Transmigration: The Evil Mother-In-Law Is Actually Innocent!

Chapter 630: Chapter 630: Going Zen _1

Wu Ning’s eyes were slightly red. After the death of her grandparents, she never imagined she would have a blissful marriage and future. Now she had a husband of her own, a generous dowry, and people to support her. She was happy.

Wu Ning’s voice was nasal, ”Auntie, I will not let down your teachings. I will live my life well.”

Life must be managed with care, and what she learned the most at the Zhou household was to love herself and live with intention.

Zhulan’s eyes also turned red with emotion. The girl had grown up and was getting married. After arranging her bridal headdress, she took the red veil and covered Wu Ning with it, patting the somewhat nervous girl gently, ”Don’t be nervous, today is a day of great joy.”

Wu Ning clasped her hands tightly and nodded, while the old matron helped her sit at the bedside and wait. She waited for her husband to come and escort her home. Her marriage had faced many twists and turns, and her heart had been tormented. Finally, it was all coming to an end.

Liu Ya quickly arrived, and Zhulan also heard the sound of the musical procession. The bridal escort had arrived, and He Shu had come to take Wu Ning back to perform the wedding ceremony. If they hurried, they could arrive by noon.

Zhulan and Zhou Shuren sat in the hall and accepted the bows of He Shu and Wu Ning.

Zhou Shuren, who always had a smile, now wore a rare serious expression as he looked at He Shu, ”Wu girl was raised in the Zhou residence, so she is a daughter of the Zhou family. If you mistreat her, I, as an official, will hold you accountable.”

He Shu responded respectfully, ”This nephew will bear this in mind.”

Zhou Shuren then looked at Wu Ning, the girl he had hardly paid attention to, mostly hearing about her through Zhulan. She was still a child, and yet she was getting married, ”Take good care of yourself.”

The tears Wu Ning had been desperately holding back finally fell. In her heart, Uncle and Auntie were like her own parents.

Time waits for no one. He Shu received Wu Ning and left the Zhou residence, the bridal procession following. As they moved farther away, the dowry followed with the bride.

Zhulan stood at the doorway, wiping her eyes with a handkerchief.

Zhou Shuren patted Zhulan’s shoulder, ”Don’t cry.”

Zhulan said, ”These are tears of joy. The young girl has finally found her own happiness, her own home.”

Lady Li wanted to comfort her mother-in-law, but with the public father present, she could only keep her mouth shut, while also feeling a sense of admiration. The kindness of her mother-in-law was genuine. Watching the distant bridal procession, Lady Li couldn’t help but let her own tears fall.

Zhou Shuren, the elder, ”....Why are you crying?”

It’s not as if she had a particular fondness for Wu Ning. Lady Li’s straightforward personality was different from Wu Ning’s; in truth, she really didn’t care for her much, only pitying the girl for her hard life.

Lady Li, wiping away tears, ”It made me think of our daughter getting married one day. I can’t think about it anymore; the more I think, the more I want to cry.”

Zhou Shuren, the elder, also felt a twinge in his nose. He only had one daughter, after all. Having many sons made them less precious, but a daughter was indeed cherished. Yet, seeing Chang Zhi again made him feel conflicted, ”Let’s go back to the courtyard.”

Zhulan watched the bridal procession disappear in the distance, then walked back with Zhou Shuren, ”With Wu Ning married off, it feels like we’re missing quite a few people.”

Zhou Shuren said, ”Indeed, we are short a number of people. You also sent off maids and a young servant for Wu Ning, plus the ones she already had. That’s quite a few less to have around.”

Zhulan looked at the daughters following behind her, knowing that her daughter was the one who felt the loss most keenly. The two girls had lived together, ”If you feel lonely, ask Yushuang or Yu Lu if they’d like to move in with you.”

Xue Han waved her hand, ”Mother, I can manage on my own.”

She was fond of both nieces but couldn’t live with them. Now the residence was in balance, and she didn’t want to disrupt it.

Back at the main courtyard, Zhulan mused absently, ”Do you think I’m getting old? The older I get, the more sentimental and reluctant I become.”

