Chapter 2047: I’m Not An Unreasonable Person

“Little friend, thank you for assisting in acquiring this rare treasure. I and my clan will be grateful.” The gray-haired beastman bowed humbly in front of Grey as Void helped him translate.

Grey took a glance at the gray-haired beastman and could not help but feel odd about his gratitude. Given the fact that Grey forcefully took their treasure before agreeing to assist them, they would have been in fire straits if Grey had opted to leave at all costs. Now wanting to think too deeply about it, Grey replied, “I was only repaying you for the goodwill you gave me.”

The gray-haired beastman chuckled and waved his hands as if saying it was not a big deal.

Seeing the way the gray-haired beastman was acting, Grey decided it was time to leave, just as he was about to inform him of their departure, the gray-haired beastman spoke once again with Void translating.

“My little friend, you see, I can tell that you’re not from around here.” The gray-haired beastman had a cunning and hopeful look in his eyes as he spoke, “So I have an offer for you, given yours and my clan’s strength, I believe we can make the most of our meeting and do more deals.”

“Since you’re a foreigner, it obviously means you do not know the places that can be regarded as dangerous, nor can you know the places that have the real good treasures like this one. I believe if we work together, we will be able to grow even greater than expected.”

Grey raised a brow as he heard Void translating the gray-haired beastman’s words. He did not expect the gray-haired beastman would bring up such an offer, and the more he thought about it, the more he felt it was too good to be true. Of course, he knew the gray-haired beastman would never think of attacking him, but what if they teamed up with another clan after leading him to the place of a treasure and then tried to kill him?

As if sensing Grey’s skepticism, the gray-haired beastman continued, “I can assure you that this is not a trap but an honest offer from an old fellow who’s concerned about the future of my clansmen. I know a lot of places where we can get treasures, it’s just that I’m not strong enough to claim it. Having to fight a war with another clan that’s on equal strength with ours was stupid, so I never thought about trying to take those treasures. But now, with your help, I believe we will be able to defeat them just as easily as we did to the Tempest Fang Clan.”

Grey tilted his head to look at the gray-haired beastman who was doing his best to convince him to work with him, after a short silence, he asked, “Won’t you draw public hatred if you attack multiple clans?”

It would be okay if it was only one or two clans, but from what the gray-haired beastman was implying, there were more than just two clans that he had set his sights on, and now that he has someone like Grey, he wanted to capitalize on it. Of course, there was also the thought of him wanting to betray Grey too.

“You don’t have to worry about public outrage, we beastpeople only care about strength. And we are also very hostile towards other clans, so it’s almost impossible for two clans to form an alliance.” The gray-haired beastman explained.

“When they have a common enemy, then the chances of them uniting is very high.” Grey reiterated.

It was normal for these clans to all have bad blood with each other, but the moment they all sense any form of existential threat, they would group up without hesitation. The same thing happened with humans in the Aurora Continent, most families and factions were enemies, in fact, they still are, but at the threat of being wiped out, they ensured to put that by the side and focus on the enemy first.

The gray-haired beastman gave a dry laugh before saying, “I understand your worries little friend, but to ensure we can maximize this, we will only be attacking three more clans, and the distance between these clans to here is quite far. Also, my clan has some form of enmity with these clans given we are all Lightning Elementalists, so we’re not only going for the treasure, but also to get some revenge for myself and my clan.”

Hearing this, Grey took a glance at the lava pool and quickly realized that the reason the gray-haired beastman came here was not just because there was a treasure here, but because they were lifelong enemies. He could not help but click his tongue at the fact that he was used to aid another person’s revenge without his knowledge.

Grey did not speak, keeping quiet as he assessed his options. They had the option of going in search of treasures on their own, and although they would definitely find treasures, there was also the chance that they might accidentally trespass into a place that could cost their lives.

He took a glance at his friends to seek their opinion. Alice and Reynolds nodded, both wanting to go. Klaus was the only one who had an odd expression. He nodded regardless, after all, this was something that would be beneficial to everyone except him, and he would not want to be the reason the others did not grow stronger.

“I can agree to your offer, but I have some conditions.” Grey said to the gray-haired beastman.

When the gray-haired beastman heard this, his expression was a little complicated. He did not think Grey would have conditions before agreeing, swallowing hard, he asked, “What conditions do you have little friend, as long as it’s not too excessive we can agree to it.”

Grey chuckled and said, “Don’t worry clan leader, I’m not an unreasonable person, I still have a sense of propriety.”

Hearing his chuckle, the gray-haired beastman felt a bad premonition.
