F1: The Speed Legend

Rustling, bubbling, heated discussions—the noise was completely unstoppable. A myriad of opinions and voices continuously boiled exactly like a volcanic hot spring.

The fervor stretched endlessly, refusing to quiet down even as the bugle call for Qualifying officially sounded. Instead, as the battle curtain slowly rose, the burning adrenaline was comprehensively detonated. Unable to suppress their excitement, the sheer madness radiating from the pores of the fans bled into the air, sweeping the entire world into the storm.

Inside the Mercedes-Benz and Ferrari garages, the entire squad of Premier League giants Chelsea FC was present, getting a close-up view of this year’s British Grand Prix. However, these top-tier superstars, who usually summoned the wind and rain at Stamford Bridge, were completely eclipsed upon arriving at Silverstone, collectively reduced to mere background extras—

The absolute focus was entirely on the track.

It is no exaggeration to say that this was arguably the most suspenseful Grand Prix of the 2019 season so far. The ’Big Three’ finally seemed to be standing on an equal playing field, and even McLaren and Racing Point possessed the muscle to arm-wrestle. Leaving Sunday’s Race aside for a moment, the heavy suspense of Qualifying alone was enough to induce hyperventilation.

Absolutely no one wanted to miss a single second!

Q1, commenced.

Unexpected, yet entirely logical, the competition was exceptionally fierce, particularly among the midfield teams.

Generally speaking, each Qualifying session features two main runs per driver, with each run consisting of an out-lap, a flying lap, and a cool-down lap—three laps in total. In other words, running six laps in Q1, and identically in Q2 and Q3, totaling eighteen laps (including six valid flying laps), had long since become the standard Qualifying protocol.

Yet today, the midfield teams threw caution to the wind. The bayonets-drawn, blood-soaked battle kicked off right in Q1, with drivers aiming for more than just two flying laps—

When Kevin Magnussen became the first to initiate a third flying lap, the paddock didn’t make a huge fuss. Perhaps Magnussen simply wasn’t satisfied with his previous single-lap time and decided to take one more risk, trying to squeeze out enough speed to advance to Q2.

Immediately after, Romain Grosjean hit the track, followed by Pierre Gasly, and then Sebastian Vettel.

By the time Q1 entered its latter half, the circuit remained a hive of chaotic activity, with severe traffic jams bottlenecking multiple sectors.

Gasps of shock erupted one after another. Qualifying had barely begun, and the blades were already drawn! The heavy scent of blood permeated the air!

”The starting straight at Silverstone is incredibly unique. Not only is it short, but it also features a slight incline and a subtle curve. From the fifth row backward, it’s very difficult for the drivers to clearly see the starting lights. This means drivers must rely on the movements of the cars ahead of them to execute their launch. A 0.1-second deficit in reaction time here can be absolutely fatal.”

”And this year at Silverstone, the midfield competition has reached a white-hot zenith, entering an entirely new stratosphere. The intensity of the battle for the points-paying positions is absolutely not inferior to the fight for the podium. In some ways, it carries even more suspense. We generally know which three teams are fighting for the podium, but exactly who will manage to squeeze into the points is a massive unknown. With the sole exception of Williams, absolutely anything is possible.”

”Precisely because of this, the margins separating Q1 and Q2 are incredibly critical. Right now, every single midfield team is emptying their entire arsenal in Q1.”

It wasn’t just the ’Big Three.’ The midfield brawl at the Silverstone circuit was equally spectacular, vastly exceeding expectations. The heavy suspense and relentless climaxes left everyone slamming the table in awe.

Q1 concluded, bringing a mix of surprises and predictable outcomes—

1:25.513. Hamilton topped the timing sheets! No surprise there. 1:25.533. Leclerc in second! A pleasant micro-surprise.

However, the leading pack wasn’t the true highlight of Q1. The real drama unfolded further back.

After completing his third flying lap, George Russell did not enter a cool-down lap. Instead, he immediately rolled into a second consecutive push—his fourth flying lap of Q1—launching a desperate, do-or-die gamble.

Silverstone wasn’t just Hamilton’s home turf; it was also Williams’s home turf, and absolutely Russell’s home turf.

It was glaringly obvious that Russell desperately, fervently desired to deliver a beautiful performance at Silverstone, explicitly aiming to prove himself on home soil and escape the absolute bottom of the grid. However, his fourth flying lap still showed no improvement. Compared to the slowest car at the time—Daniil Kvyat—he was still 1.1 seconds off the pace. There was absolutely zero comparison.

His final, desperate gamble had ultimately been entirely futile. That crushing frustration and profound defeat caused Russell’s focus to momentarily slip, so much so that he completely failed to notice Kai initiating his second flying lap right behind him.

A massive gasp erupted from the Ferrari pit garage, met by the schadenfreude-filled cheers of the Hamilton fanbase across the circuit. Many even gave Russell a thumbs-up in praise; if Russell could inadvertently help Hamilton by knocking Kai out in Q1, he might just become a brand-new national hero.

