the skulls of the Demonic Beasts.
As if they were merely pruning twigs, not a single hint of tension could be seen in the knights’ Facial expressions.
From the perspective of the students who had barely managed to fight them off as a Party, it was a deflating sight.
”So this is...... a knight......”
”Hah...... Hah...... We have a long way to go.”
Like that, the knights harvested the lives of the Demonic Beasts and escorted the students Outside the Wall of the Demonic Realm.
Soon, as the sun hid itself beyond the horizon.
The Hero Parties scattered throughout the forest began returning to the station one by one.
— ”Linel and 4 others. All have returned.”
— ”Erika and 3 others. All Valkyries have returned.”
Reports of students returning were heard from all over the station that had become the Base Camp.
In the empty lot next to that station, a massive emergency Tent was set up.
In front of the Tent, Green, Yellow, Red, and Black flags fluttered in the wind.
It was the Triage system devised by Yulian and finalized by Diocesan Head Raylick, which had now become the standard classification system for all battlefields.
Healers restlessly pushed the returning patients under those flags.
”Comminuted or open fractures go under the yellow flag! Those whose Bleeding won’t stop are temporarily classified as Red!”
”Anyone with open wounds, please receive a Tetanus Vaccine and Penicillin before you go!”
The students put up a good fight despite it being their first Actual combat.
The Evidence was that most Parties returned having caught their share of Demonic Beasts.
However, no one returned without a scratch.
Minor scratches and cuts were the baseline.
The Severely Injured carried in on Stretchers were also seen here and there.
It couldn’t be helped since it was their first Actual combat.
The Academy and The Military had already guessed it would turn out this way.
And Erika and the Valkyries were no Exception to this situation.
”Unnie, I’m sorry. It’s my Fault for noticing it late.”
”It’s fine. This is originally the Vanguard’s share of the work.”
Under the Green Flag.
Freya offered an Apology to Erika.
Erika waved her hand at Freya.
”And you were careful enough. Who would have known that an alligator chopped in half could attack like that.”
”But......”
”I said it’s fine.”
Erika was sitting on a mat, holding out her right arm.
Senior Jenny was currently applying a splint and wrapping a Bandage around that arm.
It was a Wound caused by an alligator they met in the swamp.
The moment they were certain they had won after chopping its Torso in half.
The Lower body of the alligator, which they thought was dead, swung its tail aiming for Freya.
Erika belatedly blocked its path, but because she blocked it in a hurry, she ended up giving up her right arm.
”U-Um, Senior Jenny. Is it perhaps broken?”
”No. After checking it, it’s just a cracked bone. Junior Erika. Don’t move. I’m wrapping it.”
”I didn’t move though.”
”You just twisted your Body to look over there.”
Jenny pointed toward the Green Flag with her chin.
There, Kal was standing up with a Bandage wrapped around his leg.
And a student from the Department of Healing Arts was blocking his path with open arms.
”I just covered the Wound on your leg with Minor Heal, but it’s not a Complete Cure! The treatment today was strictly First Aid! Yet where are you trying to go right now!”
”I am going to train. Shouldn’t I Review today’s combat with the Demonic Beasts before I forget it.”
”Did you even listen properly to what I said? I said your Wound will open up! Stop talking Nonsense and lie down on the bed right now. What are you going to do if the Wound opens up? Do you think a Healing Center is a place where you can resurrect if you die?”
At that, Kal looked at the Healer as if he were a strange person.
”Of course a dead person cannot resurrect. What do you take me for.”
”Then why are you so anxious to die?”
”You have a Misunderstanding. I am doing this because I know the line where I won’t die.”
”......What on earth is a Wound that Kal considers fatal?”
”Isn’t it fine as long as it’s just a Hole in the Lungs?”
”......”
Grind.
It was the sound coming from the mouth of the Healer who was disinfecting Kal’s Wound.
That conversation also flowed into the ears of Cardinal Wendras, who was in the middle of commanding the scene.
