Transmigration: The Evil Mother-In-Law Is Actually Innocent!

Chapter 804: Chapter 804 Helping to Speak

Hu Xia dared not tarry any longer, as his unannounced visit today had already been a disturbance, ”Yes, this official takes his leave.”

Just then, Ming Teng’s voice came from outside the door. The boy had run in like a gust of wind, as if someone were chasing him, and once inside, he froze, ”Grand, Grandfather.”

Zhou Shuren smiled, ”You’re not studying in the study room, running around all over the place, where are your manners?”

Ming Teng thought to himself that he was done for. He had run because he had angered Ming Rui, and when he saw light in the hall, he had run over, ”Grandfather, your grandson was wrong.”

Zhou Mingyun knew there were guests, so he had followed as well, ”Grandfather.”

Zhou Shuren glared at Ming Teng and said to Hu Xia, ”My grandson is mischievous, making you witness such a farce.”

Hu Xia certainly didn’t dare to agree with the statement. Even though Zhou Shuren’s tone was cheerful, he wasn’t really angry, ”The young master is just lively.”

Zhou Mingyun had already noticed Gu Liufeng, ”Liufeng?”

Zhou Shuren asked, ”Do you know each other?”

Zhou Mingyun said, ”Yes, the grandson and Liufeng are both in Class A.”

During the first test, Liufeng had ranked just ahead of him.

Zhou Shuren stroked his beard, ”What a coincidence.”

Gu Liufeng was not surprised to see Zhou Mingyun; in the Academy, the backgrounds of individuals like Zhou Mingyun were no secret. These days, the Academy had seen an increase in transferred students, among them, the eldest and second grandsons from the Ning Duke Residence.

Gu Liufeng said, ”Mingyun.”

Zhou Mingyun was not close to Gu Liufeng, mainly because there were always people surrounding him, mostly the children of noble families or officials. He did want to befriend Liufeng, but he wasn’t an ignorant student. He was very clear that approaching Liufeng too much would only alienate Liufeng.

Zhou Mingyun smiled and nodded to his grandfather, ”Grandfather, this Gu Liufeng is highly learned. When your grandson encounters something he doesn’t understand, Liufeng never hoards his knowledge. I greatly admire him for that.”

Gu Liufeng’s eyes flickered slightly, feeling a touch of warmth. He knew that he had only explained something to Zhou Mingyun once and had lent him his own answered test paper once.

What Zhou Mingyun had just said was also to help him; he must have guessed something upon seeing the apology gift on the table.

Zhou Shuren looked at his grandson; his grandson wasn’t one to give away favors blindly. It seemed that there must be something about Liufeng that his eldest grandson appreciated. He reached for his waist and felt awkward; after returning home, he liked to dress comfortably and had already removed his Jade Pendant, wearing nothing at his waist.

Zhou Shuren glanced at his eldest grandson’s waist, then shifted his gaze and looked at Ming Teng. The boy could make a ruckus. He beckoned, ”Ming Teng, come here.”

Ming Teng felt a chill up his back, ”Grandfather.”

Zhou Shuren waited for Ming Teng to come over, deftly took the Jade Pendant hanging at Ming Teng’s waist, and smilingly gestured to Gu Liufeng, ”You and Mingyun are classmates. For your first visit, take this Jade Pendant as a meeting gift.”

Gu Liufeng was somewhat bewildered; he truly didn’t know whether he should accept it. This meeting gift, by the time he came to his senses, was already in his hand.

Zhou Mingyun saw Liufeng looking at him and tugged at the corner of his mouth. Fortunately, his grandfather hadn’t taken his Jade Pendant. Watching his younger brother turn pale, he thought this was to be expected. The Jade Pendants he and Ming Teng had received were birthday gifts from their fourth aunt, and both he and Ming Teng were very fond of them. For the usually stingy Ming Teng, today’s loss seemed quite substantial.

Mr. Hu walked out of the Zhou residence in a daze and stood outside the grand entrance of the Zhou residence, ”Did Zhou Shuren just give you a meeting gift?”

Gu Liufeng’s lips carried a smile, ”Yes.”

Such a meeting gift from Zhou Shuren was indeed unexpected.