Encountering this unexpected roadblock, Kai was no longer the inexperienced rookie of last season. His split-second reaction was flawless. He rapidly switched his racing line, cleanly bypassing the Number 63 car, and continued his flying lap, leaving Russell in his wake. Remaining completely unfazed, Kai successfully completed the lap, improving his time.

Nevertheless, F1 is still F1. Kai ultimately barely scraped through Q1 in twelfth place, narrowly advancing to Q2—

The profound relief of the Tifosi sharply contrasted with the bitter disappointment of the home crowd. The intertwining, colliding emotions caused the toxic tension across Silverstone to escalate even further.

Magnussen, Kvyat, Stroll, Russell, and Perez were officially knocked out in Q1.

One Haas, one Toro Rosso, one Racing Point, and the immovably anchored duo of Williams cars were brutally eliminated. The absolute chaos of the midfield brawl was glaringly apparent.

A third of the season had already elapsed, yet Williams still seemed fundamentally incapable of building a functional race car. Forget about the ’Big Three’; they weren’t even invited to the midfield dogfight.

Entering Q2, the exact same dynamic persisted.

The bayonets-drawn, blood-soaked brawl spread everywhere. The midfield teams that had luckily scraped into the second session held absolutely nothing back. Without hesitation, they opted for three flying laps, desperately trying to advance to Q3 at all costs to secure a superior grid position for the launch phase. The sheer intensity of this Qualifying session was arguably even more brutal than Monaco.

By a microscopic margin, Nico Hulkenberg advanced in tenth place, but the gap separating him from Romain Grosjean in fourteenth was a mere 0.189 seconds. In other words, within a time delta of less than two-tenths of a second, five drivers stood balancing on the razor’s edge between heaven and hell. The Q3 cutoff line was vastly more accessible than anyone had imagined.

Suffocating!

One McLaren, one Haas, one Racing Point, and two Alfa Romeos were eliminated in Q2.

This meant the six cars of the ’Big Three,’ along with McLaren’s Lando Norris, Toro Rosso’s Pierre Gasly, and Renault’s Daniel Ricciardo and Nico Hulkenberg, successfully advanced to Q3. In this close-quarters, highly dramatic British Grand Prix Qualifying, they were the elite survivors stepping onto the ultimate stage for the final showdown.

Surprises were everywhere. Whether it was Gasly violently breaking through the blockade, Renault’s low-profile resurgence, or Norris firmly grasping his opportunity in the spotlight, even before the heavyweights drew their swords, the talking points from this Qualifying session were already endless.

However, the absolute biggest surprise was this: Leclerc topped Q2!

Surprise! Utter shock!

The entire paddock erupted in an uproar. One second they were marveling at the suffocating midfield battle, and the next, their attention violently snapped back to the ’Big Three.’

Leclerc, Bottas, and Verstappen occupied the top three spots in Q2. As expected, the chaotic brawl that had characterized the Free Practice sessions was continuing unabated.

In truth, a highly observant technical analyst could immediately spot the critical detail—

1:25.546. Leclerc’s fastest lap that topped Q2 was actually 0.013 seconds slower than his own Q1 time. This was absolutely not an absurd, limit-shattering single-lap pace.

There was no need to panic.

However, viewed from a different perspective: Leclerc’s single-lap pace had regressed, yet he still managed to lead Q2. Did this imply that the performance gap between the ’Big Three’ at Silverstone was... genuinely, terrifyingly narrow? Regardless of whatever smokescreens had been deployed in Free Practice, the three factions were currently operating on an incredibly level playing field in Qualifying.

Therefore—

Was the battle for Pole Position completely, totally open?

Throughout this season, everyone agreed that Mercedes-Benz’s true strength lay in their Race pace, while their ultimate single-lap speed limit in Qualifying wasn’t overwhelmingly dominant. But despite that narrative, with the sole exception of Bahrain, Mercedes-Benz had monopolized every single Pole Position of the season thus far. The W10 displayed terrifying tyranny even in its supposedly ”weaker” domain, and no other chassis had managed to mount a genuine threat.

Ferrari, the only entity theoretically capable of challenging Mercedes-Benz, had steadily lost their razor-sharp Qualifying edge following their first major upgrade package.

Was this dynamic finally about to change at Silverstone?

”From a certain perspective, the British Grand Prix Qualifying is arguably the first truly open competition of the 2019 season.”

”More open than Bahrain?”

”Yes, vastly more open than Bahrain. In Bahrain, Ferrari’s ultimate single-lap speed limit was deeply impressive; it was an entirely different kind of absolute certainty. But Silverstone is different. Ferrari, Mercedes-Benz, Red Bull—and even Renault, yes, I am officially including a fourth team in that list—this is the current landscape. The gap separating the top six cars is entirely contained within half a second. And crucially, we know that absolutely none of them have extracted their absolute maximum limit yet.”

”Wow. Q3 is going to be an absolute crematorium. Every single driver must empty their entire arsenal. So, Martin, where are you placing your bets?”