Zhou Shuren replied, ”It’s just that you’ve fully integrated into this era, and every person has a place in your heart.”

It is because she cares that she worries and keeps them in her thoughts.

Zhulan tugged at her own face, ”I’ve aged, I’ve aged.”

She felt that if she could really return to modern times after she passed away in ancient times, her mindset would definitely be very Zen.

Zhou Shuren couldn’t resist touching his own face. Zhulan put a lot of thought into taking care of herself and aged relatively slower. He was the one who was aging faster, which was frustrating!

Inside the imperial palace in the capital, the Emperor teased his granddaughter who was sitting and playing, while watching the Imperial Physician take the pulse. After the examination, he asked, ”Did you find anything?”

The Imperial Physician replied, ”This type of incense won’t affect the child. This servant didn’t find any abnormalities.”

The Empress sighed in relief, ”Alright, you may leave.”

After the Imperial Physician left, the Empress picked up her granddaughter. She had carefully nurtured the girl, who, apart from the Crown Prince’s eldest son, was second to none. ”This was my oversight.”

She had only focused on using the enemy’s plan against them but forgot that her granddaughter was also in the palace, causing the little girl to fuss all night.

The Emperor’s expression was somber, ”The rats in the harem haven’t all been caught yet.”

The Empress patted her somewhat sleepy granddaughter. ”Those few are hidden too deep. Over the years, I have also followed some leads, but they were all just borrowed knives.”

The Emperor understood what the Empress meant; she was saying that other concubines had been used to do the deed. ”You also smelled the incense. Did you have a dream?”

The Empress hesitated, but still answered, ”I did, but this time the dream was different. I dreamed of Big Brother.”

The Emperor fell silent, and the Empress did not speak further, leaving them in a wordless face-off.

At the He family in Jinzhou Province, the bridal procession entered the courtyard, and the eyes of watching relatives and friends were on the dowry – from the earthen bricks representing fields and shops, they calculated the amount of Silver the bride brought.

The dowry was indeed generous, including shops, manors, fields, and houses, along with fabrics and more, prompting various discussions among the guests.

He Shu’s uncles and cousins were all smiles. Initially, some were dissatisfied with marrying a woman of poor reputation, but since a prestigious mediator had introduced them, and her background wasn’t bad, and their birthdays matched well, the match was considered a good one, dispelling their misgivings.

Now that they saw the dowry, the He family were all delighted. Once she married into the family, all her wealth would belong to the He descendants. It’s true that despite the He family’s long-standing heritage, what they had preserved was mostly books. They weren’t particularly affluent in terms of Silver, which was also related to the He family descendants’ love of books – any Silver they had would be spent on more books.

The wedding was solemnized with a bowing ceremony, followed by a feast.

Wu Yong and Wu Ting were Scholars, and Zhou’s second son and Zhao’s wife also came, representing the Zhou family. The older Zhou brother and his wife were supposed to come, but they were tied up with urgent matters.

Zhao’s wife accompanied Wu Ning, surveying the bridal chamber. ”The He family has really put effort into this.”

Wu Ning was extremely nervous. Having performed the rituals, she was now part of the He family, ”Sister-in-law, I’m a bit scared.”

Zhao’s wife patted Wu Ning’s hand, ”Don’t be afraid, this day comes sooner or later.”

Wu Ning blushed and did not dare to make a sound.

Zhao’s wife heard the door opening, and a nanny entered, carrying two bowls of boiled dumplings. ”These are what the groom prepared for the miss.”

Zhao’s wife felt reassured. He Shu was considerate, which was good, as he knew how to care for others.

In the Jinzhou Residence, Zhulan and Zhou Shuren were preparing for a nap when Chang Zhi ran over in a panic, ”Mother, please come look at Su Xuan, her stomach is terribly active.”

He was truly frightened. His heart was pounding as if it would burst out; the movements in the stomach were like a battle, and he was really afraid it would burst through Su Xuan’s belly.

Zhulan immediately sat up so quickly she almost strained her back. ”You go and call the doctor.”