At this, the Cardinal fumbled with a medical Saw and muttered.
”......I am debating whether Amputating his leg right now would be the path for that student’s health.”
Jenny, who was wrapping Erika’s Bandage, also quietly nodded in agreement.
She naturally knew it was a joke.
But she couldn’t erase the thought that it might actually be a necessary Prescription for Kal.
*
”Erika, sorry.”
Around the time the splint was fully wrapped.
Jenny sprang up from her seat, saying the First Aid was finished.
”A student who is more desperate for Divine Power than you, Junior, might come in. After treating The Severely Injured and going through the emergency order, if I have any Divine Power left, I’ll cast it on you then.”
”I know.”
Erika lightly waved her uninjured left hand.
Erika knew very well too.
The mission of a Healer assigned to a Hero Party is not the Complete Cure of Party Members.
It was to perform the minimum First Aid so the Party wouldn’t die on the Scene and to keep them alive until they reached the Base Camp.
”A cracked bone will heal after drinking Milk and sleeping for a day. There’s nothing to be sorry about, Senior.”
”Thanks for saying that. I’ll be back soon.”
Jenny waved her hand and ran towards the Red Flag.
Her white clothes disappeared among The Injured.
After sending her off.
The Valkyries moved to the Hospital Room.
Inside the Hospital Room consisting of a Tent and cots.
Erika lay on the bed, taking out preserved rations from her Bag and started eating.
Freya sat on the edge of it and began disassembling her rifle, while Charlotte sat at the foot of the bed and wrote something down in her Notebook.
Before they knew it, Time passed and the moon rose high in the sky.
The smell of disinfectant and the smoke from cooking Dinner spread through the Temporary Station.
Erika raised her splinted right arm before her eyes.
Looking at the Bandage, today’s events flashed through her mind.
The Jaguar Demonic Beast hiding its Body in the darkness, the alligator Demonic Beast hiding in the swamp, the snake Demonic Beast hiding its Body between the bushes.
Honestly speaking, they were all Demonic Beasts worth fighting.
What was scary was only the first few minutes.
After that, it wasn’t much different from catching Black Sorcerers.
Rather, Demonic Beasts were honest.
Because they rarely showed patterns other than their known habits.
Therefore, Erika couldn’t understand.
”I heard it was so desperate that they had to build walls, but it doesn’t really seem like that.”
Erika’s gaze headed toward the walls of Kandiba County beyond the Demonic Realm.
Humanity chose to lock themselves behind walls to survive against the Demonic Beasts.
But the Demonic Beasts they actually encountered were far from the word despair.
Because of that, Erika inadvertently muttered such a soliloquy.
The one who answered that soliloquy was Lady Keres.
”That’s a good Question, Lady Erika.”
The Duke’s Daughter, who was leaning her back against the Tent pole, opened her mouth.
”Lady. Were the Demonic Beasts you faced today manageable?”
”Yes. There were some variables, but apart from making a mistake, they didn’t feel that scary.”
Erika waved her bandaged hand.
Lady Keres nodded.
”Right. Then assuming you didn’t make a mistake today, could you fight the exact same ones tomorrow?”
”Yes. There’s no reason I couldn’t.”
”Then could you continue doing that for 1 year, without resting for a single day? Without making a mistake during that Time?”
”That sounds a bit difficult?”
Erika didn’t overconfidently trust her own abilities.
She could avoid making a mistake for a day.
She was confident she wouldn’t make a mistake for a week either.
But not making a mistake for 1 year was impossible.
As long as one was human, mistakes were bound to happen.
The Duke’s Daughter nodded.
”Then assuming those mistakes accumulate, could you fight for 20 years without making a mistake?”
”That’s impossible. Does a person capable of such a thing even exist in the world in the first place?”
”Right. That is the problem.”
Lady Keres pointed at Erika’s right arm.
”As you confirmed today, Lady, Demonic Beasts are not despairingly strong. They are annoying and cowardly, but if you prepare enough, you can defeat a Demonic Beast of the same Rank several times a day.”