”David—”

”Alright, I know. Kai. Martin’s answer is universally and perpetually Kai. But my answer is Lewis. At Silverstone, Lewis exists on an entirely different level, operating in a completely different stratosphere. Exactly like Superman arriving from another galaxy. Regardless of the time or the circumstances, Lewis is always the absolute ultimate favorite for the crown.”

”No, David, what I was actually trying to say is that we are broadcasting live globally. Please do not set a terrible example; we absolutely do not participate in illegal gambling.”

Crofty and Brundle effortlessly deployed their trademark, highly synchronized banter, expertly hyping the atmosphere.

However, the situation this time was slightly unique. Q3 didn’t require the commentators to artificially brew the tension; the atmosphere was already escalating rapidly, burning with ferocious intensity.

The hoarse, deafening screams were sweeping across the entire Silverstone circuit exactly like a raging prairie fire. Even the distant city of London seemed to vibrate in resonance. From top to bottom, the entire nation was cheering for Hamilton, desperately yearning to witness the five-time World Champion continue his glorious reign and shatter Alain Prost’s historic victory record.

Cheers and support blanketed the earth. It was a typical, heavily overcast day at Silverstone. The sun was entirely hidden. The monotonous, uniform gray sky looked perfectly identical to yesterday and the day before. It generated a bizarre, time-distorting illusion, leaving everyone guessing whether a torrential downpour would violently erupt in the very next second.

Before the second flying laps of Q3 commenced, Ferrari went about their preparations with highly disciplined, hyper-focused order. It was so deathly silent that the air felt terrifyingly taut—

During the first flying laps that had just concluded, both Mercedes-Benz and Red Bull had aggressively bared their blades.

Bottas: 1:25.093. Provisional P1.

Not only did he secure a dominant lead, but he violently shattered Hamilton’s Q1 benchmark by a massive 0.420 seconds. It was nearly a full second faster than last year’s Pole Position time. Utilizing a performance that absolutely obliterated the Silverstone track record, Bottas seized provisional Pole, instantly elevating the Qualifying battle to an entirely new, terrifying standard.

However, the Mercedes-Benz pit garage did not celebrate. This wasn’t merely because Q3 wasn’t officially over; it was because they firmly, unshakeably believed the W10 possessed the raw capability to breach the 1:24 barrier. If the track temperatures hadn’t been so catastrophically low today, Bottas would have already smashed into the 1:24s. Now, they could only eagerly anticipate the results of the second flying lap.

For Mercedes-Benz, this was a battle exclusively against themselves. Regardless of what Ferrari or Red Bull did, they were going to extract 100% of their potential. The horrific disaster of Austria absolutely could not be repeated.

Hamilton, provisional P2.

Verstappen, provisional P3. His 1:25.483 wasn’t exactly elite, but it easily bypassed Leclerc’s absolute best effort of the day.

Leclerc, provisional P4. His 1:25.616 was somehow even worse than his Q2 time. His pace had steadily deteriorated across the three Qualifying sessions. Logically, after strapping on the red Soft tires, the chassis should have become increasingly faster. But analyzing the current data, it appeared Ferrari’s Q1 performance was their absolute theoretical ceiling. They were fundamentally incapable of extracting any further speed.

Kai was P5. Albon was P6. Although both drivers had improved their single-lap times compared to Q1 and Q2, their rivals had clearly improved at an exponentially faster rate. Because their performance curve wasn’t steep enough, even after narrowing the gap, the deficit to the top three remained glaringly obvious. Let alone Bottas’s terrifying benchmark, Kai was lagging behind Verstappen by over 0.2 seconds.

Currently, the massive gap separating Ferrari and Mercedes-Benz exceeded half a second. It was an almost insurmountable, fatal deficit.

The crushing pressure was glaringly apparent.

Red Bull possessed phenomenal high-speed stability. Mercedes-Benz possessed incredibly aggressive, lethal braking capabilities. Ferrari absolutely wasn’t slow on the straights, but their mid-corner rhythm remained agonizingly hesitant—

The optimal temperature window for their front axle was terrifyingly narrow, and their rear traction was constantly, subtly erratic.

Even Brundle, who typically maintained absolute, unwavering confidence, began to exhibit faint traces of concern. Regardless of what elaborate smokescreens had occurred during Free Practice, the brutal, freezing winds and low temperatures characterizing today’s Qualifying session were undeniably severely crippling Ferrari. Compared to Free Practice 3, the ambient temperature had actually dropped instead of rising.

The situation was deeply, profoundly critical.

In truth, one only needed to look at Leclerc to diagnose the issue. For an elite, raw-talent speed demon like him, he should theoretically have been getting faster and more dialed-in with every single lap. Yet today, across the three Qualifying sessions, he had progressively grown slower. His form was profoundly, disturbingly anomalous.

Brundle let out a soft exhale. Moving forward, the ultimate focus had to remain on Kai. Only he could finally unveil the absolute truth behind Ferrari’s true, overarching pace this weekend.

Simultaneously, sitting strapped inside the cockpit, Kai had already notified Pierre Borreipaire. The radio channel was completely dead silent. He was methodically regulating his breathing and his heartbeat.

