Flash Marriage: He is a Wife-pampering Addict

Chapter 535: 534 Reciprocity

“I wonder how much Shen Yuting knows about Jiang Liu’s past.”

Gu Kai’s eyebrows slightly furrowed. Hearing this, Wen Ran’s gaze flickered a bit and she softly spoke, “I think, even if Sister Ting is unaware of the relationship between Jiang Liu and Cheng Jia, she should at least know something about Jiang Liu.”

In Wen Ran’s mind, Shen Yuting was not a foolish woman. If she was with Jiang Liu for so long, she would remain logical, even if she was ‘fooled’ by Jiang Liu’s appearance. After all, deep down, he wasn’t her true love.

It is said that women are foolish when in love, but that only happens when one is truly emotionally invested. Shen Yuting had only been with Jiang Liu for a while and couldn’t possibly have had deep feelings for him from the start.

She remembered Gu Kai mentioning earlier that Shen Yuting had begun dating Jiang Liu probably after New Year – not too long since she confessed to Mo Xiuchen.

Still immersed in the sorrow of her rejected confession…

Mo Xiuchen agreed with Wen Ran’s viewpoint, “Ah Kai, if you’re really concerned about Sister Ting being deceived, you should confront Jiang Liu. If he really is unreliable, then tell Yuting.”

In the end, a relationship is a matter between two people.

Shen Yuting had changed a lot in the past few days, which probably had to do with Jiang Liu. Mo Xiuchen thought it was good that she was trying to date other men. At the very least, he wouldn’t have to worry about her still having feelings for him.

Gu Kai nodded and nonchalantly said, “There’s nothing else we can do.”

“By the way, I remembered some good news to tell you.”

Something seemed to cross Mo Xiuchen’s mind. His sexy lips curving into a hook, he announced in a cheerful tone.

Gu Kai squinted at him, “What good news?”

“Wu Tianyi was arrested by the police in City C this morning. He’ll be sent back to G City in the next couple of days. Perhaps, we can get some clues about Fu Jingyi from him.”

Hearing that, Gu Kai was taken aback and exclaimed with some excitement, “Really? Wu Tianyi has finally been caught?”

Mo Xiuchen responded with certainty, “Absolutely, that’s why I came to bring you this good news. Now that I’ve given you good news, wouldn’t it be fair for you to return the favor and tell me about the results of the medical examination?”

“If the results were out, don’t you think I’d tell you?”

Gu Kai’s face changed instantly, and he stared at Mo Xiuchen in displeasure.

Mo Xiuchen remained unfazed, raising a handsome eyebrow as he casually said, “I find it strange. I took Chinese medicines for several years before and you never told me that they had a toxic element. This time, I’ve only been taking them for three months and you’ve got me doing an examination. Plus, you said it was Ranran’s idea. Don’t you want me to donate blood?”

By the end, Mo Xiuchen turned to look at Wen Ran. She felt her heart leap as his deep gaze fixated on her, and she bit her lip without uttering a word.

Gu Kai’s expression shifted a bit and he scoffed, “Yes, I did want you to donate blood. What are you going to do about it? Your blood was drawn, and it’s too late for complaints now. Or do you want me to find you a matching blood type to transfuse back into your body?”

“Ranran, you see your brother, how did a doctor turned rogue?”

Mo Xiuchen didn’t expect Gu Kai to not only fail to offer a counterargument but also confirm his suspicion. A hint of sharpness flashed in his eyes as he turned to Wen Ran, “I need to use the restroom for a moment.”

Wen ran didn’t know how to referee between the two, so the best course of action was to avoid the situation.

Not waiting for Mo Xiuchen or Gu Kai to reply, she made her escape from the office.

As the sound of footfalls receded outside, Mo Xiuchen straightened up and turned his sharp gaze to Gu Kai, stating solemnly, “Ah Kai, stop hiding it. I know the test results are out.”

“I’m not hiding anything from you.”

Gu Kai denied, fiddling with his fingers, not prepared to accept anything.

Mo Xiuchen chortled frigidly, “Ah Kai, the more you hold back the results, the more it confirms my speculations. I just want to know — does Ranran know the results?”

“No…”

Gu Kai had uttered the word ‘no’ but instantly cut himself off.

Mo Xiuchen knew the answer already. He stared at Gu Kai’s uncomfortable handsome face replying to his unspoken thought, “If you’re not telling me the results, it can only mean that they’re not good. I don’t understand medical jargon, and I certainly don’t understand the ‘virus’ that Fu Jingyi planted in Ranran’s body—but one thing is very clear.”

His words came out slow, in a way that seemed deliberate and made Gu Kai lose his composure.

“Is it that if Ranran and I stay together, the virus will transmit to me, or even further — that I can help expel the ‘toxin’ from Ranran?”

Gu Kai’s handsome face furrowed in worry.

Last night, he was able to hide it because it was just over the phone. But now, under the sharp gaze of Mo Xiuchen, he felt as though he was under an X-ray, with nowhere to hide.

“Ah Kai, you can continue to keep it from me, hopefully you won’t have to inform Ranran at all.”

Seeing Gu Kai silent with his lips tightly sealed, Mo Xiuchen couldn’t help but get a little annoyed.

“That’s right, your assumption is correct. The reason why Ranran insisted on divorcing you is that she can’t be with you and the longer you stay together, the worse it would be. You’ve been together for not quite half a year—it’s not long. But if you stay together for half a year more…”

Gu Kai didn’t finish the sentence; just his serious eyes made the atmosphere in the office stifling.

Although he had guessed it, hearing Gu Kai say it caused Mo Xiuchen’s heart to sink heavily.

A haze passed over his eyes and his thin lips formed a firm straight line. He was silent for a while before he asked, “Does this mean the virus in Ranran’s body can transfer to me…”

“Xiuchen, I know what you’re considering, but please let it go. I promise, if you relentlessly force Ranran to stay with you, offering your own health in exchange for hers, you’ll live to regret it.”

Gu Kai was earnest. Ever since Ranran adamantly insisted on divorcing Mo Xiuchen, it was clear that she would rather die than let him get hurt. No matter what Mo Xiuchen does, it will be useless.

Mo Xiuchen paled a little.

Of course, he knew Gu Kai wasn’t trying to scare him but speaking the truth.

But how could he just stand by and watch as the woman he loved is slowly ravaged by the virus, degrading bit by bit to the point where she will finally forget who she even is?

“Don’t feel bad. My father is working on it and perhaps very soon there will be a cure for Ranran’s illness, ridding her body of the virus.”

Seeing Mo Xiuchen like this, Gu Kai didn’t have the heart to be stern anymore.

“No matter when, don’t ever consider using your own health to rid Ranran of the virus. All you need to do is keep her by your side, keep her happy, and leave the rest to my father and me.”

Gu Kai was worried that if Mo Xiuchen pressured too much, Ranran might be provoked into doing something drastic.

Her agreeing to stay by his side was already the best outcome for the moment.
