Chapter 566 -566: I Am Your Sister (21)

Chuzheng first followed Shen Ming to the lounge, with plenty of time before the event started. Xie Yuepei somehow found a deck of cards and invited Chuzheng and Shen Ming to play.

Shen Ming suggested that he and Chuzheng play, while he rested on the side.

“President Shen, relax a little!” Xie Yuepei said, “You’ll have your hands full soon enough.”

Shen Ming saw Chuzheng holding the cards, her demeanour submissive and eyes lowered, which inexplicably softened his heart, and he sat down to join them.

Xie Yuepei was an excellent card player when it came to gambling on stones, but he was incredibly unlucky at the card table.

Chuzheng won almost every hand.

“Sister Shen, your luck is just too good!” Xie Yuepei complained.

Chuzheng’s face was serious: “You can count.”

Xie Yuepei: “???”

What the hell does “you can count” mean?!

This is just like Shen Ming!

All he wanted was to play a few hands to relax, not to play like this!!

Xie Yuepei was getting crushed, thankfully Lin Yang came in to fetch Shen Ming since someone outside wanted to see him, and the banquet was about to start as well.

He gave Chuzheng a few words of caution and left the room.

Xie Yuepei tossed the cards aside, staring intently at Chuzheng.

“Sister.”

Chuzheng sat back on the sofa, speaking indifferently: “I’m not your sister.”

Xie Yuepei hooked the corner of his lips, his smile lasciviously overbearing: “But you’re Shen Ming’s sister, right?”

Chuzheng glanced at him: “What do you want to say?”

“You and Shen Ming…” Xie Yuepei hesitated: “What’s your relationship, huh?”

“Siblings.” Is this guy stupid? Isn’t their relationship common knowledge?

Xie Yuepei rested his chin in one hand: “That’s not right. Has Shen Ming done something to you? Tell your brother, and I’ll take care of it for you.”

Chuzheng couldn’t be bothered with him and chose to remain silent.

Xie Yuepei grew more convinced that something was amiss: “Sister Shen, you do realize you and Shen Ming are brother and sister, right? There’s a blood relationship between you two, and overstepping boundaries wouldn’t be right.”

“You’re very noisy.”

“Sister Shen, if you don’t want me to be noisy, then tell me, what is your relationship with Shen Ming?”

“Siblings.” Chuzheng’s tone was icy as her gaze swept over Xie Yuepei, wondering whether or not to take care of this annoyingly flamboyant man.

“Siblings…” Xie Yuepei dropped the hand supporting his chin and, like Sherlock Holmes, began: “Shen Ming and you are wearing matching outfits. From what I know about him, unless there was something special between you two, he definitely wouldn’t do that.”

Chuzheng was about to say something when Shen Ming came in.

He motioned for Chuzheng to come over, and Xie Yuepei raised a finger to his lips, winking explosively at Chuzheng as he did so.

Chuzheng walked over, and Shen Ming took her hand to lead her out of the room.

“That man suspects that we are not brother and sister,” Chuzheng said as soon as they were outside. “Should we take care of him?”

Shen Ming knew that Xie Yuepei could figure it out, after all these years of friendship.

He wasn’t the least bit surprised.

But…

The latter statement from Chuzheng made Shen Ming’s heart tremble slightly.

What was she talking about?

Chuzheng tilted her head to look at him, her gaze calm and earnest as though she would act immediately if he nodded.

“Never mind him,” Shen Ming said. “I will talk to him.”

Chuzheng thought for a moment: “Oh.”

If he’s not too annoying, she supposed she wouldn’t “take care of him” for now.

Shen Ming escorted Chuzheng through the corridor to a door.

Hostesses were standing by the door, their eyes gleaming as they saw people coming.

If not for professional ethics restraining them, they probably would have pounced.

Shen Ming placed one hand in front: “Sister, take your brother’s arm.”

Chuzheng looped her arm through Shen Ming’s, and as the door opened, the spotlight suddenly shone on the entrance.

Shen Ming led Chuzheng inside; the radiance followed their movements.

The pale blue dress on Chuzheng reflected subtle sparkles under the light; its waist-cinching design accentuated her slender waist. As she moved, the hem of her dress swayed, tracing beautiful arcs in the air like ripples spreading on the water’s surface.

Shen Ming stood tall and noble, with features as if painted by an artist; under the light, the man shone like dazzling stars.

The black suit he wore seemed unremarkable at first, but upon closer inspection, one would realize that its design at the collar and cuffs matched Chuzheng’s dress.

Standing together, they looked like a match made in heaven.

The venue fell silent; the people on the large screen seemed to make the audience forget how to react.

It wasn’t until the lights in the venue were all turned on that the people below snapped back to reality.

“Is that Shen Ming?”

“Did we come to the wrong place?”

“The new CEO of EG is Shen Ming? No way… Impossible, right?”

“Isn’t that Shen Chuzheng by his side?”

The audience’s questions were probably all the same.

Is that Shen Ming?

The Shen Ming of the Shen Family?

Before Shen Corporation went bankrupt, there were rumors that Shen Ming had returned, but few had actually seen him.

When Shen Corporation went bankrupt, he didn’t lift a finger, as if it were merely a rumor.

But now…

The host was introducing Shen Ming’s background, his overseas experience, and the achievements he had made at EG over the years.

“Now, please President Shen say a few words to everyone.”

The host passed the microphone to Shen Ming.

Facing the crowd, Shen Ming’s cool and ascetic face showed no emotion as he made an official statement before handing the microphone back.

The host, seemingly well-prepared and undaunted, smoothly continued.

Shen Ming cooperated by answering a few questions from the host, and then it was time for media questions.

Though the media had not expected such a development, they quickly adapted, bringing forth a barrage of sharp questions.

The company had done some groundwork, but there were many journalists present who were not familiar with EG.

“President Shen, as the eldest son of Shen’s, what are your thoughts on the bankruptcy of Shen Corporation?”

Shen Ming responded indifferently, “Five years ago, I was expelled from the Shen Family and have since had no relation to them, therefore I have no comments to make.”

“President Shen, people cherish loyalty and sentiment. Even if that’s the case, isn’t your indifference a bit inhumane?”

“President Shen, as CEO of EG, saving Shen Corporation would be but a word from you. Why are you so heartless? If you lack even this basic sentiment, who would dare to cooperate with EG in the future?”

Journalists kept asking questions one after another, but Shen Ming remained composed, “Company policy cannot be skewed due to personal reasons. Shen Corporation is not worth the risk for the company. Next question.”

His answer squarely put the responsibility on the company.

This wasn’t something he could decide alone, even though he was now the CEO of EG.

No matter how tricky the questions from the journalists were, Shen Ming handled them with ease.

Chuzheng grew increasingly impatient with the noise of the crowd and the constant flashing of cameras.

Shen Ming seemed to notice that Chuzheng was not quite right.

“We can end the questions now,” he said to the host, turning slightly.

Seeing the situation getting somewhat out of hand, the host quickly ended the question period.

“President Bai.”

Among the crowd, Father Bai looked somber as he watched the stage; hearing his name called, he quickly composed his expression.

“President Bai, today really was unexpected.”

“Indeed,” Father Bai agreed.

“Shen Corporation has fallen, and now there’s a Shen Ming rising up in EG. I heard you were negotiating with EG, President Bai. Didn’t you catch wind of this at all?”

Father Bai forced a smile, “I’d just started to make connections with EG; how could I have known about this? EG’s confidentiality is so tight, I reckon even their internal staff knew very little.”

“Hahaha… indeed.”

Father Bai gazed at the man on the stage, glowing with a halo of light, and felt an odd sensation in his heart.