From the exact microsecond he set foot on the Silverstone asphalt, absolutely everything was exclusively about Kai’s own execution. It had absolutely nothing to do with Mercedes-Benz or Red Bull, and it didn’t even have anything to do with Leclerc. The SF90, carrying its second massive upgrade package, had finally unlocked a functional operational window. He desperately needed to probe the absolute limits of that window to discover the perfect equilibrium. Using Silverstone as the ultimate launchpad, he intended to sound the bugle for their massive counter-offensive—

It was no longer about ”manufacturing occasional, highly opportunistic threats.” It was about continuously, stably, and permanently overturning Mercedes-Benz to violently shatter the established hierarchy of the championship standings.

Therefore, whether it was Free Practice or Qualifying, compared to a single, isolated lap time, Kai had been obsessively, meticulously searching for his own optimal rhythm. Throughout the entire calendar, there was absolutely no circuit more perfectly suited for this specific task than Silverstone. He desperately required a flawless Qualifying rhythm today, and he would probe for an optimal Race rhythm tomorrow.

One step at a time. Methodically, steadily approaching the target to execute the mission.

With the minor exception of the Russell incident.

But that... was merely an insignificant distraction. Kai instantly reeled in his wandering thoughts, locking back into absolute focus.

At this specific microsecond, Kai wasn’t nervous, and he wasn’t frantic. He didn’t even spare a single ounce of cognitive energy to monitor the second flying laps of the other drivers. He was entirely, utterly immersed in his own zone.

It wasn’t until Pierre Borreipaire’s voice broke the silence, confirming the optimal track window had opened, that Kai finally opened his eyes and slowly, methodically rolled out of the pit garage.

The out-lap. Simultaneously, the warm-up lap.

The tire blankets had only just been removed. The surface temperature was relatively high, but the internal core remained dangerously cold. On a hyper-speed circuit like Silverstone, if the front axle failed to properly ’wake up’ during the out-lap, executing an extreme late-braking maneuver at the end of a massive straight could trigger a catastrophic, unpredictable array of disasters. The driver would possess absolutely zero margin for control. Therefore, the warm-up lap had to be executed flawlessly.

While Kai was still navigating Sector 2, the final results of the drivers completing their second flying laps began broadcasting continuously, repeatedly detonating the Silverstone circuit.

”Alex Albon! 1:25.590!”

”He violently bypasses Leclerc to seize provisional P4, but he ultimately fails to surpass Verstappen! The young British driver’s dream of finally defeating his teammate for the first time this season will have to patiently wait for another day!”

”Max Verstappen! Good god!”

”1:25.276!”

”The Number 33 Red Bull driver has violently elevated his single-lap pace to an entirely new stratosphere! He officially overtakes Hamilton! But he still falls agonizingly short of Bottas! Provisional P2! If the standings remain frozen like this at the end of Qualifying, Red Bull will secure their very first front-row start of the entire season!”

”The brutal, titanic clash between Mercedes-Benz and Red Bull has officially migrated to Silverstone!”

The air completely shattered.

Verstappen’s performance was absolutely incomprehensible. But precisely because of that, it further highlighted exactly how terrifyingly dominant Bottas’s initial flying lap had truly been. It vastly exceeded all rational projections.

Out on the track, approaching the final corner: Club.

Kai deliberately delayed his throttle application, meticulously ensuring the rear tires perfectly, flawlessly gripped the asphalt the exact microsecond he reached the exit—

The straight!

Throttle pinned entirely to the floor!

The Number 22 car exhibited zero wobbling, zero instability, and zero hesitation. Transforming into a blinding scarlet afterimage, it pierced through the straight with short, violent ferocity, blasting past the main grandstand.

Amidst a deafening cacophony of boos and chaotic noise, Crofty’s voice violently erupted.

”Kai officially begins his final flying lap!”

”Bottas is immediately behind him! Hamilton is the absolute final driver to hit the track!”

...

The Silverstone circuit unspooled rapidly beneath his tires. The coarse, granulated texture of the tire compound violently interlocked with the abrasive, high-grip texture of the asphalt, relentlessly compressing the air. The misaligned particles fused tightly together, firmly anchoring the chassis to the earth as the power unit unleashed its absolute maximum output, chasing the invisible trail of the wind.

The steering wheel vibrated slightly in his hands. The infamous, highly erratic crosswinds typical of England violently swept across the straight. The scarlet chassis drifted microscopically under the crushing force of the turbulent air currents.

Kai didn’t frantically attempt to correct it. Instead, he smoothly rode the aerodynamic flow, allowing the chassis to naturally drift back toward the centerline as his terminal velocity continued to spike—

300 km/h. 320 km/h. 330 km/h!

The braking point for Turn 1, Abbey, arrived. Utilizing his peripheral vision and acute auditory senses, he hyper-focused his mind, meticulously projecting a flawless, three-dimensional holographic map of the circuit directly into his brain to isolate the exact braking marker.

Not too early. Not too late. Flawlessly calibrated. Everything depended entirely on microscopic timing.

