Time Travel: The Best Doctor in Ancient Times

Chapter 567: Chapter 420: Hengtang Plum Blossom Feast

In line with his carefree attitude, Gu Changsheng’s self-healing sped up tremendously, and in no time, he had tossed those annoying matters to the back of his mind!

One should live joyfully!

Even with many displeasures, one must strive to make oneself happy!

Therefore, Gu Changsheng had Xiao Leizi add more dishes and kindly allowed the eagerly waiting Yuan Bao to join them for the meal!

With delicious food to enjoy, Yuan Bao was naturally pleased and immediately clung to the Gu Residence out of gratitude, completely forgetting about his own master!

For the dinner, Xiao Leizi prepared several tables full of savory dishes.

Around the dining table, Yue Xilou and Borjigin Nian both expressed their admiration for how Changsheng nearly strangled Sima Changhao to death!

Gu Changsheng was utterly unconcerned about this, focusing on eating and drinking as usual.

The family gathered together, all except for Little Monk Bu Jie, who Gu Changsheng excused on the grounds that the little monk was unprincipled, with his elbow turned outwards, and deserved to fast!

Thus, while feeling sympathy for the vegetarian Little Monk Bu Jie, the family ate even more merrily!

But the more Yuan Bao ate, the more he felt his own master was unjustly wronged!

His master had gone to great lengths, sparing no expense for Lady Changsheng’s sake, yet Lady Changsheng had been utterly heartless!

Was there anyone more indifferent than Lady Changsheng, who kept herself aloof from matters concerning her?

Probably not, right?

Therefore, Yuan Bao felt internally wounded!

Because of this inner pain, Yuan Bao turned his grief and anger into appetite and ate even heartier!

And after indulging at the Gu Residence, Yuan Bao was kicked several times by his master upon his return!

As Yuan Bao rubbed his kicked bottom, he firmly thought that he had seen blatant jealousy in his master’s eyes!

His master must be jealous that he got to enjoy the delicious food at the Gu Residence while he himself did not!

Yuan Bao felt guilty considering this and decided next time, next time when he freeloaded at the Gu Residence, he would definitely remember to pack some food to bring back for his master!

The incident of Sima Changhao visiting Longevity Medical Hall hardly caused any ripples and just faded away silently.

However, Gu Changsheng got news that after Sima Changhao returned to the Guesthouse, he became even more attentive to Huo Shuixian!

To this, Gu Changsheng said he would watch the drama unfold, finding it extremely enjoyable!

After all, shouldn’t one find joy amidst suffering? Have you seen a happier target than her?

And so, as the day of the Hengtang Lake flower-viewing feast arrived, unimpeded by human efforts, the day for Gu Changsheng to play the target was also upon her!

From the break of dawn, Gu Changsheng was dragged out of bed by Si Xi and Dong Lei.

”My lady, here, have some walnut crisps to tide you over, the feast starts at noon, and there is still some time to go!” Dong Lei offered a stack of walnut crisps.

Gu Changsheng took them without a word and stuffed a piece into her mouth, but upon hearing Dong Lei’s words, she sensed something was amiss!

Hastily swallowing what was in her mouth, Gu Changsheng glared and asked, ”Xiao Leizi, what is this supposed to mean?”

What was the meaning of this? Where was her breakfast?

Surely it couldn’t be that they intended to fob her off with just a plate of walnut crisps as she had thought?

”My lady, don’t move, your hair is not yet done!” Si Xi, who was busy behind her mistress, quickly cautioned.

”Stop, stop, stop! Hold on there!” Upon hearing this, Gu Changsheng quickly gestured to interrupt Si Xi and Dong Lei’s busyness, looking at them with a puzzled expression and said, ”Damn it, I’m not even fully awake yet, and you’re already hauling me up to fuss over me, but you’re not going to tell me now that you’re skimping on my breakfast, are you?”

As she spoke, Gu Changsheng pushed the plate of walnut crisps towards them, looking aggrieved and said, ”Just with this plate of walnut crisps, you want to send me off? Don’t you know I’m a foodie, my dear retainers? How could you consider skimping on my rations, isn’t that a bit too indecent?”

Upon hearing this, Si Xi and Dong Lei immediately looked embarrassed.

Who calls themselves a foodie? Only their lady, unparalleled!

”My lady, attending a banquet is not a trivial matter. Making a grand appearance requires proper attire. You wouldn’t want to become a laughing stock to visitors from the Three Kingdoms, would you?” Si Xi pleaded earnestly.

”Pffft!” Gu Changsheng snorted upon hearing this, ”Let whoever wants to laugh, laugh! Going hungry till noon, that’s something I certainly cannot do!”

She wanted to eat! And no one was to stop her!

Seeing this, Si Xi and Dong Lei both showed a look of difficulty.

After a moment of hesitation, Dong Lei nonetheless bowed his head and spoke, ”Well... my lady... if you eat breakfast, it might be inconvenient if you need to excuse yourself during the banquet...”

Hearing this, Gu Changsheng gave a sidelong glance to the awkward-looking Dong Lei and declared confidently, ”Heavenly Father may control many things but not my bowel movements! The cycle of the five grains, that is the way of the Heavenly Dao! Whoever tries to control me, I’ll take them on!”

Saying this, Gu Changsheng disdainfully waved at them, ”Get out, get out, let those who cook do the cooking and those who prepare do the preparing. Let me have some peace! Call me when it’s time to eat! I’ll put on makeup and do my hair after I’ve eaten!”

Si Xi and Dong Lei, hearing this, their faces flashed with a hint of helplessness.

Alright then, if their lady was not cooperative, they couldn’t force her, could they?