As she spoke, the Duke’s Daughter’s gaze headed beyond the bulkhead.
Beast howls could be heard from the darkness-draped forest.
Even though the students had subjugated so many, Demonic Beasts were still openly strutting around in the Demonic Realm.
”The problem is that combat doesn’t end with just one time. As battles repeat, fatigue accumulates, and injuries pile up. In a week, your leeway disappears. And what comes to the place where leeway has disappeared?”
”A fatal mistake would come.”
”Right. That is how a Superhuman dies so in vain.”
The Duke’s Daughter spoke calmly.
”And this is where the real problem lies. 20 years. That is the Time it takes for a Superhuman to grow up to replace a dead Superhuman. On the other hand, do you know how many years it takes for a Demonic Beast of the same Rank as that Superhuman to grow?”
”10 years?”
”It’s 2 years.”
”......”
Erika closed her mouth.
It was because the speed at which Demonic Beasts grew exceeded imagination.
Even she, who was not friendly with Calculations, could realize how unreasonable of a difference that was.
The Duke’s Daughter pointed at the bulkhead Stakes surrounding the Demonic Realm with her chin.
”That is why. Humanity cannot make mistakes. So we had no choice but to build walls and take a defensive Stance.”
20 years and 2 years.
The exchange ratio between Humanity and Demonic Beasts was this desperate.
That is why Humanity built walls.
To not make a mistake.
To delay destruction even if they made a mistake.
Even having gone that far, Humanity’s Frontline was always precarious.
”A single mistake by a Superhuman makes the lives of hundreds of soldiers disappear. If those mistakes accumulate, an entire Territory disappears, and more resources are poured in to Recapture that Territory.”
”Ah......”
Erika sighed.
It was because she realized she had made a slip of the tongue.
”I apologize, Duke’s Daughter. I didn’t even know that and......”
”No. That is also a thing of the past now, isn’t it.”
However, Lady Keres didn’t seem offended at all.
”Haven’t the Healing Arts developed enough now to Handle all the mistakes of Superhumans and soldiers.”
The Duke’s Daughter pointed at Erika’s arm.
Erika also realized its meaning and nodded.
”It’s thanks to Teacher.”
”Right. Thanks to Lord Saint, Humanity has now gained the Sustainment to engage in a War of Attrition against the Demonic Beasts Outside the Wall.”
”That’s a good Lecture. May I listen in as well?”
At that moment, a new Voice interrupted the conversation.
As soon as they heard that Voice, The Injured tried to raise their bodies in unison.
”We greet Your Excellency!”
It was Imperial Prince Edmund.
Edmund gestured towards the crowd with a Bitter smile.
”Stay lying down. Since when does a Patient have to stand up.”
He dragged an empty cot chair over and sat on it.
The Adjutant naturally took a seat next to Edmund.
Edmund spoke towards the Valkyries, who were restless.
”I only came to praise the Party that produced the most remarkable results in this Preliminary Evaluation, but it seems you were just having a conversation I couldn’t pass by as an officer.”
A smile lingered on Edmund’s lips.
”Duke’s Daughter. May I take over that Lecture?”
”Of course, Your Highness.”
”I told you to call me Your Excellency when addressing me as a Soldier.”
”I am not a Soldier right now, Your Highness.”
”Ah, that’s right.”
Edmund raised both his hands, saying he was at Fault.
”Then thanks to the Duke’s Daughter’s Consideration, I shall take over the Lecture. How far along was the conversation?”
”We were talking about how Humanity gained the Sustainment to fight Outside the Wall against Demonic Beasts thanks to Lord Saint.”
”Right. Then it’s Time to tell you why that Sustainment is important.”
An unexpected history Lecture on Humanity and Demonic Beasts opened in the Hospital Room.
It was a situation that the Valkyries, who had just crawled out of the Demonic Realm, might have been sick of.
But no one showed any signs of dislike.
The reason was one thing.
Because they heard it was related to Yulian.