His left foot stomped down with brutal force. The carbon brake discs instantly violently engaged in the freezing air. The pedal feedback was rock-solid and incredibly direct. The massive, instantaneous deceleration hit exactly like a heavy physical punch directly to the chest. The six-point harness locked violently tight, his helmet snapping violently forward.

Downshift—

Seventh gear. Sixth gear. Fifth gear.

A feather-light tap of the steering wheel. The front axle bit flawlessly into the asphalt. Zero understeer. Kai trail-braked deep into the absolute final meter of the apex, and then instantly released the pressure—

The Number 22 car executed a friendly, intimate handshake with Abbey.

Full throttle!

He executed only a microscopic steering correction, tracing a broad, majestic, sweeping arc directly across the apex, effortlessly and brilliantly blasting through the corner. The front axle exhibited a microscopic, highly controlled drift; he could viscerally feel the erratic crosswind violently disrupting the aerodynamic balance mid-corner. But Kai didn’t execute a frantic correction, nor did he panic. He maintained absolute throttle stability, before smoothly feeding in a fraction more power.

The hyper-refined, millimeter-perfect manipulation was virtually invisible to the naked eye, yet it instantly restored the chassis’s dynamic equilibrium. Utilizing pure speed to violently shatter the crosswind’s disruption, he charged out of Turn 1, Abbey, maintaining absolute supremacy, and plunged directly toward Turn 2, Farm, a high-speed curve. At this exact microsecond, he continued to relentlessly feed the throttle. The engine’s acoustic pitch climbed with perfectly smooth stability. The flawlessly fluid rhythm was absolutely intoxicating.

Looming immediately ahead were Turn 3, Village, and Turn 4, The Loop. The true, terrifying crucible of the circuit was waiting.

Amidst the howling gale, the scenery lining both sides of the track mutated into a blurred, continuous halo of light, cascading backward exactly like a massive, torrential flood. The visceral roar of the engine spiraled upward, merging with the deafening wind.

Braking point. Delay it slightly. Then delay it even further—

He was operating with vastly more audacity and extreme risk than he had displayed during Free Practice. Although he had absolutely never attempted this specific braking point during the three practice sessions, and this was his very first live, practical application, following relentless testing and continuous exploration, Kai had successfully established an unbreakable bond of absolute trust with his Number 22 car. He firmly, completely believed he could execute it.

Deep within the extended, heavily compressed braking zone, he pushed the chassis to its absolute, theoretical limit. The mechanical grip on the front axle began to noticeably deteriorate. Yet, he remained entirely unbothered, stubbornly delaying his deceleration by another half car-length.

Braking. Flawlessly linear. Pinned to the absolute limit. Through his fingertips, he could viscerally, intimately feel the violent, surging vibration of the chassis.

The core temperature of the front tires had officially awakened. Following a microscopic, highly calculated steering input, the nose of the car gently, gracefully dove toward the apex. It glided along the curvature with silky, flawless fluidity. Kai didn’t rush to return the steering to center.

Patience!

A microscopic tap of the throttle. Traction was firmly established.

A gentle push—a microscopic lift—

He put an absolute, masterclass display of car control on full display in the middle of the corner. The entire cornering sequence was incredibly clean and phenomenally sharp. He wasn’t greedy, because he knew the true, massive lap time was entirely dependent on the exit trajectory.

Feed the throttle! The short straight! Lift off! The hairpin Loop!

The absolute slowest corner on the entire circuit. It demanded absolute patience, but it also demanded profound meticulousness. Managing the transition between the straight and the corner, flawlessly shifting from high-speed down to medium-speed, and constantly maintaining a perfectly uniform, unbroken rhythm. Kai lifted off the throttle a fraction of a microsecond early, carefully preserving a microscopic reserve of front-end mechanical grip. He opened the steering angle to its absolute maximum limit. The rear diffuser virtually scraped the white lines, utilizing absolutely 100% of the available track surface. A highly unstable, outward-swinging oscillation threatened to violently violently snap the chassis’s restraints and send the car spinning wildly out of control.

However, Kai absolutely did not apply opposite lock to execute a frantic correction. Instead, he smoothly, imperceptibly rolled off the throttle—

Grab it!

Exactly like flawlessly, precisely snatching a rapidly slipping kite string amidst the chaotic, violent turbulence of a massive hurricane.

Immediately following that, he fed the throttle.

A fraction more. Then another fraction. A perfectly linear, methodically progressive power application. The rear tires were violently yanked back down to the tarmac, securely gripping the kite string. Without a microsecond of hesitation or delay, he initiated a full-scale, flat-out sprint. Faster and faster. Faster and faster! Turn 4, The Loop, was already completely left in his wake. Before anyone could even blink, that blinding scarlet afterimage had already blasted through Turn 5, dragging a massive comet tail of aerodynamic turbulence as it majestically pierced the Wellington Straight.

VROOM! VROOM! VROOM!

Amidst the continuous, deafening roar, the SF90—operating exactly like a child born of the storm—had finally, miraculously rediscovered its true self on the Silverstone circuit, radiating a blinding, spectacular light.

