Transmigration: The Evil Mother-In-Law Is Actually Innocent!

Chapter 1091: Chapter 1091: Opening the Coffin Zhou Shuren felt that he had underestimated his second son before. The child’s identity had limited his thoughts. ”There hasn’t been unusual weather, but you’ve had these thoughts, haven’t you?”

Chang Yi was seen through by his father, and he only felt that he couldn’t hide anything, ”Yes, son had these thoughts on the way back on the ship. It is the rule for small nations to rely on large ones, our country’s sea trade is bound to flourish, and son saw the strife; son remembers father mentioning that sea trade will sooner or later lead to war, so son thought about it more.”

Zhou Shuren was pleasantly surprised, he had to be surprised, and he silently thought about some talented people in ancient times who didn’t read books. It seemed that opportunity was very important, of course, one also needed the ability to seize it.

Zhou Shuren was very pleased, ”Write down your thoughts in a Zhezi and give it to Wong Ju; he is your immediate superior now. Let him submit the Zhezi.”

Chang Yi was stunned, somewhat stuttering, ”Father, father, you want me to write a Zhezi to submit?”

Zhou Shuren slapped the table, ”Look at your timid appearance, where is the confidence from your earlier eloquent speech?”

Chang Yi thought that speaking to his father and writing for the Emperor or the Crown Prince couldn’t be the same. Saying the wrong thing before his father didn’t matter, but the Emperor and the Crown Prince were different; they truly wouldn’t indulge him. He asked once more, ”Father, are son’s thoughts truly good?”

Zhou Shuren smiled, approvingly saying, ”Not only are they good, but they also exhibit foresight.”

Chang Yi’s confidence returned. If father said it was good, it must be good. ”Father, son will go back and write the Zhezi now.”

”Good.”

After his second son left, Zhou Shuren muttered softly, ”I feel this boy might be able to overcome the barriers of promotion through his own abilities.”

Zhulan hoped that each branch of the Zhou family would grow stronger. They couldn’t manage it forever, and things were quite good now. ”Good.”

Chang Yi took his time writing the Zhezi. Firstly, Chang Yi’s handwriting wasn’t good; one wrong character meant he had to rewrite everything. Chang Yi considered asking his older nephew for help but finally stopped himself. He couldn’t always rely on his older nephew.

He had no choice but to resign himself to write the Zhezi. Before, he didn’t realize the importance of reading and writing. He knew many characters, but now, as he grabbed his hair in frustration, some characters looked like they were missing arms and legs when he wrote them.

The most embarrassing thing was that his wife’s handwriting was better than his, and she not only recognized many characters but could also explain and write them!

By the time Chang Yi finally finished the Zhezi, it was already eight or nine days later.

Chang Yi looked eagerly to his father for appraisal of the Zhezi, but seeing his father’s speechless expression, Chang Yi blushed, ”Father, son really did try his best.”

He knew all along that reading and writing were difficult, and these days had made him feel this more deeply. It had been really hard for him!

Zhou Shuren handed the Zhezi to his eldest grandson, ”Take a look at what your second uncle has written.”

Today in the study, Zhou Shuren kept several grandsons as well. Early exposure was a good thing.

Ming Rui looked up at the ceiling, firmly refusing to look at his father. He had already read it after his father had finished writing. Today’s Zhezi, his father had indeed made an effort.

Mingyun, with information secretly passed on from his younger brother, was steady. After reading it, he earnestly said, ”Second Uncle, your nephew thinks that you should read more and practice writing more at home in the future.”

The language of the Zhezi was vernacular, some parts weren’t expressed deeply, but most importantly, the handwriting was really too ugly, limp and weak!

Chang Yi’s face flushed, and he swore to his father, ”Son will definitely read more and practice writing more, but father, should I really submit this Zhezi to Master Wong?”

Zhou Shuren hummed in agreement, ”This is your thought; I won’t interfere. You can give it to Wong Ju tomorrow.”

Chang Yi felt extremely anxious in his heart. He was critical of his own Zhezi and understood his father’s intention; his father didn’t want the Emperor or the Crown Prince to think this was his father’s idea.

In the Palace, the Emperor took out the finished Jade Pendant, the only completed piece. He didn’t plan to trouble himself further; if it weren’t for his obsession, he wouldn’t want to torture himself at all.