— ’Not that I’ll understand even if I listen...... Well, stories about how great Teacher is are always fun to listen to.’
— ’Older Brother’s Great Performance. I definitely need to listen closely and Record it.’
— ’I already know his greatness, but it wouldn’t hurt to listen.’
— ’Even I don’t fully understand just how great my Benefactor is. It would be good to find out on this Opportunity.’
With sparkling eyes, all of the Valkyries waited for Edmund’s Lecture.
Edmund smiled with Satisfaction upon confirming their gazes.
’As expected, they say you can recognize a promising tree from its cotyledon. Even after hearing they had the most outstanding results, far from being conceited, they are trying to show Perseverance.’
They must be tired right after coming out of the Demonic Realm.
Yet, seeing the Valkyries show such enthusiasm, the Imperial Prince opened his mouth, thinking he should add some Vouchers for them.
”Now, then, a Question before the Lecture. What entity kills more soldiers and knights than Demonic Beasts in a war?”
The first to raise her hand was Erika.
She instinctively raised her right hand, belatedly remembered that the Part was broken, and groaned.
”Me! Ouch! Sss......”
”Speak, Cadet Erika.”
”It’s food!”
At that sight, the Imperial Prince barely held back his laughter and shook his head.
”You’re talking about Supply. Of course, it’s important. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say Supply determines the victory or defeat of a war. But that’s only about 3rd in priority.”
At this, Freya cautiously offered the next answer.
”Then is it the military’s morale?”
”Why did you think so?”
”I thought people gained Hope thanks to Older Brother, which increased the Survival rate.”
”Hmm. Such mental elements are certainly important on the battlefield, but they are not enough to greatly sway the Death rate.”
Freya’s answer was also an Incorrect answer.
At the consecutive incorrect answers, Erika and Freya rested their chins on their hands and began to ponder.
Charlotte, who was quietly watching this, raised her hand and spoke the Correct Answer.
”It is an Epidemic. Historically, an Epidemic has always been a headache for the military.”
”Oh, you are well-informed, Young Lady Hausen.”
Edmund declared Charlotte’s Correct Answer.
”Right, that is exactly it. The current Generation of heroes was born and raised in an environment where Vaccines and IV Fluids are taken for granted. So the terror of Epidemics won’t really hit home.”
Except for Charlotte, the Valkyries nodded.
To them, an Epidemic was not an entity that felt more threatening than Demonic Beasts.
Since they were 13 years old, Vaccines and IV Fluids had established themselves in the Healing Arts.
Because from then on, stories of an Army being wiped out due to an Epidemic were rarely heard.
Only Lady Keres, who was from the Eastern Region and had suffered from Scurvy, could vaguely guess the Threat of an Epidemic.
Edmund was slightly envious of them.
”What a truly blessed Generation. To think there’s a Generation that overlooks the dangers of an Epidemic. Ah, I don’t mean to say you are being complacent. It is a fact that there’s no need to worry about it anymore.”
Recalling the memories of his active duty days, Edmund continued his explanation.
”Shall I give you an example. Do you know how dangerous Dysentery is?”
”Isn’t it a disease where you suffer from Diarrhea?”
Erika recalled her Limbus Pit days.
Residents who drank contaminated Well water occasionally suffered from Dysentery. She was one of them too.
But this was far from the answer Edmund wanted.
”The expression ’suffer’ is insufficient. Diarrhea caused by Dysentery is more than enough to kill a person.”
”People die from Diarrhea?”
It was hard for Erika to imagine.
While working at Yulian’s Clinic, she had seen countless Diarrhea patients.
But among them, she had almost never seen anyone die from Diarrhea.
”Is Diarrhea that dangerous of a Symptom?”
”30% of soldiers died of Dehydration before they even reached the battlefield.”
It was IV Fluids and Vaccines that changed the tide of such battlefields.
”After IV Fluids and Vaccines were created, the Death rate of soldiers who caught Dysentery decreased drastically. Of course, that’s not all.”
Edmund folded his fingers one by one.
