Transmigration: The Evil Mother-In-Law Is Actually Innocent!

Chapter 992: Chapter 992: She Doesn’t Think It’s a Coincidence

Zhulan looked at Yao Xin, then at the woman, thinking, who is this person?

Yao Xin snapped the box shut with a slap, ”Whether I’m doing well or not, at least I’m the official wife, but what about you? Even after entering the Prince’s residence, you’re still a concubine without a title, aren’t you, Qiao Yiniang?”

Zhulan, ”....”

This was a coincidence? Hell no, she didn’t find it the slightest bit coincidental. Could a concubine from a Prince’s residence leave so easily? And to stroll into a jewelry store so brazenly.

Zhulan’s gaze fell on Yao Xin’s belly. When Yao Xin was pregnant, Zhulan thought, Zhang Yang had always held a grudge against Zhang Jinghong. Zhang Yang’s leg was injured, but he hadn’t lost his memory, being preoccupied with Zhang Jinghong could mean he hadn’t forgotten all about it.

What Zhang Yang lacked was a child. Now that Zhang Yang must be desperate for a child, Zhang Jinghong having a child was like a needle pricking Zhang Yang’s lungs.

Qiao Wei’s face was dark, and she clenched her teeth, ”I won’t be one for long.”

When the time came, she would definitely take care of Yao Xin, having been at a disadvantage at Yao Xin’s hands before.

The old nanny Song sniffed, then covered her hand to whisper softly, ”Mistress, we should leave quickly.”

Zhulan nodded, stood up, and gestured to the shopkeeper to pack up the selected jewelry. The shopkeeper was in a difficult position; after all, he didn’t dare offend a prince’s consort. People had already started to leave, and the shopkeeper, with pursed lips, thought it was an unlucky day indeed.

Qiao Wei recognized Lady Yang; she had seen her several times before entering the Fifth Prince’s residence. Seeing Lady Yang’s actions, Qiao Wei ultimately stayed silent.

Yao Xin was shrewd, ”Auntie, have you made your selection? Let’s go for tea.”

Zhulan glanced at Yao Xin and then at Yao Xin’s belly, ”Alright.”

Yao Xin was grateful inside. She spoke up only because she saw Qiao Wei’s apprehension; otherwise, she knew it wouldn’t be easy to leave.

Qiao Wei felt the nanny tugging at her. Irritated, she shook off the hand. She originally didn’t want to come in to look at jewelry; she had planned to visit her parental home today, but the nanny mentioned new jewelry, or else she wouldn’t have encountered Yao Xin and felt aggrieved.

Zhulan signaled Yao Xin to go downstairs first, and Yao Xin, not declining, hurried downstairs with her maidservant. After they had left, Zhulan slowly made her way down. Once outside the jewelry store, Yao Xin said, ”I thank the lady for today. I shall return to the residence now.”

Zhulan nodded, ”Be careful.”

Yao Xin treasured her belly, determined that apart from Miss Zhou’s wedding, she wouldn’t leave the residence again.

Once on the carriage, Zhulan asked Nanny Song, ”What did you smell?”

Nanny Song whispered, ”That nanny just now had a strong medicinal smell on her, mixed with a scent of perfume. It was a bit muddled, and too distant to discern clearly.”

Zhulan thought to herself that as long as it wasn’t a good smell, that was a bad sign. Their carriage had just started moving when chaos erupted behind them. Nanny Song opened the curtain to look back and saw Zhang Yang’s concubine clutching her belly as she came out.

Zhulan suddenly realized, ”I think I remember the Fifth Prince’s concubine saying she won’t be a concubine for long. I’m not mistaken, am I?”

”No, indeed, she said that.”

”So she’s aiming to become a concubine, and she’s pregnant?”

Zhulan was genuinely shocked. Wasn’t it said that Zhang Yang’s lineage was difficult?

Nanny Song furrowed her brows, feeling something was strange.

Zhulan found it even stranger; she had just suspected that Zhang Yang would target Zhang Jinghong’s child. How Zhang Yang needed a child, he should not risk his precious child with any plots. She was utterly confused.

Upon returning home, Zhulan was still in a mess and hadn’t figured things out. After changing her clothes, she went out to find Xue Han bringing Ning Ting, ”When did Ning Ting arrive?”

Upon greeting and rising, Ning Ting replied, ”I came in the morning, just a step too late. The lady had left shortly before.”

Zhulan hadn’t seen Ning Ting for a while, ”Is everything well with the Duchess?”

Ning Ting responded, ”Great-grandmother is well. She even asked me to convey her regards to the lady today.”

Zhulan continued, ”And your mother?”

”Mother is also well, she’s been resting of late. Lady, I’ve been here a while, so I’ll be heading back now.”

”Alright, send my regards to the Duchess and also greet your mother for me.”

Ning Ting dutifully said, ”I will.”

Xue Han went to see Ning Ting off and soon returned, saying, ”Sister Song is unwell. She stirred her pregnancy and is now resting.”

”Did Ning Ting tell you this?”

With a smile, Xue Han said, ”She wouldn’t tell me. Despite being younger than me, that girl knows how to avoid making Duke Ning lose face by not talking about things that should remain unseen.”

”Then how did you know?”

Xue Han touched her waist sachet, ”Rongchuan told me.”

”He really tells you everything, doesn’t he?”

Xue Han, with a secretive touch, put down her sachet and said, ”Rongchuan told me that the Empress summoned Lady Du. Not sure what upset the Empress, but Lady Du went back to the Duke Residence for a closed-door reflection.”

Zhulan chuckled, ”Rongchuan now shares everything with you. You’ll have him under your thumb in the future.”

Xue Han’s lips curled in a sweet smile, ”He just wants me to be prepared, so I won’t be aggrieved.”

As for the fact that Rongchuan told her that children who cry are more cherished, she wouldn’t mention that to her mother.

Zhulan handed over the retrieved box to her daughter, ”Here, take a look.”

”Mother, this jewelry set is really beautiful.”

Zhulan liked it too, but it was a pity she couldn’t wear it herself. She then gave the other boxes to Xue Han, ”These are for Yushuang and the others; you can deliver them.”

”Mother, did you buy one for Yu Die too? She also knows about jewelry now.”

Zhulan pointed at the box, ”Yes, I bought some for both her and Yu Yi. They each got a pair of matching little bracelets.”

Xue Han hugged the boxes, ”Mother, I’ll head back now.”

”Alright.”
