Rebirth before Apocalypse: My Whole Family are Bigshots!

”Zombies are really not human!”

The person watching the monitors cursed and turned his head away, not looking at Captain Zhu eating anymore.

Occasionally, passing researchers would catch a glimpse of Captain Zhu gnawing on what was once their ”colleague’s” head.

Even though they’ve seen the bloody scenes of zombies eating many times, seeing Captain Zhu expressionlessly gnawing on a colleague’s head with a human face still sent shivers down their spines.

They were researchers, and several of them were not even Superpower Users, so their fear of zombies was at the extreme.

Seeing Captain Zhu eat, they felt both scared and nauseated.

They could only curse quietly and quickly leave the area.

The cursing didn’t affect Captain Zhu at all; even if he heard it, he didn’t stop chewing.

He was the Zombie King, and although he was once a righteous man desperately trying to protect ordinary people, his mindset had drastically changed now.

His only thought now was to find Xiao Song Zombie.

Aside from that, he wanted to achieve true peace in his own way.

The peace he now envisioned was no longer about exterminating zombies so that human survivors could live safely.

It was more like the idea of Zombie King Li Mucheng.

Breeding humans to survive, achieving a balance between humans and zombies, might not be so bad after all.

The incident at the underground research lab didn’t affect other places.

Except for the zombies’ wailing and sudden madness that scared the human survivors, the radio urging people to willingly become zombies and go to the zombies’ Joy Valley went silent for a day.

A day later, the broadcast on that frequency became lively again.

”Do you want to no longer live in fear of being eaten by zombies? Do you want to be eternally happy? Do you want to become the Zombie King who can command millions of zombies with a flick of your fingers?”

”As long as you willingly become a zombie, you no longer have to worry about being completely devoured by zombies; you will become an existence at the top of the food chain! The higher the superpower, the greater the chance of turning into a High Rank Zombie. What are you waiting for?”

”We have a new Emperor, and the Emperor will lead us to flatten the human safety bases, letting us grow under the sun and become the new overlords of Earth!”

...

The voice of the Zombie King on the radio grew increasingly excited, and Bai Yifan could almost feel the zombie king’s exaggerated speech spitting through the radio.

”Sis, who do you think this Emperor he mentioned is? Could it be Brother Zhang? Which Brother Zhang is it? The one from before or the one now?”

Bai Yifan turned the radio volume down a bit, and his expression wasn’t particularly scared.

He was now considered someone with backing.

Having traveled back with Zombie Emperor Zhang Yiming, he felt he had connections, and having the Zombie Emperor as backing made Bai Yifan feel that zombies weren’t that scary after all.

Still, when he saw zombies, Bai Yifan would instinctively tremble a little.

”I don’t know.”

Bai Xiqin shook her head, her brows furrowed.

She kept feeling that the wailing of zombies last night was concerning.

Listening to it made her feel very uncomfortable, and hearing the sound gave Bai Xiqin a feeling as if she had lost a long-time dear friend.

It felt empty, yet she didn’t know why.

”Oh, so are we leaving the safety base today?”

Bai Yifan patted his already-prepared skateboard, a small smile on his face.

He was still the same youngster, unchanged even a bit.

At the age of sixteen, he was always very lively and energetic, and just not leaving the safety base for two days made Bai Yifan feel like he was rusting.

”Let’s go! Take a trip outside.”

Leng Yebai, who hadn’t spoken a word, suddenly said.

Bai Xiqin thought that Leng Yebai was still feeling down because of the Base Commander’s affairs, so without much thought, she packed up, carried a small backpack, and went out together.

The backpack contained some bread and Spiritual Spring Water.

Leng Yebai rode a bicycle with Bai Xiqin, and Bai Yifan held onto the bicycle, sliding along.

Today’s exit was smooth, with the gate being empty, and very few survivors went out to gather supplies.

Yesterday, the zombies’ eerie wailing and sudden excitement in feeding frenzy left many survivors unable to return to the safety base forever.

People in Yunhua Safety Base weren’t short of Crystal Cores, so many chose to remain in the safety base to absorb Crystal Cores and enhance their superpowers.

”That vehicle...”

Just out of the safety base, Bai Yifan immediately noticed a bus.

The exterior of the bus looked very much like their blue-and-white bus at home.

Through the bus window, Bai Yifan saw Fan Tangtang’s dad, Fan Liping.

Fan Liping opened the bus window and stared intently at the gate of the Yunhua Safety Base.

Seeing Bai Xiqin and the others coming out from the safety base, Fan Liping immediately excitedly waved at them.

This drew the Gatekeeper’s attention towards the bus.

In the apocalypse, many chose not to live in safety bases, and there were many who lived in their cars.

This bus had been parked at the safety base gate since early morning, and the middle-aged man kept the windows open, just watching the gate without entering.

This made the Gatekeeper think he was a zombie spy, wanting to attack the safety base!

But seeing Leng Yebai riding over on his bike, they quickly felt at ease.

Realizing it was the Base Commander’s son’s friend, they were sure there was no issue; the Base Commander’s son’s friend certainly couldn’t be a zombie spy!

Leng Yebai, expressionless, rode his bike towards the bus.

”Uncle Fan, what brings you here?”

Bai Xiqin lowered her voice to speak to Fan Liping, glancing around.

There were no Superpower Users going out, only the Gatekeeper occasionally glancing their way.

”Xiao Ming’s situation isn’t well now, you all...”

Fan Liping glanced at Leng Yebai, hesitating to speak.

As outsiders, the Fan Liping couple knew that Bai Xiqin was very important in Zhang Yiming’s mind.

Zhang Yiming’s condition was bad now, and if Bai Xiqin went, it would definitely improve.

But...they were unsure if Leng Yebai would overthink it.

They couldn’t care about that now. Since yesterday, Zhang Yiming began to act strangely.

Mainly in Zhang Yiming’s brainwave fluctuations and aura.

The aura he emitted made Fan Tangtang and other zombies faint several times; even now, Fan Tangtang was shivering under the blankets, afraid to come out.

She didn’t dare say a word.

This was caused by extreme fear.

Zhang Yiming was usually very strict with Fan Tangtang, but he wouldn’t have made her this scared.

Zhang Yiming seemed like he suddenly changed inside, his hostility everywhere.

The Fan Liping couple, being human, were not affected by Zhang Yiming’s brainwaves, so they came to seek help from Bai Xiqin.

Maybe only if Bai Xiqin went would Xiao Ming’s emotions stabilize.

”Let’s go see.”

Leng Yebai’s face showed no particular expression, and he subtly nodded.

”Okay, I’ll lead the way in front, you all follow.”

Fan Liping looked at the decay inside the bus and didn’t let Bai Xiqin and the others board, but drove ahead for them to follow.

”Do you know something?” Bai Xiqin asked Leng Yebai.

Otherwise, why suddenly suggest going for a walk? Without even asking what happened to Zhang Yiming, just suggesting to go over and check.

Besides Leng Yebai and Zhang Yiming having some situation, Bai Xiqin thought Leng Yebai must know what was going on.

”I don’t know yet, just a feeling.” Leng Yebai shook his head slightly, and a flicker went unnoticed in his eyes where Bai Xiqin couldn’t see.

”Alright then!”

Bai Xiqin blinked.

Seems like there’s indeed a situation between Leng Yebai and Zhang Yiming.