”Germ theory, Rax, Tetanus, Antibiotics. As these things were introduced one after another, it has now become rare to find an Army wiped out by an Epidemic.”
Edmund chuckled.
In the past, The Military didn’t care about troop losses due to Epidemics.
It wasn’t that they didn’t recognize the problem.
They simply resigned themselves to unavoidable variables.
But it was different now.
They figured out all the causes of catching diseases, and the methods to counter them were also revealed.
Now, an Epidemic in the Army was no longer like an unavoidable disaster.
”It’s quite a funny thing. Just 5 years ago, we prayed our Army wouldn’t catch a disease until they reached the battlefield, but now, if even 50 Epidemic patients emerge in the Army, we call that officer to a Court-martial.”
In fact, such a trial was recently held.
It was an Incident where 30 Dysentery patients emerged among the soldiers.
In the past, it would have been considered an unavoidable event, something attributed to a Plague Caster’s Curse.
But now, The Military’s Stance towards Epidemics had changed.
— How did you secure the water source to cause this mess?
— You placed the latrine next to the water drums? Are you truly insane?
— To think you caused this situation by still not updating your old Doctrine......
— Do you think that serves as an excuse, General?
To them, such Incidents had become a ’man-made disaster that could have been sufficiently Prevented and should have been careful about’.
”Like this, the instances of soldiers and knights dying before they even fought decreased. Do you know how much the Death rate Improved through this?”
At Edmund’s Question, silence fell among the Valkyries.
They certainly knew the Survival rate had greatly Improved.
But they didn’t know exactly to what level it was. Even Charlotte.
Taking that silence as an answer, Edmund opened his mouth.
”I’ll give you a hint. It’s 50%. Before Lord Yulian began his activities in earnest, the Death rate of soldiers who went to the battlefield was that. To what level do you think this Death rate would have decreased?”
”......Is it about 20%?”
Freya cautiously answered.
Since it was still war, she assumed the Death rate would be 20%.
But Edmund shook his head.
”It’s 5%.”
”Yes?”
”We are now in an Era where 5% of those who go to the battlefield die, and 95% return.”
”But it’s war?”
”Even though it’s war.”
Edmund also let out a chuckle as if he found it absurd.
”Not only the Techniques to treat the aforementioned diseases but also the Techniques to deal with Trauma have developed.”
Blood transfusions, Morphine, and even the Sorting Method called Emergency Triage.
All those elements combined drastically reduced the Death rate.
”The fact that a Healer is now assigned to each of your Hero Parties is also a method that didn’t exist in the past.”
In the past, there was no Position called a Healer in a Hero Party.
They were solely composed of attackers.
At that explanation, Erika spoke in an unbelievable tone.
”Yes? Then where did the injured get treated?”
”If they got hurt on the Scene, they were left alone until the battle ended. Only if they were still breathing and there was Hope after it ended, were they brought to the castle.”
”......What about the method of rescuing them on the Scene and bringing them to a Tent like now?”
”When there was no portable Catalyst, what kind of treatment could a Healer possibly do in a Tent like this?”
”Ah.”
Since Erika was a Mage in her own right, she could understand it at once.
Healers of the past could only barely use Miracles in a room where Holy Water flowed, under a giant stone statue.
There was no way they could use Divine Magic in a Tent like this in such an Era.
Because to use it, they would have had to move that heavy stone statue whole, dig a Groove in the floor to let Holy Water flow, and prepare a pure white room without a speck of dust.
Literally, it would have been a massive construction project of moving an entire Infirmary, which was realistically impossible.
”So in the past, Healers always had to wait until patients came to the Healing Center built Inside the Wall.”
But that too was now a thing of the past.
”The Healer who followed you around also carried a Bag, right? Thanks to the Catalyst in that Bag, Emergency Treatment on the Scene has now become possible.”
The Imperial Prince’s gaze headed to another Tent.
In that Tent, Jenny was busy casting Divine Magic on the patients.