Hu Xia looked at the Jade Pendant in his nephew’s hand, took it over for a closer look. The Jade Pendant was no cheap trinket; indeed, what a Zhou family son wore would not be inexpensive. Now, who didn’t know that the Ning Duke Residence had given a large fortune to the Zhou family? The Zhou family was quite rich in Silver.

Hu Xia, ”You and Zhou Shuren’s grandson are in the same Academy, and even in the same class?”

”Yes.”

Hu Xia felt that he had paid too little attention to his nephew, and had neglected such an important matter, he patted his nephew’s shoulder, ”You cherish the opportunity well, Uncle didn’t have your luck, but Uncle also wants to warn you, don’t scheme or it will backfire, you must treat others with sincerity.”

As a man as formidable as Mr. Zhou, his grandson must surpass the preceding generation, he didn’t grow too many scheming brains, otherwise, he wouldn’t work so diligently without complaint, only hoping his nephew would take the advice to heart.

Gu Liufeng clenched the Jade Pendant, ”I will certainly keep this in mind.”

At the Zhou Residence, Zhou Shuren dismissed Ming Teng and kept Mingyun behind to ask, ”You spoke up today, and Grandfather doesn’t stop you from associating with Gu Liufeng, there are indeed some merits about him from which you can learn.”

Mingyun furrowed his brows, ”Grandfather, please enlighten your grandson.”

Zhou Shuren curled his lips, ”Understanding the times and knowing when to hold back, these two points are what you need to learn.”

The child Mingyun was too compliant, no, rather, both he and Zhulan had made the grandsons of the Zhou family too compliant, now having a reference was good.

Mingyun understood, ”Grandson comprehends.”

In the study, Ming Teng lay despondently on the desk, ”Wuu, my Jade Pendant, my most beloved Jade Pendant is gone.”

Ming Rui felt relieved, as he ground ink he said, ”Serves you right.”

Ming Teng glared, ”Aren’t you brothers anymore?”

”No.”

Ming Teng, ”....”

In the main courtyard, Zhulan saw Zhou Shuren take out a Jade Pendant and couldn’t help but laugh, ”I thought you wouldn’t return it to Ming Teng!”

”Indeed, the boy needs to be taught a lesson, he’s still not steady.”

”Ming Teng’s nature is inherent, he has already changed a lot.”

Zhou Shuren knew it was innate temperament too, otherwise, he wouldn’t have let Ming Teng off so easily, he handed over the Jade Pendant to Zhulan, ”This Jade Pendant, give it to him tomorrow morning.”

Zhulan’s eyes curved, among the grandsons, Zhou Shuren valued Mingyun for being the eldest grandson, favored Ming Hui because Ming Hui looked like her, but truly in his heart, Zhou Shuren loved Ming Teng, despite the boy’s rambunctiousness, it was his vitality that was most attractive.

Zhulan received the Jade Pendant, this one was slightly better than the one Ming Teng was wearing, but not by much, Zhou Shuren still remembered to be fair.

At the Ning Duke Residence, Ning Xu sat in the courtyard, upon seeing his son return, he waved happily, ”Come, join me in finishing this game of chess.”

Rongchuan walked over and sat down, the chess game was at a stalemate, ”Father, are you playing chess alone?”

”Ah, it was a habit I developed a long time ago, I used to not like these things, preferring the thrill of wielding swords and spears instead. Later, in order to grasp the whole situation, I slowly learned to play chess. I actually have some talent, and day after day, every day I would play a game on my own, and that’s how I achieved today’s skills in chess.”

Rongchuan felt he had been diligent, but when compared to his father, he still fell short, ”Father, you have my admiration, I still have much to learn from you.”

Ning Xu felt somewhat elated; he was guiding his son, and he too had a son to instruct. Grinning, he recalled how before it was Zhou Shuren who did the teaching, but in the future, it would be his turn to teach his son.

After the chess game, seeing his father in good spirits, Rongchuan spoke up, ”Father, I don’t want to marry this winter.”

The tea in Ning Xu’s mouth suddenly tasted unpleasant, had his trip to the Zhou Residence changed his mind, ”Why?”

Rongchuan lifted his head, ”I want to give Xue Han the best, and she is young, it’s no issue for me to wait another year.”

Ning Xu’s heart ached; his son was always considering his in-laws, ”Are you certain?”

Rongchuan had made up his mind in the Zhou Residence, ”Yes, your son is certain.”
