Chapter 1840 Thin Line Between Bravery And Foolishness

Not having the intention to fight with these people, he took some steps forward and said calmly, ”I know what you want. But I can not just hand over something I spent so much effort to obtain to you without compensation.”

”Oh.” Lord Everard did not expect Grey to say something like this.

The Eighth stage Sovereign who blocked Greyʼs path sneered with a playful laugh, ”Which hole did this brat crawl out from? To think you believe you can negotiate with Lord Everard.”

The others from the Twilight Faction burst out laughing.

At this time, the crowd had already given them their distance, all watching what was happening with interest. No one believed that after someone had been beheaded, there would be someone bold enough to stand against the Twilight Faction, someone so young no less.

From the conversation, they all understood what was happening. The young man seemed to have gotten his hands on something Lord Everard had his eyes on, and now he was about to be robbed. Given the conduct of those from the Twilight Faction, the crowd didnʼt think Grey would be able to leave this place with his life even if he handed over all his belongings after publicly going against Lord Everard like this.

Most of those in the crowd held this mindset, but not all of them. There were a few with discerning eyes who could tell that Grey obviously didnʼt seem deterred by the prestige of the Twilight Faction, which meant only one thing, his background isnʼt ordinary either. But who was bold enough to publicly go against the Twilight Faction without fear?

Grey didnʼt even spare the Eighth stage Sovereign a glance, his eyes not moving from Lord Everard. This infuriated the Eighth stage Sovereign, but he did not attack since he noticed Lord Everard seems to want to speak with Grey.

Lord Everard on the other hand had an amused smile on, to be honest, he was quite impressed by Grey at first, but looking at it now, he realized that Grey wasnʼt bold, rather, he was foolish.

”The saying that thereʼs a thin line between bravery and foolishness can not be more true.” The young man by Lord Everardʼs side who had not said a word all this while spoke, it seems he also has the same thoughts as Lord Everard. He had been observing Grey since they made their appearance, but the latter had not even spared him a glance. Being ignored angered him, hence the reason he tried to use his words to get to Grey.

Grey finally took a glance at him, the look was short, but the young man felt chills all over his body, all his hair standing on edge. It was as if a single look from Grey was enough to end his life. This feeling disappeared after he felt a hand on his shoulder. Turning his head, he noticed Lord Everard still had his eyes on Grey even though his palm was placed on his shoulder. Even without looking at him, Lord Everard knew that he was impacted by Greyʼs mere look.

He dropped his head only to realize that his knees had almost given up on him while his back was soaked. He didnʼt need Lord Everard to tell him before he knew that if Grey wanted him dead, it would be as easy as lifting a finger. The feeling he got from Grey is the same as the ones he gets when facing experts of Lord Everardʼs level and above. One has to know that Lord Everard was a Ninth stage Sovereign while Grey was only a Seventh stage Sovereign.

ʼHowʼs that possible?ʼ He suddenly started to have a bad premonition about todayʼs stop.

”What do you want in exchange for it?” Lord Everard pretended nothing happened just now, but internally he was shocked. He knew the aptitude and mentality of the young man beside him, yet a single casual glance from Grey almost crumbled him. Only experts at his level or at the Peak of the Sovereign Plane will be able to do such a thing effortlessly. He could not help but reevaluate Grey. If Grey possessed such abilities while he was only a Seventh stage Sovereign, then his strength will be unfathomable once he breaks through to the Eighth stage, much less the Ninth stage.

ʼHe has to die.ʼ Lord Everard concluded internally. Greyʼs potential frightened him. As long as Grey was allowed to grow, then the position of strongest person will undoubtedly be in peril. The only reason he could throw his weight around even in the presence of some Peak Sovereigns is because of the expert they had in the Faction. If someone dethroned their expert, then whatever Faction or Family that person originated from will be the leading force in the world. He could not bring himself to accept such a reality.

After some thoughts, Grey pointed at the Magical Beasts, ”I want them.”

Since he could not leave without handing over the treasure, he did not mind using it in a trade for the Magical Beasts.

Lord Everard was once again taken aback when he heard Greyʼs request, anyone in Greyʼs position will demand something exorbitant given how valuable the treasure in his hands were. After a second thought, he realized this was an impossible request. These Magical Beasts were never before seen creatures and he had already sent word back to the Faction about them. If he returned without them, it would be difficult for him. Of course, the thought of handing them to Grey never crossed his mind, after all, to him, Grey was no different from a dead man.

”Little Friend, how about this? Follow us back to the Twilight Faction and anything can be discussed.” The only reason he was still holding back from attacking was that after Greyʼs little stunt with the young man, he understood that Grey might be just as strange as Godric warned. If he made a mistake and such an enemy is allowed to grow, he would not be able to live the rest of his life in peace. His best bet now was to ensure he took Grey back to the Faction, or if he could make a move, kill him instantly.