”Furthermore, since Rax was created, it became possible to do simple Disinfection of the surroundings with it.”
”Hearing that, in our Eastern Region, they’ve started deploying Healers on ships as well. I heard they can use Heal inside a cleanly maintained cabin.”
Edmund nodded.
”These Miracles gathered to make the Death rate 5 percent.”
Charlotte, who had been quiet for a while, nodded.
”Even simply calculating, our forces have been preserved by about double.”
A war where 50 out of 100 people survived in the past now resulted in 95 people surviving.
Even a rough Calculation meant their forces had doubled.
”Right. But even that is a story of when war only happens once. If 5 wars occur, 25 times the number of people survive. Then if 10 wars occur, how many people would survive?”
On top of this, it wasn’t just the soldiers’ Survival rate that Improved.
As the Civilian Death rate decreased, production increased, which directly led to Supply.
It was an Effect that couldn’t be calculated simply by combat power alone.
”This is also the reason why The Military changed its policy recently. In the past, if one Superhuman died, it was a 20-year loss. So sending cadets like you to Actual combat was a Luxury. You were raised carefully in a Greenhouse, and only brought out to be used after you were fully grown.”
The Imperial Prince looked around at the students.
”But now, the probability of dying has decreased greatly.”
A 50% Death rate had been reduced to 5%.
From The Military’s perspective, there was no reason not to switch to an offensive.
”The military now plans to aggressively go on the offensive. This Practical Training is the first step. Rather than fearing the Death of hero candidates, we want to raise stronger Superhumans through more Actual combat, faster.”
Saying so, the Imperial Prince pointed to the very back car of the train.
To the train car Yulian had modified into an Operating room.
*
Soldiers carrying a third-year student from the Hero Department on a Stretcher urgently rushed into the Tent.
”We have successfully rescued the missing student!”
A student from the Department of Healing Arts who was running alongside the Stretcher belatedly entered the Tent.
That student poured out a Report towards Cardinal Wendras.
”It’s a third-year Male Patient from the Hero Department! Bites from a ’Yakumama’, two Penetrating Wounds confirmed on the right shoulder, and Axillary Artery damage is suspected. There was massive Bleeding upon arrival at the Scene, and Pressure Hemostasis was performed. Currently, the right Radial Artery pulse is unpalpable, and the hand has Pallor and feels cold. Blood pressure is 82 over 48, pulse is 132, and Consciousness is clear.”
The Cardinal lifted the patient’s right hand and pressed on a Fingernail once.
The blood color did not return to the pressed white spot.
The Cardinal’s expression darkened as well.
”......This is a Black according to the Triage Classification.”
Black.
Black Flag.
A patient who must be given up on.
Because the Treatment would take too many resources and Time, trying to save him would result in losing several others.
But the Cardinal did not classify this student as a Black Flag.
Instead, he turned his Body toward Car 20 where Yulian would be.
”However, Triage judgment standards change depending on the resources at the Scene. I shall ask Lord Saint.”
He raised his Voice toward the Entrance of Car 20.
”Lord Saint! Suspected Axillary Artery damage, Distal Pulselessness patient! I ask for the classification!”
The door to Car 20 opened, and Yulian, dressed in Scrubs, appeared at the Entrance.
He was on his way out after just finishing Surgery on a student whose leg had suffered a Death Roll from an alligator.
Yulian headed toward the student on the Stretcher.
On the student’s right shoulder, where the outer clothing was cut away, two large holes were pierced.
The compression Bandage wrapped around those holes was already soaked dark red.
Yulian, who stared at the Wound for a while, spoke from behind the Crow Mask.
”I do not know the Demonic Beast called Yakumama well, but has the Toxicity of that Demonic Beast been confirmed?”
”A Yakumama is a non-venomous Demonic Beast. However, a foreign object presumed to be a broken tooth was felt inside the Wound. The tooth is adjacent to the Brachial Plexus, so Surgical Removal on the Scene was impossible. Also, because the surrounding environment was dirty during the rescue, the patient has a high risk of Tetanus.”
