My Invincible Defense: Traversing the Endless Worlds

The shock wave struck Olivia’s off-road vehicle, accompanied by a surge of nuclear radiation, and flipped it over. The camouflaged off-road vehicle tumbled like a cardboard box several times before finally coming to a stop, with dangerously high radiation levels spreading in every direction.

Finn’s nuclear rocket launcher had been modified from an M-388 nuclear recoilless gun. Its destructive power had been enhanced, giving it a range of two kilometers and an effective kill radius of three kilometers. So a little friendly fire was only to be expected.

In truth, the original M-388 wasn’t quite as insane as the legends made it sound. As long as the operator took cover from the shock wave and the initial burst of high-energy radiation, the radioactive contamination left afterward was manageable with prompt cleanup.

Finn righted the overturned vehicle with one hand, opened the door, and dragged Olivia out. Blood trickled from a cut on her temple, and she looked weak and listless. The radiation exposure was already damaging her body.

After Finn fed her a bottle of healing potion, Olivia finally perked up. She gazed at the mushroom cloud in the distance, still shaken.

“Master, the next time you fire a nuke, could you warn me first?”

Finn thought for a moment, then took out a Nine Revolutions Resurrection Pill and tossed it into the air. With a swish, he drew his sword, and three streaks of brilliant silver light flashed through the air in an instant. The blade split the bright yellow pill neatly into eight equal pieces. Finn caught all eight pieces on the flat of his blade and offered them to Olivia.

“If you encounter nuclear radiation again, eat one piece. It’ll protect you from the harmful effects.”

“Thank you, Master!”

Olivia’s blue eyes shone with curiosity. She carefully accepted the eight pieces, closed her eyes, and swallowed one. She tucked the remaining seven into an inner pocket.

Fortunately, the off-road vehicle was sturdy enough to survive the crash. The two climbed back inside and continued north. Finn had always preferred working alone, but now that he had a maid, he might as well bring her along.

Olivia could handle repetitive work like clearing out weak enemies, leaving Finn free to focus his energy on more creative work. That was why Olivia now carried a light machine gun on her back. Finn was even considering getting her a Gatling gun.

In the Endless Worlds, plenty of powerful beings enjoyed wading into hordes of weaker foes like unstoppable one-person armies. They would charge into crowds of cannon fodder and mow down whole ranks with every swing, reveling in the thrill of cutting through enemies like grass.

Finn, however, believed that life should be spent maximizing efficiency—doing more creative work and less pointless repetitive labor.

Besides, his cultivation had already reached such heights that ordinary people were little different from ants in his eyes. He wouldn’t get angry because an ant provoked him, nor would he go out of his way to crush one for fun.

That said, Finn would occasionally pour molten aluminum at 660.32°C(1220.58°F) Celsius into an anthill to study its internal structure.

The off-road vehicle sped across the plain scarred by the nuclear blast. Olivia carefully steered around ground zero. She took out an instrument resembling a Geiger counter. The moment she switched it on, it began beeping frantically, its display showing radiation levels far beyond the safe limit.

Olivia had no choice but to turn the vehicle again and drive away from the contaminated area. She gave a wry, helpless smile.

“Master, the radiation has spread too far. We might have to make a very wide detour.”

Finn took the incessantly beeping detector from her and crushed it in one hand. Fragments of its casing and electronic components flew out the window and scattered in the wind.

“There’s no radiation now,” Finn said calmly.

Olivia was secretly dumbfounded. She stopped trying to circle around the area and drove straight north.

“Master, may I ask you something?”

“Go ahead.”

“Where did you pull that nuclear rocket launcher from? And what about those miraculous pills? Your abilities seem to go far beyond anything a mutant can do.”

“It’s a long story. I have an invisible storage space that can hold a large number of items.”

To demonstrate, Finn produced a bottle of Nuka-Cola in his palm.

“What are you going to the Alderon Sea for?” Olivia asked next.

Though Olivia called him Master and the two were ostensibly master and servant, their actual relationship was remarkably equal. Finn had never made any perverted demands of her. Whenever she grew tired from driving, Finn would even take the wheel himself and let her rest. Little gestures like that only made her more smitten with him.

Olivia hoped to use this time alone together to grow closer to him.

After a moment’s thought, Finn answered, “Based on the limited information I have, there’s a mysterious object in the Alderon Sea. It may be a World Nucleus—and that’s the reason I came here.”

“A World Nucleus? What is that?” Olivia asked in surprise.

“It’s too complicated to explain all at once. As long as you stay with me, you’ll understand eventually.”

“Okay.”

Olivia obediently fell silent and asked no more questions.

Ding-da-dong.

A crisp notification sounded from Finn’s pocket. He pulled out his phone and lit up the screen. Someone had sent him a direct interworld message.

The sender was an old acquaintance: Zane-Shawndrew, General of Inspiring Might of the Iron-Blooded Human Supremacy Guard. This was the second message he had sent.

Its contents were the same old routine.

First came the obligatory questions about how Finn had been doing, followed by some transparently insincere concern for his health.

Then came a heartfelt invitation for Finn to join the Iron-Blooded Human Supremacy Guard. They promised to build him a powerful custom mech, along with a beautiful female mechanic, a beautiful female engineer, and a beautiful female logistics specialist.

The message did mention one important detail: they had already established an outpost in this desolate universe. Once Finn finished whatever he was doing, he was welcome to pay them a visit.

They were currently constructing a Myriad Realms Network base station at the outpost. Before long, Finn might finally be able to connect to the Myriad Realms Network.

“We look forward to hearing from you. If you run into any trouble, please call our emergency assistance line,” the message concluded enthusiastically.

The Iron-Blooded Human Supremacy Guard—usually shortened to the Human Supremacy Guard—was a powerful military organization spanning multiple worlds. It had already begun to resemble a nation in its own right.

Its core ideology was human supremacy and the protection of humanity’s interests at all costs. And they truly meant at all costs.

They had launched wars of extermination against nonhuman civilizations and carried out genocidal purges against other races and alien life-forms. Outsiders often condemned them as extreme human supremacists.

Finn couldn’t say whether their beliefs were right or wrong, but he had no interest in joining them. He was a free and unfettered Celestial Sojourner. He might slaughter someone’s entire family in the morning, then spend the afternoon sunbathing on a beach.

Joining a major organization would give him powerful backing, but it would also cost him a great deal of freedom.

The Spacetime Destruction Bureau, which Finn belonged to, was completely different. It was essentially a loose-knit club where Celestial Sojourners exchanged information and banded together for mutual support.

It occasionally issued missions, but accepting them was entirely voluntary. Take one if you feel like it. Ignore it if you don’t.

No one cared either way.
