Transmigration: The Evil Mother-In-Law Is Actually Innocent!

Chapter 1350: Chapter 1350: Wanting a Generous Son-in-Law

Early morning, Zhou Shuren had a stern face, but inside, he wanted to curse Wong Ju to death. Because of Wong Ju’s pompousness, now, just three days after Yu Lu got pregnant, everyone who should know, knew. It turned out that both Yushuang and Yu Lu got pregnant shortly after their marriages.

If it were only Yu Lu, it wouldn’t be convincing, but with Yushuang included, now the two sisters offered convincing proof, and though not entirely believed, people still thought that the Zhou family girls were fertile.

The Emperor seated above saw everything clearly. It was somewhat regrettable that the Zhou family girls wouldn’t marry into the Royal family. His gaze shifted to Shangguan, hmm, now that the imperial decree was set, the Shangguan family would have numerous sons and blessings as well.

After the morning court, Zhou Shuren had a ’do not approach’ look, yet it couldn’t stop those who were interested in forming marriage alliances.

The Minister of Works approached him, ”My grandson is fifteen this year, talented in studies, and has no bad habits, being filial and sensible. Mr. Zhou, what do you think?”

Zhou Shuren held back his retort. These recent years, the Minister of Works had a decent relationship with him, ”Hmm.”

The Minister of Works raised his mustache, ”What does your ’hmm’ mean?”

Zhou Shuren, ”My granddaughter is still young, no rush.”

The Minister of Works stroked his mustache, ”It’s better to settle marriages early; if it’s too late, the good boys will be gone.”

Zhou Shuren rolled his eyes. The Zhou family did not need marriage alliances, so some boys from noble families were always backups. The Minister of Works was particularly clear-headed regarding official matters, but with household matters, ha, he scoffed. He would be crazy to let his granddaughter marry into that family and suffer, no way.

Zhou Shuren couldn’t be bothered to speak and quickened his pace.

The Minister of Works pointed at the departing Zhou Shuren and said to those around, ”Look at him.”

Li Zhao clicked his tongue, ”I think Mr. Zhou’s attitude is fine. Don’t you know the situation in your own household?”

That old fellow is sentimental and nostalgic, as a result, his backyard is bustling with women having their places in his heart, leading to fierce competitions among the illegitimate sons and daughters, and yet that old man is blindly optimistic, believing his household is very harmonious!

The Minister of Works was angered and wanted to argue but then, good grief, everyone nearby quickened their pace.

The Minister of Works went silent, asking his colleague from the morning court, the Deputy Minister of Works, ”Is my house really bad?”

The Deputy Minister of Works said nothing. How could he dare to speak, mentally complaining: who in the capital doesn’t know about the intense rivalry among your sons!

At the Ministry of Rites, Chang Yi leisurely brewed tea. With the list of envoys set, he wasn’t busy anymore. He delegated tasks and just needed to supervise.

”Ay, Mr. Zhou is brewing tea. Quite a coincidence, I just brought some tea leaves here.”

Chang Yi eyed Officer Liu, if you asked who was the stingiest in the Ministry of Rites, Officer Liu would be on that list, ”I’ve already started brewing, Officer Liu, please have a seat”>

Officer Liu sniffed, ”Good tea. I’ve long heard the Emperor rewarded you with good tea, and indeed, this matches the reputation of tribute tea.”

Chang Yi, ”...”

In the Ministry of Rites, there were many retired officials meaning more drinkers of tea, he’d be foolish to bring tribute tea here. This tea came from a new tea garden his wife had started.

Chang Yi thought it necessary to clarify, otherwise just wait, in the future, more will come to mooch off his tea. ”This tea is from our own garden. It might be from a region near the tribute tea’s origin, so it smells similar.”

Officer Liu, ”That explains it.”

Chang Yi’s tea was ready, ”How does it taste?”

Officer Liu smiled as he accepted it, carefully tasting, ”Hmm, comparable to tribute tea.”

Chang Yi, ”...”