”It is fortunate that there is no Toxicity. If it’s to that extent, Reconstructive surgery on the blood vessel after Surgical Removal will be sufficient.”
”Will it not take a long time?”
”30 minutes is enough. Please classify all such patients as Red.”
Like that, the student on the Stretcher disappeared into the interior of Car 20.
The door closed, and two Instructors clicked their tongues while looking at that Car 20.
”About that student. Not only are they the same Rank 2, but the weapon Matchup Compatibility is bad, yet he aimed for a Yakumama with a one-handed sword?”
”He’s crazy. He charged at a Yakumama with a one-handed sword? Where did he leave his pike to use?”
”I instructed them not to let their guard down just because it’s Actual combat, and to Retreat if it gets dangerous. Since he’s a third year, he must have thought he was a big deal.”
A third Instructor approached and joined the conversation.
”There are 600 students in total. Didn’t we Prediction that one or two guys like that would appear.”
”Still, it’s Lord Saint. A Wound of that level will be more than enough for him to cure. It is reassuring.”
”......Reassuring, you say.”
The Instructor who first clicked his tongue gave a Bitter smile.
”In the past, he would have been an injured person we abandoned in the forest. Now we sit here saying ’he’s more than enough to cure’ for that. Has something gone wrong with our heads too?”
A dry laugh passed among the Instructors.
And the Valkyries and Edmund were listening to that conversation.
Edmund spoke towards the Valkyries.
”You understand seeing this, right? Why The Military has gone on the offensive?”
Humanity built walls because the risk of losing a Superhuman was too great.
Because the period it takes to create a Superhuman is slower than the speed at which Demonic Beasts multiply.
But if the risk of losing a Superhuman didn’t even reach 1%, the story changed.
”As instances of soldiers dying in vain due to disease disappeared, the burden on Superhumans was lessened. The instances of making mistakes decreased, but even if they make a mistake, as long as they are still breathing, there is someone to treat them.”
A Lung was pierced?
There is someone to save them.
Turned into a Whole Roast by Lightning?
That can be treated too.
Throat torn out by teeth?
As long as they arrive before the Saint, it will work out somehow.
”Do you understand now? How important of an entity Yulian is to the Empire?”
As he said that, Edmund recalled the events of last night.
The Black Sorcerers who targeted the train Yulian was on.
To them, Yulian was a sworn enemy under the same sky who kept making their Standing precarious.
That’s why they sent an Executive who, even if not an Elder level, was somewhat high-ranking.
But in Edmund’s eyes, the Black Sorcerers were underestimating Yulian’s value.
”The conversation has reached this point. Anyway, what I want to say to you all is this. The Era is changing now.”
”I understand completely!”
Freya said with her eyes sparkling.
”I finally understand what Older Brother used to say every mealtime now.”
”What did Lord Yulian say?”
”Yes. He said that someday, Healers who perform great actions like Older Brother will appear at the Meyer Infirmary, and he was looking forward to that day.”
At this, Edmund instinctively waved his hand.
Cardinal Wendras, who was catching his breath while eavesdropping on the conversation, also frantically shook his head.
They could copy one Surgery.
If they dig into that one Surgery for a few years, they might even do it better than Yulian.
But that was it.
Performing all kinds of surgeries at Yulian’s level was a forever impossible Accomplishment for Healers.
This was well known even to Edmund, who was not a Healer.
”No, I don’t want to deny Lord Yulian’s dream, but such a day will never come.”
”Yes?”
Just then, the door to Car 20 opened and Yulian walked out.
”20 minutes. Reconstructive surgery on the blood vessel is finished.”
The Imperial Prince pointed at that Yulian and spoke.
”I don’t know much about the Healing Arts, but I don’t think a Healer possessing knowledge encompassing all 12 Sects could ever exist in the future.”
”But isn’t it possible for Older Brother?”
”That is why he is a Saint.”
At Edmund’s words, Cardinal Wendras nodded fiercely.