A massive gasp. Breath was instantly severed.

”Sector 1, purple!”

The air completely solidified.

Although Ferrari had undeniably held a microscopic advantage in Sector 1 throughout the weekend, Bottas had operated exactly like a man possessed by a racing deity during his initial Q3 flying lap. He had delivered an ultimate single-lap time that appeared completely, mathematically unattainable, forcing absolutely everyone to look up in sheer awe.

And now?

Even Crofty couldn’t resist violently clenching his fist, unleashing a massive shout. ”Brilliant!”

The burning gaze of both the Ferrari and Mercedes-Benz pit garages converged simultaneously onto the timing monitors.

Kai, however, was the absolute sole exception. He lacked the luxury of time to mentally review his performance in Sector 1. The impending Sector 2 was the absolute, defining soul of Silverstone, and the critical battleground where the ultimate victor would be decided.

At the absolute terminus of the Wellington Straight, Turn 6, Brooklands, physically seamlessly connected to the ultra-long horseshoe of Turn 7, Luffield, forming a massive, twisted S-curve that lay horizontally across his path.

Heavy braking! Downshift!

Click, click, click. The rapid-fire sound of the paddle shifters engaging perfectly synchronized with the violently hammering rhythm of his heartbeat.

Trail-braking into the corner. The front axle responded with incredible, crystalline clarity. He deliberately, calculatingly sliced the steering angle slightly deeper toward the inside, explicitly sacrificing mid-corner speed to meticulously optimize his exit angle. Then, he opened the throttle a fraction of a microsecond earlier than anticipated. Every single input demanded profound finesse, absolute precision, and flawless calibration. A microscopic deviation—even a millimeter too much aggression or a millimeter too little commitment—would inevitably result in the rear tires violently breaking traction and spinning wildly out of control within the continuous corner complex.

Everything felt exactly like a chaotic, brilliant jazz composition.

Certain drivers interpret the rhythm using four beats. Others attempt to decode it utilizing eight beats, or perhaps even sixteen beats. Kai, however, had explicitly elected to comprehensively, entirely deconstruct the sequence utilizing a massive thirty-two-beat structure.

He had mentally fragmented the Silverstone circuit into highly specific one-thirty-second, or even one-sixty-fourth, micro-beats. Utilizing profoundly delicate, hyper-precise car control, he was fully prepared to flawlessly strike every single drumbeat. When every single microscopic variable was perfectly synchronized, it would organically mutate into a dense, incredibly uniform rhythm, flawlessly, fluidly painting the magnificent, sweeping curves of a grand melody.

Turn 7, Luffield’s horseshoe—

Patience.

Patience!

Above all else, absolute patience.

He held the steering angle perfectly static. The throttle application beneath his foot was exactly like a gently flowing, continuous stream. The high-pitched, visceral sound of the tire compound violently scrubbing against the asphalt was terrifyingly clear. It wasn’t a desperate, agonized squeal; it was a highly synchronized, rhythmic friction exactly like a grand waltz. The four tires harmonized flawlessly, rotating at terminal velocity. The aerodynamic skirts and the rear diffuser proudly flared and danced gracefully amidst the completely fluid, unbroken footsteps.

The exact microsecond the steering wheel returned to center, the throttle was pinned completely to the floor. Maintaining absolute, terminal high-speed velocity, and preserving an aura of completely fluid momentum, he blasted through Turn 8 without a single fraction of hesitation. Turn 9, Copse, was already violently rushing up to meet him.

A massive, terrifying crucible!

Braking?

No, no, no. Copse is a hyper-speed corner that is fully, mathematically capable of being navigated entirely flat-out. However, it absolutely is not a massive, sweeping, open parabolic curve like those found at Spa or Monza. The entire cornering arc is approximately sixty degrees. Although a driver can theoretically keep the throttle pinned, the ultimate, terrifying outcome is dictated entirely by microscopic variables: exactly how they manipulate the throttle lift, exactly how they physically combat the crushing G-forces, and exactly how they manage their minute steering inputs.

Precisely because of this deceptive ’leniency,’ the ambitious, deeply entrenched desire of elite drivers to aggressively extract the absolute maximum terminal velocity at Copse consistently manufactures an astronomical number of catastrophic, horrific accidents at this specific location—

Being a coward?

That simply results in a completely different classification of failure.

Currently, filling the global broadcast frame with absolute clarity, the Number 22 Ferrari exhibited absolutely zero deceleration. It launched a massive, full-scale frontal assault. Throttle continuously pinned. The massive, overlapping layers of deafening engine roar mutated into a raging tsunami, violently, ruthlessly crashing down upon the grandstands located at the absolute terminus of Copse. The massive scarlet wave surged forward with terrifying, uncompromising aggression.

Throttle, maintained. Absolutely zero brakes.

Instead, he executed a microscopic, almost imperceptible lift of the throttle pedal. Operating at terminal velocity, the actual speed deficit was virtually invisible to the naked eye. However, that tiny deceleration allowed the tires to secure a massive, critical injection of mechanical grip, enabling the chassis to aggressively, surgically slice directly into the corner.