If it weren’t for the fact that the Liu family also received some tribute tea annually, and Officer Liu indeed had tasted it, he would have really believed him. Bah, tea from his own garden couldn’t compare to tribute tea.

Chang Yi carries an honest persona, though no one believes he’s truly naive. Alas, his recent choices in list-making have caused some cracks in that image, ”Sir Liu didn’t just come for tea, did he?”

Sir Liu chuckled, ”My son, you’ve met him too.”

Chang Yi recalled carefully, having indeed met him days before, ”Your legitimate heir?”

Sir Liu grinned with a nod, ”Right, this boy takes after me the most.”

Chang Yi, ”...And his temperament too?”

Sir Liu nodded repeatedly, ”Exactly, just like me.”

Chang Yi twitched the corner of his mouth, no, he wouldn’t consider it. He wanted a son-in-law like Rongchuan, Liufeng was out of question. Although the Gu family couldn’t afford to honor him due to their poor background, he still hoped for a son-in-law who was generous, definitely not a miser.

In the Zhou family, Zhulan and Mrs. Zhao discussed the arrangement of Ming Rui’s engagement. Mrs. Tao would visit the Lin family tomorrow to finalize the gifts once again.

Once confirmed, Zhulan thought of Yushuang’s son’s name, ”Has the child’s name not been decided?”

Mrs. Zhao helplessly replied, ”My husband has come up with many names, but hasn’t decided on one yet.”

He had also picked many names for his son-in-law, but my husband dismissed them all at a glance.

Zhulan speechlessly said, ”The child is almost a month old, it’s about time.”

She admitted she was terrible at naming, feeling anything close would suffice.

Mrs. Zhao gave a dry laugh, ”My husband still wants to visit the temple and ask a master for advice.”

Zhulan, ”...As long as Chang Yi is happy.”

After all, it’s Chang Yi’s grandson.

Mrs. Zhao smiled; ever since her daughter got married, her husband’s return made the house lively. Despite all the hassle her husband caused her son-in-law, the son-in-law wasn’t upset but rather happy. It was a case of mutual tolerance, so she went from worrying initially to not interfering anymore.

Mrs. Zhao continued, ”I heard that at the Xue family, Yao Yao had put the Shang family’s second daughter-in-law to shame.”

Zhulan had heard from Chang Yi, ”Yao Yao has been low profile for years, but this time she decided to assert her dominance.”

Mrs. Zhao nodded, ”Yes, in these years Mrs. Hou has been like she vanished, otherwise the Shang family wouldn’t have so blatantly coveted Mr. Hou.”

Zhulan, having advised the Shang family’s matriarch before and kept tabs on Shang Qing, recently heard some good reputations about him. She heard the old lady say they planned to pick a suitable match for engagement from next year’s top scholars.

The next day, Mrs. Tao visited the Lin family. Old Mrs. Lin was overjoyed, seeing it as the Zhou family valuing her granddaughter as the future primary matron of Wong Ju’s clan.

The engagement went smoothly, followed by the matching of horoscopes.

The horoscope results were excellent, truly a rare good match.

Mrs. Zhao, seeing the results, smiled every day, cherishing the rare good match and growing fonder of Miss Lin.

Zhulan, too, was relieved. Ming Rui was not in a rush to marry, and the Lin family didn’t want to marry off their daughter so early either. Both families agreed on an engagement now, planning the marriage for a few years later.

Ming Rui’s engagement, especially to the Lin family’s legitimate daughter, impacted the second wife greatly. It was a rare good match for the second wife, and beneficial for the Zhou family since the Lin family had produced Imperial Censors for generations — at least in the future, the Censors might be somewhat lenient.

This year’s winter had little snow, with only one snowfall since the onset but the wind was strong and bitterly cold.

Chang Xhong and Ming Rui both fell ill, sneezing daily and resting at home.

Chang Xhong and Ming Rui stayed together, with Chang Xhong eating fruit and watching Ming Rui, who was seriously reading, couldn’t help but say, ”You should also take a break, rest well when you’re sick.”
