Transmigration: The Evil Mother-In-Law Is Actually Innocent!

Chapter 416: Chapter 416 Having a Goal Makes a Difference_1

Zhou Shuren caressed Zhulan’s belly, thinking it was good that the child had come. With the child around, Zhulan and he would strive to live, to live as long as possible. They wanted to see their child get married and have children of their own, and to provide support. In ancient times, the importance of the backing from one’s parents was most vividly demonstrated—so long as the maternal family was powerful, the husband’s family had no choice but to treat their daughter well. If it was a boy, he would teach him carefully. Their child, he was sure, would be the best.

Zhou Shuren felt a change, a complete change. Everything he had previously done had been quite casual. Truthfully, his drive to pursue life had only been to ensure a better survival and incidentally to prepare a future for the few children they had taken in.

But now, he felt fully alive, filled with fighting spirit. Hmm, some of the old plans could be changed.

In the main courtyard, the two who were about to become parents for the first time chuckled foolishly, and within a moment’s time began discussing what to name the child.

In the first wife’s chambers, Lady Li nearly failed to hold onto her son securely upon hearing the news, but thankfully Juan Hua caught him quickly. The child, frightened, started to cry loudly, and both Lady Li and Zhou Shuren came back to their senses.

Seeing that the child was unharmed, Lady Li harshly slapped her own hand. She had been startled severely, almost dropping her son. With the child still crying, her heart ached, and she gestured for Juan Hua to take him outside for a walk.

Once Juan Hua had walked away with the child, Lady Li exclaimed, ”Head of the family, is mother pregnant?”

The shock was too great, but then she thought that indeed, it was about time. The eunuch and the steward had been so affectionate; she had even wondered if they did not want more children when there had been no news for so many years!

Lady Li considered that her second aunt had also given birth again in her forties and had seen nothing unusual about that. There were many such cases in the village, but there were also many who died giving birth.

Lady Li’s heart rose in trepidation once again, but then she thought that the Zhou family could afford a doctor and lacked for nothing in the way of precious medicine. There should be nothing to worry about!

Zhou Shuren dumbly said, ”Indeed, we will soon have a little brother or sister.”

After speaking, Zhou Shuren felt a twinge in his teeth. How old was he? In a few years, his eldest son would be ready for betrothal, and here he was, about to become a brother again. Great, the father was really mighty now.

Lady Li and Zhou Shuren exchanged glances, both sighing. Lady Li sighed that she and her son were out of favor, while her eldest son and grandson were their lifeblood.

In the third wife’s room, Lady Dong’s mouth twitched. Mother-in-law was pregnant? Her own mother had been in her thirties when she had given birth to her. Mother-in-law was formidable!

The thought of having a milk-scented little brother-in-law or sister-in-law in a year made Lady Dong sour—she hadn’t even consummated her marriage yet!

Chang Lian likewise looked heavenward, speechless. He had thought that, given the old man’s disdain for them, he had had enough of children. But no, this was truly unexpected.

Xue Han, being a girl and of age, not only managed the household but was knowledgeable about many things. She was concerned about her mother’s health; she still remembered how ill her mother had been a few years back.

At breakfast, Zhulan enjoyed everyone’s discreet glances, all directed at her belly. Although the looks were subtle, she still felt that everyone was watching.

Lady Li dared not lean close to her mother-in-law anymore. Her own weight had returned and was even plumper than before. She feared bumping into her mother-in-law’s belly and couldn’t help but keep a little distance, as the eunuch’s gaze was too frightening, as if she’d be thrown out if she dared to get too close.

Despite being pleased deep inside, seeing all the children look at her made Zhulan’s old face turn red. Her psychological age was over thirty, but her body was forty, and to be pregnant at this time was indeed unconventional. As she thought about it, her ears reddened, and her head seemed to emit steam.

Zhou Shuren coughed, ”Alright, let’s eat.”

At Zhou Shuren’s word, the Zhou family dared not look anymore and lowered their heads to eat.

After breakfast, Zhou Shuren walked away with a spring in his step. Anyone could see that his mood was exceptionally good, and he even seemed to be waiting for others to ask him about it.

Mr. Chen did not want to take the bait. He had been too badly tricked by Lord Zhou in the past two years, who had conned numerous books from his collection. He definitely wouldn’t ask, and indifferently went on his way.

Mr. He actually wanted to ask, but experiences suggested it wouldn’t end well. Why hadn’t his face regained its normal color? All thanks to Lord Zhou, so after nodding in acknowledgment, Mr. He went off to get busy.

Zhou Shuren, ”....”

No, don’t hold back, he really wasn’t planning on tricking anyone today, he truly had good news!

At the Zhou family, Zhulan sent Liu Ya to her family’s home to inform them. Zhulan said it with a blush; she didn’t know what her family would think of her!

Xue Han carefully touched her mother’s belly, ”Mother, are you really not feeling unwell?”

Zhulan shook her head, ”No, mother feels excellent. Just look at how much mother had for breakfast.”

Two bowls of porridge, one bun, and a bowl of egg custard.

Wu Ning looked at the list of things a pregnant woman should avoid written by the doctor and saw crabs, ”Aunt, we just ate crabs, are you really alright?”

Xue Han became anxious, ”Mother?”

Zhulan touched her belly, smiling at Xue Han, ”Your second sister-in-law felt nauseous just when mother did, and then it passed after eating a few bites. If there was something wrong, the reaction would have come sooner.”

Xue Han and Wu Ning were relieved upon hearing this, and Xue Han smiled, ”Then we should thank the second sister-in-law.”

Zhulan curled her mouth in amusement; indeed, they should thank Lady Zhao. Lady Zhao and the second son’s scheming hadn’t stopped, ”Liu Ya, have Steward Ding send someone to Chuanzhou Province to tell your second master the good news.”

This news should finally quiet down the couple from the second wife’s chambers, and whatever their child turned out to be like, didn’t matter to her. She and Zhou Shuren had their own child now. Alright, even if they didn’t have their own, she wouldn’t let the second son and his wife return just for the child’s sake.