The violent crosswind slammed into the flank of the car. The rear diffuser began to subtly, terrifyingly float.

But his steering inputs remained completely, resolutely firm. He executed a microscopic, hyper-precise correction—the movement so infinitesimally small it was practically invisible. He viscerally perceived the dynamic, oscillating equilibrium of the chassis, continuously, relentlessly pushing forward along the precise mathematical curve dictated by the corner—

GASP!

The spectators packing the Copse grandstands instantly had their breath violently severed. They stared, completely paralyzed, as the Number 22 car violently charged toward them. Because the entry velocity was so astronomically high, for a terrifying, fleeting microsecond, it generated a horrifying optical illusion that the chassis had completely lost all control and was violently understeering directly into the barriers. The massive, towering scarlet tsunami was baring its fangs, preparing to violently crush them.

Absolute terror instantly seized their hearts. They completely forgot to breathe. They were physically incapable of breathing. Their brains flatlined. One by one, they stood completely frozen in place, entirely stripped of their ability to react, helplessly watching as they were about to be violently swallowed, pulverized, and reduced to absolute ash by the impending tsunami.

The exact microsecond the terminal velocity was pushed to its absolute, theoretical zenith, transcending the speed of sound and the speed of light, it felt exactly as though the chassis had successfully shattered the restrictive, fundamental laws of time itself. Counterintuitively, absolutely everything seemed to violently slow down.

Frame by excruciating frame, they watched as that brilliant flash of Ferrari red displayed an absolutely incomprehensible, terrifying level of stability amidst the chaotic, violent storm. The wildly turbulent aerodynamic airflow submissively, obediently pierced through the aerodynamic elements of the car. Zero wobbling. Zero oscillation. With absolute, unyielding resolve and unstoppable forward momentum, the chassis blasted through entirely flat-out. The blinding light and the raging storm violently intertwined, seamlessly merging into a single, unified entity.

The grandstand situated at the absolute exit of Copse Corner is undeniably the most spectacular, terrifyingly exhilarating vantage point at Silverstone. It offers a vastly more visceral, profoundly dangerous sensory experience than a rollercoaster or high-altitude skydiving. The massive, instantaneous explosion of adrenaline and dopamine is more than sufficient to completely paralyze the nervous system. The spectacular scene currently unfolding was utilizing undeniable, concrete actions to perfectly validate that truth.

Watching a catastrophic disaster apparently materializing right before their eyes, that flash of Ferrari red violently rushed their position, instantly severing their respiration. It felt exactly like standing directly upon the precipice of death’s gate. Yet, before they possessed the cognitive runway to process a reaction, their brains completely crashing, they watched helplessly as that razor-sharp scarlet blade miraculously, terrifyingly sliced mere millimeters past their retinas. They could clearly, viscerally feel the lethal sharpness of the hurricane generated by the terminal velocity physically slapping against their cheeks. Their eyeballs felt exactly as though they were being physically lacerated. Their immediate, primal reflex was to violently clutch their own throats.

Operating on a massive, full-beat delay, the frantic screams finally burst from their lungs. Their eyes wide as saucers, panting heavily, they stared blankly straight ahead.

A lingering, brilliant scarlet halo remained permanently burned into the atmosphere of Copse Corner, slowly, ethereally dissipating exactly like mist or smoke.

”Beautiful!”

On the pit wall, Pierre Borreipaire secretly clenched his fists. A triumphant celebration for the heavily upgraded SF90, and undeniably, for Kai.

Copse was a massive, terrifying crucible. The highly refined aerodynamic package and the fundamentally updated front-end architecture meant this specific corner served as the absolute, definitive entry threshold for the SF90 navigating Sector 2 at Silverstone. Only by successfully establishing a flawless, unshakeable rhythm here could Ferrari genuinely hope to manufacture massive, disruptive waves during Qualifying and the impending Sunday Grand Prix.

Absolutely everything fundamentally revolved around absolute trust and flawless coordination—

During Leclerc’s Q1 flying lap, his execution through this specific sector had been stellar. Consequently, the remainder of the lap flowed perfectly, and his single-lap time spiked massively. But in Q2 and Q3, Leclerc began to exhibit subtle, terrifying oscillations. The exact microsecond his absolute confidence began to waver, microscopic fractures materialized in his technical execution. And subsequently, he absolutely never managed to improve upon his personal best time.

However, Leclerc, who had just completed his second Q3 flying lap, had already successfully cleared Copse. This time, he had put his raw, prodigy-tier audacity and sheer courage on full display. His final flying lap time was undoubtedly going to be something to eagerly anticipate. But now it was Kai’s turn. His performance had been nothing short of absolute, transcendent perfection. Borreipaire couldn’t resist secretly clenching his fists in fierce triumph.

Holding his breath, Borreipaire’s entire body went rigidly tense. He kept his eyes obsessively, unblinkingly locked onto the tiny red dot moving across his computer monitor—

The impending Maggotts, Becketts, all the way to Chapel sequence. This was the absolute climax, the pure, unadulterated essence of the circuit!

