Rebirth before Apocalypse: My Whole Family are Bigshots!

”Is it Kerou who’s causing trouble again?” Song Hongfei rubbed his temples, a hint of fatigue gracing his face. ”If the trouble she causes is too serious, Base Commander can handle it as they see fit—we won’t have any objections.”

The Song Family has truly done their utmost for Song Kerou.

Even though she is an adopted child, she was never treated harshly; her food, clothing, and daily needs were no different from Song Wenwen’s.

But she, repeatedly stirred trouble, played games.

Even the most patient of people would have their patience worn out.

”I’m talking about someone else, Song Wenwen. Do you... want to see her?”

Base Commander looked at the computer, his face devoid of any expression.

Song Hongfei suddenly raised his head to look at Base Commander, unable to discern the thoughts of the Base Commander.

”Base Commander, don’t you know? Wenwen is already... dead, with no remains left.”

A touch of bitterness appeared on Song Hongfei’s face, suddenly aging him by several years.

The little princess cherished by the Song Family for over twenty years had died like that, leaving not a trace of remembrance for the Song Family, which was a significant blow.

Base Commander lightly tapped the keyboard, seeming slightly absentminded as he asked, ”If she became a zombie, could you accept it?”

Song Hongfei didn’t understand why Base Commander asked such a question.

Because they firmly believed that Song Wenwen hadn’t even had the chance to become a zombie—she was directly torn and devoured by a horde of zombies, leaving not a single shred of flesh.

No one can survive being eaten by zombies, nor is there a chance to become one of them.

”Don’t laugh at me, Base Commander; her mother and I have countless times thought about this—if she had become a zombie it would be better, even if she were a mindless creature, it would still count as a different form of ’living’.”

Song Hongfei looked blankly outside the window, from here you could see the peaceful scene inside the base.

No zombies, no zombie animals.

No matter how anti-social he may be, he wishes to endure great pressure, and be an enemy to everyone, just to care for his daughter who’s turned into a zombie.

If only she had become a zombie.

This sentence contained too much helplessness.

Base Commander’s fingers tapping on the keyboard paused slightly.

”Why is Base Commander asking so much today?” Song Hongfei still didn’t understand why Base Commander was asking about Song Wenwen.

When Song Wenwen died, not many people knew, but Base Commander did know, and at that time he was in low spirits and hadn’t completed the tasks given by Base Commander.

”No reason, just speaking from the heart.” Base Commander pointed at the note Song Hongfei held and said, ”These people absorbed the Crystal Cores from Superpower Users’ brains, and rapidly enhanced their skills.”

He didn’t know whether telling Song Hongfei this information was helping him or hurting him.

Could he truly accept that his delicate daughter had become a zombie with decaying flesh?

Even with the knowledge, Song Hongfei has no means to keep his daughter by his side, and instead would fall into an endless abyss.

Song Wenwen has no consciousness of her own and cannot control her actions. Being a zombie means she must devour flesh.

It’s better for Song Wenwen to be outside, following the zombie believed to be the Zombie King... at least the Song Family won’t see her devouring flesh, nor will she starve.

Sometimes, encounters between people are not just based on communication between them.

One day, they will meet.

But this kind of meeting is also a sad one.

The best outcome would be if Song Wenwen gained her own consciousness, restored her human memories, and became the Zombie King.

In that case, it would be considered a form of solace.

But, creating the Zombie King from someone deceased—is it possible?

How does the Zombie King restrain itself from the urge of devouring flesh, looking just like a human.

A trace of loneliness flashed in Base Commander’s eyes.

If possible, he truly wanted to see Hua one more time—not just seeing her lying in the Ice Coffin, but seeing her smile once more, hearing her voice again.

The apocalypse can turn the dead into zombies, transforming them into Superpower Users with strong brainwaves. If possible, Base Commander would trade everything, just to bring her back to life.

Back to being truly alive, not just a walking corpse.

Before the apocalypse, many wealthy individuals spent great sums when facing impending death to be ”buried” in liquid nitrogen, hoping to be revived when technology advanced.

And this apocalypse, isn’t it also an opportunity?

But, is this version of living the one they hoped for, and does it count as truly living at all?

”Base Commander? Is there something you haven’t said?”

For the first time, Song Hongfei saw this expression on Base Commander’s face.

This emotion, usually belonging to ordinary people, unexpectedly appeared on the face of the Base Commander.

Unbelievable.

Instinctively, Song Hongfei and everyone in the base thought that Base Commander was almighty.

His superpower is formidable, and in the apocalypse, he should have no concerns.

”Nothing.”

Base Commander waved his hand, the lonely expression on his face fading somewhat, though still carrying a hint of sorrow.

Song Hongfei glanced at the note in his hand, still unable to come to terms with it.

The note listed Superpower Users regarded as talented within the base, once considered the hope for humanity.

Yet, they...

Thinking about it made Song Hongfei’s scalp tingle.

If other Superpower Users found out, who knows how many would wish to replicate their success by crazily increasing their superpowers.

For the base, it wouldn’t be a good thing.

”What does Base Commander plan to do?” Song Hongfei felt somewhat at a loss regarding these talented Superpower Users.

”Start with those who are not famous and act low-key, have them carry out difficult tasks.”

Base Commander made it very clear.

Let them ”accidentally” die on the road.

No matter what, no secure base can accommodate Superpower Users who absorb Crystal Cores from the brains of humans.

And their actions were almost no different than murder.

Before the apocalypse, they could still sentence people to death, and after the apocalypse, Base Commander established some legal-like reward and punishment rules for managing the secure base.

But such matters can’t be handled openly, only covertly.

”Alright!”

Song Hongfei didn’t object.

Such matters should be handled this way; Superpower Users who absorb Crystal Cores from human brains cannot be allowed to remain, absolutely.

But...

”What about Feng Ge?”

Song Hongfei felt a bit regretful.

Feng Ge, as the chief captain of the base, is incredibly powerful, only in his twenties, and holds prominence in the base second only to Base Commander.

If Base Commander acts against him, it will definitely cause other Superpower Users to feel a sense of uncertainty.

The base is meant to be a place that welcomes Superpower Users, and if they openly act against Feng Ge, it will surely damage its reputation.

If Superpower Users don’t have confidence in the base, eventually it will decline and be overrun by zombies.

No matter how strong the Base Commander is, it doesn’t guarantee victory every time.

The most crucial point is that they cannot openly claim that Feng Ge absorbs Crystal Cores from human brains.

Otherwise, those with superpowers will aspire to be as powerful as Feng Ge, and then...

”Don’t worry about Feng Ge, deal with these few first.”

Base Commander pointed to a few names.

They were Superpower Users with strong powers but not outstanding compared to others.

”Okay!”

Song Hongfei nodded, stood up, and walked toward the exit.

When he reached the door, Song Hongfei paused, intending to ask something, but didn’t say a word.

He opened the door and left.