The Crown Prince took a close look at the Jade Pendant. The Emperor had carved it well and then had a master carver polish it; the design on the Jade Pendant was not rough. ”Father, does the Rong family’s Jade Pendant have any significance?”

The Emperor took back the Jade Pendant, ”Yes, only the direct descendants wear the Jade Pendant, and the patterns on the direct descendants’ Jade Pendants also have meaning. The Jade Pendants for women and men are different.”

Crown Prince, ”How is it different?”

The Emperor, recalling, ”This one is a restoration based on your grandmother’s Jade Pendant. The jade pendants for men are without any pattern on the edges, and furthermore.”

The Crown Prince quite enjoyed hearing his father speak of the Rong family, ”And what else?”

The Emperor, smiling, ”Moreover, the direct lineage of the Rong family is different from that of other families.”

The Crown Prince had searched for much information about the Rong family but had never come across any differences in the direct lineage, his curiosity getting the better of him, ”In what way are they different?”

The Emperor, touching the Jade Pendant, ”The Rong family is a vast Clan. In order to maintain the family’s longevity, those in the Rong clan who have made significant contributions, or those who are exceptionally talented, will be assessed and granted the status of the direct lineage.”

The Crown Prince’s eyes widened, ”Don’t other families know this?”

The Emperor shook his head, ”Of course they know. How could they not? This is something that cannot be hidden.”

If it really could have been hidden, he would have had more hope that there would be survivors from the Rong family. But since it could not be concealed, he didn’t harbor much hope; the living members who joined the direct lineage were difficult to hide.

The Crown Prince thought again; naturally, anyone who took action against the Rong family would also have thoroughly researched them, ”Ah.”

The Emperor’s mood was still good, ”The people of your fourth brother are arriving in the capital tomorrow, aren’t they?”

The Crown Prince nodded, ”Yes, the coffin will enter the capital tomorrow.”

The Emperor hummed, ”It’s getting late. You should go back and rest. Tomorrow, accompany me to open the coffin.”

”Yes.”

The next day, at the Ministry of Rites, Wong Ju opened the Zhezi with a rigid expression. If not for the fact that the man before him was Zhou Shuren’s son, he would have sent it back to be rewritten without even looking at it. With a rigid face, he patiently read on, his expression growing softer and softer, until he was somewhat dumbfounded, ”Did you come up with all this?”

Wasn’t this young man someone who hadn’t read much?

Chang Yi had felt Mr. Wong’s disdain earlier and resolved in his heart to practice his writing more diligently, ”It was indeed this official’s idea.”

Wong Ju set down the Zhezi. At first, he had suspected that it was Zhou Shuren’s idea, something given to his son for his son’s sake, but now he didn’t think so. His gaze fell on the Zhezi, Zhou Shuren was training his son, ”You should read more.”

Chang Yi’s face flushed red, finally understanding what his father meant by ’Only when you need to use a book do you realize the regret of not having read enough,’ ”This official will certainly invite a teacher back home to read more.”

Wong Ju thought of rewriting the Zhezi but ended up thinking about Zhou Shuren, who tucked the Zhezi into his chest, ”This Zhezi will be sent into the Palace by this official.”

Now he too envied Zhou Shuren; even with a son who hadn’t read many books, he was so smart and daring, and what a boldness he had!

Chang Yi, with a grin, ”Thank you, sir.”

Inside the Palace, the Emperor ordered the coffin to be brought in, and there it lay in front of the government hall. The Emperor, with several of his sons, and even Zhang Yang present.

Prince Liang, listening to the officiant reciting the sutras for the deceased, felt somewhat irritated; he was eager to open the coffin.

But hearing the Emperor reciting the sutras along, he could only try to be patient and follow along.

The Emperor was very careful; once the officiant left, the Emperor returned to the government hall with the Crown Prince, and even the other princes were brought back to the hall. Only Zhang Yang was left outside.

Zhang Yang was stunned upon hearing the message from Eunuch Liu; he was to guard the opening of the coffin?

Prince Qi, looking at the bewildered Prince Liang, sneered. The Emperor truly cared about his own sons. Fearing the coffin might be a trap and carry danger, he ordered Zhang Yang to stay outside. This was the difference between a true son and a counterfeit one!

He felt the love of a father; it was truly not easy!
