Chapter 531: Chapter 531 Difficult to be a Hostage (26)

Lian Qiong and Chuzheng could not come to an agreement, Lian Qiong left in a huff.

Chen Fei was waiting outside the prison and when he caught sight of Lian Qiong, he quickly stepped forward to greet him, “Highness…”

“Just let him die in there.”

Chen Fei broke out into a cold sweat in shock, “Your Highness, watch your words. Marquis Yongan hasn’t…”

There are still people here!

Highness, could you please be mindful of the circumstances?

You shouldn’t have come today at all!!

“Who said anything about that old coot,” Lian Qiong glared at Chen Fei.

Chen Fei’s thoughts took a turn, and upon realizing that Wei Country’s Hostage was also detained inside, he suddenly understood.

“Highness, what has Wei Country’s Hostage done to offend you?”

“Nothing at all.”

Lian Qiong mounted the carriage with fierce energy.

Chen Fei, still skeptical, approached the carriage window, “Highness, do you still want something to be done about Wei Country’s Hostage…”

“What do I want, just get back!”

Chen Fei grew even more worried.

If His Highness truly has started liking men, what are we to do!

–

Chuzheng had said she wouldn’t be held for long, and indeed, as soon as Marquis Yongan’s matter was settled, she was released.

The Emperor summoned her to an audience.

In a probing manner, he asked her about some matters concerning Wei Country, to which Chuzheng responded with a blueprint of answers that consisted of ‘I don’t know, I’m not clear.’

Had it been someone else, they probably would have been dragged out and beheaded several times over.

Having dealt with the Emperor, Chuzheng returned to the palace with Xiao Shanzi.

Chuzheng hadn’t expected someone from Wei Country to have the audacity to infiltrate the palace to see her.

The visitor opened with a demand, “Thirteenth Prince, do you still remember your duties?”

Chuzheng answered leisurely, “To be a good Hostage.”

“…” The visitor was clearly taken aback, “As a Prince, do not act on a whim for personal reasons, think about Wei Country, think about your mother consort.”

Chuzheng: “…” Why should I think about you? Why don’t you think about me?

I am but a Hostage here, is it easy for me?

There are so many pampered princes in Wei Country, let them think about it!

All you know is to bully this poor soul!

This is too much!

“My mother consort…”

“Thirteenth Prince, as long as the great task is accomplished, you will be able not only to reunite with your mother consort,” the visitor spoke with heartfelt sincerity, as if she truly could return.

Chuzheng didn’t listen at all and slowly added her own words, “Isn’t she already dead.”

The visitor was clearly flustering.

He couldn’t possibly know about this…

“Who’s been talking nonsense to you, Thirteenth Prince? Your mother consort is fine, if you don’t believe me, I can send a message back and have her write to you.”

“Alright,” Chuzheng nodded, “Then, please, go to the Underworld and relay that to my mother.”

The visitor’s pupils dilated slightly.

“Seize the assassin!”

Chuzheng raised her voice and shouted out.

“You…”

“If you don’t run now, it’ll be too late,” Chuzheng reminded him.

The visitor, hearing footsteps getting closer, changed his expression and quickly jumped out the window to escape.

–

Night fell.

“Why have you called for me?” The assassin jumped in from the window, “Who do you want to scare this time?”

“Assassinate the Emperor of Jin Country and Wei Country’s Emperor,” Chuzheng said, “Can you do it?”

“… The palace is heavily guarded; where is it easy to assassinate?” The assassin hesitated, “And why do you want to assassinate two emperors? Do you have a grudge against them? Isn’t Wei Country’s Emperor your father?”

“Make them fight each other,” Chuzheng said outright.

“Huh?”

The assassin expressed complete incomprehension of his employer’s mindset.

What good would it do to have Jin Country and Wei Country go to war?

“Are emperors so foolish that assassination would lead them to battle?” the assassin asked.

“Of course, I can,”

Wei Country had already been plotting, just there hadn’t been a proper opportunity to act. And since Jin Country had just experienced the Marquis Yongan incident and discovered court officials colluding with Wei Country, the Emperor of Jin was enraged.

As long as the assassinations on both sides proceeded smoothly, and someone close to the Emperor was bribed to spread rumors, starting this war wouldn’t be difficult.

Assassin: “…”

Hearing this, the assassin was immensely relieved he was just an assassin.

But instigating a war between two countries, even for an assassin, was somewhat hesitant.

He had never taken part in such a big deal.

From a despised assassin to suddenly being involved in a national affair…

This was a qualitative leap!

“Do it!!”

Which man doesn’t have the ambition to do great things!

“Raise the price!” the assassin added, “This is dangerous, I still have to contact others, you can’t skimp on the money.”

Chuzheng, the boss: “Money is not a problem.”

“Then there’s no problem,” the assassin assured, “Wait for my good news.”

–

The Emperor of Jin narrowly escaped assassination, and a Wei Country Token was left at the scene. Though some court officials found its appearance sudden and suspicious, others proposed that Wei Country was being blatantly provocative.

The incident with Marquis Yongan was an example.

Wei Country obviously didn’t take Jin Country seriously.

When the Emperor of Jin heard this, he felt his authority was threatened, and despite some court officials’ attempts to dissuade him, he immediately ordered a challenge to be sent to the border.

Wei Country was also furious, and upon receiving the challenge from Jin Country, both sides struck a chord, foregoing words and commencing battle on the spot.

With the outbreak of war, the entire court became tense.

“Your Highness, where are you going?”

Lian Qiong hurried out of the palace, and Chen Fei bumped into him at the entrance, calling out in confusion.

However, Lian Qiong gave no response and disappeared quickly around the corner.

What happened??

Chen Fei quickly followed after him.

This road…

The Wei Country’s Hostage?

Ahead was the residence of the Wei Country’s Hostage, and by the time Chen Fei caught up with Lian Qiong, he had already stopped, standing at the corner. His beautiful face was expressionless, his eyes coldly fixed on the direction of the palace.

Outside the palace, the Imperial Guards were layering around it, three rings within and three rings without.

Whatever was happening inside the palace couldn’t be seen from the outside.

Chen Fei thought it wise to inquire further.

He quickly brought back news.

“Your Highness, the Thirteenth Prince is not inside,”

“Not inside?” Lian Qiong’s tone was with a slight lift, uncertain if it was relief or something else.

“Yes, when the Imperial Guards arrived, there was already no one here,” Chen Fei explained, “They might have heard something and run away in advance.”

Lian Qiong’s expression relaxed, “Go find him, bring him to a safe place.”

The worry in Chen Fei’s heart grew, though he dared not voice it, he could only agree.

–

The carriage sped through the narrow path when suddenly a few horse riders emerged, blocking its way.

The carriage was forced to stop.

“What happened?”

“Master, we’ve been stopped,” Xiao Shanzi’s voice trembled.

They had just managed to leave the city a step ahead of the Imperial Guards.

Having narrowly escaped, and now suddenly encountering several people blocking the way, Xiao Shanzi couldn’t help but be nervous. He didn’t want to die!

The person inside the carriage lifted the curtain to look outside.

“Thirteenth Prince, our master invites you,” The man on horseback bowed in greeting.

“Who is your master?” So you say I should go, and I just go? Do I have no shame?

“You’ll know once the Thirteenth Prince arrives,”

Chuzheng refused, “I won’t go.”

The man said, “Then I’m afraid we must take offense.”

“Oh.” Let’s see who’s more formidable then.