Let’s go, let’s prepare breakfast for our lady!

It wasn’t until Si Xi and Dong Lei had left that Gu Changsheng, propping open her eyes, leaned towards the copper mirror, muttered to herself, ”Left eye twitching means disaster, right eye means wealth, right? Is it my left eye that’s twitching?”

Seeing his left eyelid twitch incessantly in the bronze mirror, Gu Changsheng felt speechless for a while. ”Could it be that I remembered it wrong? Is it actually the left eye for wealth and the right eye for disaster?”

The next instant, Gu Changsheng’s right eyelid started to twitch!

”Damn it! Are you kidding me?” Gu Changsheng suddenly covered both eyes and flopped onto the bronze mirror.

Momma mia, now that’s settled, no need to fret over which eye predicts disaster and which eye heralds wealth!

Both his damn eyes started twitching!

What’s this supposed to mean? Misfortune and fortune joined at the hip?

Gu Changsheng suddenly felt that he had been played by Heavenly Father once again!

This is truly being screwed over, with absolutely no place to reason it out!

However, Gu Changsheng quickly pushed the matter out of his mind; if his eyelids wanted to twitch, let them twitch – it just proved he cried less!

Having satisfyingly feasted to his heart’s content, Gu Changsheng still feared he wouldn’t be able to eat at the banquet’s lunch and deliberately ate more!

Si Xi and Dong Lei watched their ravenously eating lady in silence, unable to help but chime in with cautionary advice.

”My lady, you can’t eat like this at the plum viewing banquet,” Si Xi said with a worried face.

”Right, my lady, you should be mindful of your image! Image!” Dong Lei agreed.

Gu Changsheng swallowed the mouthful of food and brightly replied, ”Well, weren’t you the ones rushing me to dress up? That’s why I was eating in a hurry. And besides, to speak nicely, it’s called a plum viewing banquet, but to speak frankly, it might as well be a trap banquet! My eyelids have been twitching ever since I woke up until now, giving me the constant impression that something’s not right. Who knows if I’ll even be able to enjoy the banquet!”

”You’re saying nonsense, my lady!” Dong Lei protested upon hearing this.

”All right, all right, let’s get the lady dressed quickly!” Si Xi, glancing at the sky, urged yet again in anxiety.

”I’m coming, I’m coming!” Gu Changsheng got up upon hearing this, not forgetting to grab two buns and stuff them into his bosom, giggling, ”If this really turns out to be a trap banquet, at least I have something to pad my stomach. I need to be full to have the strength to fight, right?”

Si Xi and Dong Lei immediately rolled their eyes dramatically at her words – they were truly lost for words with their own lady!

Seeing this, Gu Changsheng, unfazed, made his way to Cool Breeze Tower. This time, he was exceptionally cooperative, letting Si Xi pick up after him.

After getting ready, Gu Changsheng applied a light makeup to himself and contentedly boarded the carriage, taking Si Xi and Dong Lei out the door with him!

A winter rain had just passed, dropping the temperature quite a bit, but even so, it couldn’t dampen the enthusiasm of the crowds gathered for the excitement!

The closer they got to Hengtang Lake, the more pedestrians there were on the road, all with faces brimming with excitement, hopping and laughing joyfully!

As they continued towards Hengtang Lake, only one phrase could describe the scene: ”Carriages flowed like water and horses moved like dragons.” The place was extraordinarily lively! Moreover, the girls’ attire became increasingly elaborate, dazzlingly eye-catching!

Gu Changsheng, who peered out through the lifted carriage curtain, couldn’t help but look repeatedly in awe!

Weren’t they afraid their elaborate headpieces would snap their necks?

Looking at these elegantly dressed girls with shy and bashful appearances, their faces practically screamed in bold letters: Seeking favor! Seeking favor from the princes!

Tsk tsk... truly courting death!

Is becoming a phoenix that easy? One by one, they all dream of leaping through the Dragon Gate! That’s just absurdly wishful thinking!

The allure of the Four Kingdoms’ Crown Princes really is far-reaching, indeed!

”Halt! Who goes there?” Suddenly, a cold reprimand rang beside Gu Changsheng’s ear, causing him, seated in the carriage, to startle.

Had they arrived at Hengtang Lake Bank while he was lost in thought?

It wasn’t easy... What a struggle to squeeze in!

”My lady, they’re not Great Zhou guards!” Si Xi took a glance at the guard who had stopped their carriage and then turned to speak to the inside of the carriage.

Gu Changsheng squinted his eyes upon hearing that.

It was understandable for the Four Kingdoms’ Crown Princes attending the banquet to check the identities of participants, but the fact that these verifying guards were not from Great Zhou was a bit curious!

Gu Changsheng couldn’t help lifting the curtain to look to the side, and sure enough, surrounding Hengtang Lake Bank for inspections were guards in varying uniforms, clearly a mix from the Four Kingdoms!

The corners of Gu Changsheng’s mouth slowly curled into a mocking smile; he had guessed right. No banquet was without its peril, and the people from the Three Kingdoms were really full of arrogance and confidence!

Seeing that they were not responding, the guards began murmuring among themselves.

”Who are these newcomers? Look at that carriage, it’s so unremarkable!”

”Obviously from some minor household, asking them anything is a waste of time!”

”Right! Those attending the plum viewing banquet are distinguished gentry and grand families from within Liuzhou Region. Who would act so petty?”

”Just kick them out!”

”...”

Gu Changsheng, upon hearing these words, instantly became furious!

Was she just being looked down upon?

What’s wrong with her carriage? It was a beacon of understated luxury and sophistication!

”What a bunch of bullies abusing their power, I’d like to see who dares to kick me out!”
