Let’s Squander A Billion First!

Chapter 2174: Chapter 2174: Mr. Zombie (33)

The base leader cleared his throat and cut to the chase.

”There’s a bio-research company in the city with an advanced laboratory, and we need to use their equipment.”

The city wasn’t far, and they initially aimed for that laboratory, but sadly, there were too many zombies in the city.

Chuzheng glanced suspiciously at the base leader. Just for this?

The laboratory in the base was, after all, temporarily set up. Although they had brought back quite a bit of equipment, it couldn’t compare to a proper laboratory.

The most crucial issue was the base’s insufficient power supply.

Even with backup power sources, they occasionally malfunctioned.

And these situations posed challenges for conducting experiments.

Seeing Chuzheng didn’t react much, the base leader continued, ”Miss Ji, you’re ultimately human and need clean water and food. Even if you have supplies now, what about in the future? Sooner or later, those supplies will run out, and then what?”

”We need to study the suppression of the virus, which requires food.”

The base leader added, ”Once results are obtained, our base is willing to share them with Miss Ji.”

The base leader’s intentions were clear: she provides the laboratory, they take charge of the research, and the results would be shared with her.

The base leader looked rather tense at the young girl in front of him.

”It’s not impossible,” Chuzheng relaxed, ”But you’ll have to give me some people.”

”...” Give?

Why do you need people?

Previously, she just borrowed them.

The base leader cautiously asked, ”What does Miss Ji need people for?” Surely not to feed them to zombies?

That’s absolutely not okay!

”City rebuilding needs people.” Running back and forth borrowing this and that tires her out, it’s better to just—capture, no—retrieve a batch to take back.

”...” The base leader wiped a non-existent sweat, ”That’s not a problem, I can find people for you.”

Chuzheng discussed the personnel needed with the base leader and arranged for them to send people into the city before she returned to the city.

The next day, the base leader personally brought people to the outskirts of the city. Chuzheng didn’t appear, and the one to greet them was an energetic young man.

”Hello everyone, my name is Zhao Yingjun,” the young man said loudly, ”Follow my car in. Once inside, do not provoke the zombies. If they gather around, do not move; as long as you don’t move, they won’t move either.”

Everyone: ”...”

The group didn’t quite understand what Zhao Yingjun meant by ”do not move.”

Only when they were inside, surrounded by zombies, with their clothes and hair being tugged, did they realize what ”do not move” meant.

Today, most of those who came were involved in scientific research.

Many were taken away right when the virus outbreak began, escorted on their journey, never having close contact with zombies.

Those who had, were never surrounded by zombies like this.

Being surrounded like this, they started to question life.

Will these zombies really not attack them?

What if they bite them!

The base leader, however, remained somewhat calm, having constantly conversed with Chuzheng amidst zombie crowds.

The zombies were familiar with Zhao Yingjun’s presence, knowing not to touch him, or else that fierce woman would beat them up, so he wasn’t treated the same.

Zhao Yingjun stood outside the zombies, pointing at the building behind him, ”This is your desired location; the zombies inside have been cleared out. But it seems many places are damaged, I suggest fixing it first, or else zombies might sneak in.”

”Mr. Zhao, could you make them... disperse?” the base leader asked.

”I can’t,” Zhao Yingjun helplessly replied, ”They don’t listen to me.”

These zombies only listened to the boss, ignoring everyone else.

They clearly understood, yet all pretended not to, which was quite infuriating.

Of course, the base leader couldn’t trouble Zhao Yingjun, ”Then... when might they disperse?”

”I don’t know, depends on their mood.” Low interest might make them disperse soon, high interest might take a while.

After all, zombies loved these lively, crunchy humans.

”Jiaojiao!”

Suddenly, someone in the crowd called out loudly, causing the zombie crowd to stir.

On the outskirts of the crowd, someone grabbed a zombie, emotionally shouting ’Jiaojiao’.

And the surrounding zombies, startled by him, turned to look over, the atmosphere instantly changing.

Zhao Yingjun jumped, ”What are you doing! Let her go!”

”Jiaojiao, she’s my daughter.” The person was emotional.

”Let her go first!” Zhao Yingjun didn’t dare approach, so he shouted, ”She doesn’t remember you now, inciting her does no good!”

Hearing Zhao Yingjun’s words, the base leader hurriedly instructed their escorts to separate them.

But as soon as they moved, the zombies grew more excited, some losing control and reaching to grab people.

Zhao Yingjun cursed under his breath and quickly grabbed a familiar zombie, sending it to report.

That zombie operated near Chuzheng, Zhao Yingjun could barely direct it, and off it went.

The zombies, wary of Chuzheng’s intimidation, only dared pull on people, not bite them.

So the scene became a bit...

Like a group brawl without using weapons, with pushing and shoving.

Just as the zombies’ hunger for fresh humans was about to surpass their fear of Chuzheng, they suddenly quieted and quickly made way.

The group of people being hauled clung close to each other nervously.

Down the road-clearing, a man with a mask walked over, occasionally growling at zombies on his flanks.

Everyone heard clearly; the sound he made was zombie-like...

The exposed skin was distinctly not the color of normal humans.

He’s a zombie!

The base leader watched Bei Chi in astonishment, recalling him as someone close to Chuzheng and... they seemed quite intimate.

He’s actually a zombie?

The base leader almost had a heart attack.

The info was a bit much; he struggled to process it.

Bei Chi quelled the riotous zombies and didn’t approach further, casting a glance at the base leader from afar before turning to leave.

Once Bei Chi departed, the surrounding zombies followed suit.

”Jiaojiao...”

The person who started the commotion saw his daughter leaving too and couldn’t help but try to follow.

Those beside him quickly restrained him, pressing him back firmly, preventing him from making noise.

Soon, silence enveloped the area.

It’s unknown how much time passed until a voice rang out.

”Who was that person?”

”Wasn’t it said zombies only listened to one woman?”

”Do you think he’s human?”

”Isn’t he?”

”I saw the skin on his neck... it wasn’t a normal human color, it was a pale cyan... though very faint.”

This statement caused the whole group to become eerily silent.

The zombie behaved no differently from regular people; if he were a zombie...
