Chapter 2053: Chapter 2053: Hesitant to Return (20)

Chi Gui didn’t expect Chuzheng would take such action, he moved back slightly, trying to create some distance from another side.

Chuzheng reached out and blocked him.

Chi Gui was completely sandwiched between Chuzheng and the tree.

At this close distance, he could vaguely feel the girl’s gentle breathing and the faint fragrance wafting at the tip of his nose.

The dappled light through the tree branches lightly showered over them like floating microorganisms.

For no reason, Chi Gui’s heart trembled slightly, and suddenly he could hear the clear sound of his heartbeat echoing in his ears.

Chi Gui turned his gaze away, not looking at the person in front of him: ”Student Hang, what are you doing?”

Chuzheng was quite fierce: ”What did you just hear?”

Chi Gui asked back: ”What do you not want me to hear?”

Chuzheng thought for a second: ”There’s nothing you can’t hear. From now on, I’ll have your back, no one will dare to bully you anymore.”

Chi Gui: ”...”

Did she get something wrong?

What’s up with this big sister-style behavior?

Chi Gui’s erratically beating heart gradually calmed down.

”Student Hang, I don’t need it, but thanks for your kindness.”

”You need it!” I don’t want to have to collect your body.

”...”

Don’t I know whether I need it or not?

Chi Gui returned to the dormitory, and You Zixi shouted, ”Brother Chi, where are my potato chips?”

Chi Gui snapped back: ”What?”

”Potato chips! Didn’t you go to the convenience store? I asked you to bring me back some chips... Brother Chi, you didn’t forget, did you?”

As You Zixi finished speaking, he began to wail, saying things like ’I’m not your little sweetheart anymore’ and so forth.

Chi Gui was disgusted.

”What are you eating chips for at night?” Chi Gui tossed out the question and went straight to the bathroom.

You Zixi: ”???”

”What’s up with Brother Chi?”

You Zixi shrugged his shoulders, not sure what was going on.

Could it have something to do with Hang Chuzheng?

He saw her with that guy earlier, and Brother Chi seemed off after that...

The more You Zixi thought about it, the more plausible it seemed.

Chi Gui came out of the bathroom and climbed up to his bed, You Zixi immediately stepped on the lower bunk, clutching the rail above: ”Brother Chi, can I ask you something?”

”Ask what?” Chi Gui looked at You Zixi suspiciously.

You Zixi chuckled twice: ”I’ll ask you on my phone.”

Chi Gui: ”...” Ridiculous.

You Zixi got down, and Chi Gui soon received a message from him.

[You Zixi: Brother Chi, do you like Hang Chuzheng?]

Chi Gui looked at this sentence, his brows furrowed.

Like her?

Impossible!

Chi Gui instinctively refuted it.

But then he remembered how his heart raced when he was with her, and thought perhaps....

[Chi Gui: Why would I like her?]

[You Zixi: She’s so pretty and classy, why wouldn’t you?]

[Chi Gui: ...What does that have to do with me?]

Chi Gui typed this sentence, then tossed aside his phone and pulled out a comic book from under the pillow.

The phone continuously chimed with notifications, as messages from You Zixi kept pouring in.

Chi Gui reluctantly picked up the phone again.

[You Zixi: Brother Chi, be honest, don’t you really like her?]

[You Zixi: When have you been so patient with a girl? Even going hiking and having meals together.....]

[You Zixi: If you don’t like her, I’m going after her!]

Chi Gui’s fingers hovered over the input box as he typed—if you want to pursue her, then go ahead, why tell me.

After typing, his fingers lingered over the ’send’ button but never pressed it.

He deleted the message, one character at a time.

[Chi Gui: Going to sleep.]

[You Zixi: Come on, Brother Chi, chat a bit more.]

[You Zixi: Brother Chi?]

[You Zixi: Do you like her or not!]

Chi Gui stopped replying to You Zixi and instead opened the chat with Chuzheng.

Their conversation had stalled since the last autumn outing.

After she laid down that ’on call’ condition, she hadn’t contacted him since.

If she didn’t want to find him, why propose such a condition?

Chi Gui stared at the screen, motionless for a while.

Just as he was about to turn off his phone to sleep, a new message suddenly popped up on the screen.

Chi Gui’s heart raced uncontrollably.

[Chuzheng: 1. Movie. 2. Real-life escape room. 3. Food carnival. 4. Concert. 5. Comic convention. 6. Horse riding... Fishing...]

Chi Gui: ”...”

[Chi Gui: What does this mean?]

[Chuzheng: Pick one for the weekend.]

Huh?

Pick one?

Chi Gui didn’t know if he was overthinking it. He enlarged the message so that no one could see who sent it, then knocked gently below the bunk.

”Brother Chi?”

You Zixi poked his head out.

Chi Gui showed You Zixi his phone: ”Do you think if someone asks you to choose one of these, it counts as a date?”

”Going to the movies, escape room...” You Zixi’s expression turned odd towards the end: ”Horse riding, fishing, archery?”

Who would choose those for a date, unless they had hobbies in that area...

”No, Brother Chi, who sent this to you?”

”No one.” Chi Gui pulled back his phone.

You Zixi’s eyes twirled around cunningly, then he winked at him: ”Brother Chi, did you find this online?”

”...”

”Are you coming around? Planning to ask someone out?”

”...” She sent it to me! So... does that count as a date?

You Zixi wanted to give Chi Gui some life advice, but unfortunately, Chi Gui wasn’t in the mood to listen.

[Chi Gui: Do I have to choose?]

[Chuzheng: On call.]

[Chi Gui: ...]

Suddenly felt like studying.

[Chi Gui: Two.]

[Chuzheng: Okay.]

Chi Gui put down the phone, lay there for a long time without sleeping, and finally dozed off in a daze as dawn approached.

The midterm exams at Dongyang Middle School were treated as seriously as final exams, and even students from Huahai were affected by the atmosphere.

After finishing the last exam, the school would have a day off, plus the weekend, making it a three-day holiday.

”The questions felt so hard this time.”

”I didn’t solve the last big math problem, did you manage it? What was your answer...”

”I felt like English was murdering me! Why was it so difficult!”

”Physics was even harder!”

Amidst a crowd of students anxious and regretful about their answers, Chuzheng remained the calm representative of zen.

After the homeroom teacher finished speaking, the students could pack up and leave.

The original occupant of the room always stayed at the dorms and didn’t have a place outside, so Chuzheng had nothing to pack.

Many students at Dongyang Middle School didn’t leave the campus during breaks, so there were no worries.

”Chuchu, it’s break time, want to go out?” Qin Qiao came running with Jian You, tugging him along: ”Jian You and I plan to go to a comic convention, are you coming?”

Chuzheng shook her head.

Qin Qiao sighed.

Why is it so hard to ask a girl out?

”Then how about we eat together on Saturday?” Qin Qiao said, ”My treat! My dad sent me some pocket money!”

”Did you spend all ten thousand?”

”... Master, that’s the drama club budget, how could we misuse funds for eating and drinking! That’s absolutely out of the question! Anti-corruption starts with me!”

”...”

Yes, yes, yes.

Chuzheng hinted for Jian You to take the drama queen away, she couldn’t handle it.