Out on the track, Kai had completely, totally entered an absolute push phase. He was entirely, profoundly immersed within the machine. His heart was hammering violently against his ribs, yet his long, uniform, rhythmic breathing remained terrifyingly, eerily stable.

In this specific sector, you absolutely cannot ”sprint.” You absolutely must ”flow.” The race car felt exactly like a heavily tightened, perfectly tuned bowstring. There wasn’t a single millimeter of extraneous, wasted oscillation.

Left. Right. Left. Right.

The continuous, violent directional changes. The massive, chaotic turbulence. The crushing G-forces relentlessly, brutally attacking from both the left and the right. It felt exactly like a raging hurricane, violently shredding his respiration into a thousand tiny fragments. The six-point harness brutally pinned his body to the seat. The entire, massive kinetic load was concentrated entirely upon the muscles in his neck, violently pulling and tearing. A continuous, heavy barrage of thump-thump impacts relentlessly hammered against his eardrums from both sides. The deafening, explosive roar of the engine threatened to violently pulverize his very soul into dust. The external world had long since completely vanished into the absolute void created by the visceral noise.

Yet, Kai remained incredibly focused, profoundly immersed. Amidst the erupting, crushing pressure, his heartbeat flawlessly synchronized with the corners. His steering inputs perfectly dictated the rhythm. Silverstone was entirely submitting at his feet.

Faster and faster. Smoother and smoother.

He absolutely wasn’t aggressively attacking individual, isolated corners; he was meticulously, fiercely protecting his overarching rhythm. The heavily upgraded suspension geometry flawlessly maintained absolute dynamic equilibrium amidst the violent, continuous cycles of extreme compression and rapid rebound. At this specific juncture, blindly pursuing the absolute limit at any single point was a catastrophic error. Because a single, microscopic mid-corner steering correction possessed the terrifying potential to instantly push the rear-axle temperatures completely outside the optimal operating window. This absolutely had to be a perfectly linked, seamlessly connected, single fluid motion maintained until the bitter end.

Every single directional transition was initiated a fraction of a microsecond early. It absolutely wasn’t a reactive reflex; it was a massive, highly calculated anticipation. He absolutely wasn’t waiting for the chassis to completely finish rotating before initiating the subsequent input. Instead, while the chassis was still actively shifting its mass, he flawlessly captured the microscopic latency gap to preemptively issue the next command. He was hitting the exact, microscopic rhythmic beats perfectly amidst the raging storm.

A fraction of a second too early, and the car violently departs the track limits. A fraction of a second too late, and the car still violently departs the track limits.

However!

The rhythm control Kai was putting on full display was incredibly graceful, unbelievably effortless. It looked utterly natural, requiring absolutely zero visible exertion. It was purely, genuinely an absolute aesthetic masterpiece.

This... this was true rhythm. Exactly like a musical beat, resembling a poetic cadence. It successfully transformed the brutal Silverstone circuit into a magnificent, soaring symphonic movement.

At this exact microsecond, the massive volumes of telemetry, experience, and raw data meticulously accumulated through endless testing, continuous exploration, and highly calculated risk-taking during the three Free Practice sessions finally, brilliantly materialized in a single, spectacular flash on the asphalt—

Mid-way through Becketts. A flawlessly timed, incredibly delicate lift of the throttle.

A fleeting, microscopic instant.

He allowed the front tires to cool by a fraction of a degree, actively preventing catastrophic overheating. He effectively took a tiny, critical breath amidst the raging hurricane, before instantly feeding the throttle again. The exit of Turn 14, Chapel, was already completely laid bare before his visor.

Effortlessly. Full throttle.

The rear diffuser exhibited a microscopic, terrifying lateral snap. But Kai flatly refused to lift off the throttle. He merely executed a highly precise, microscopic steering correction. The rear tires slid gently along the absolute, ragged edge of physics. The race car felt exactly like a massively over-drawn bowstring—

Taut. At the absolute limit.

Release!

The Hangar Straight unspooled ahead with the majestic, unstoppable momentum of a freshly released arrow. The towering, majestic aura instantly mutated into a massive tsunami, completely blanketing the entirety of Silverstone.

”Sector 2! Green!”

GASP!

Crofty stared at the live broadcast monitor, absolutely dumbfounded. His brain was buzzing with chaotic static. Although Kai hadn’t successfully managed to paint Sector 2 purple, Crofty had caught a fleeting, microscopic glimpse of the sector split data. He vaguely, highly suspiciously recalled that Kai and Bottas’s specific sector times appeared to be virtually identical.

An illusion... right?

After all, Formula 1 Qualifying margins are routinely decided by tenths of a second. If you drill down into specific micro-sector splits, the margins become even more terrifyingly minute—hundredths, or even thousandths of a second. Unless the two distinct sets of data are displayed side-by-side for a direct, objective comparison, it is fundamentally impossible to accurately differentiate them with a cursory glance.

Formula 1 has absolutely never been a sport where raw data can be reliably processed by the naked eye. Experiencing a cognitive illusion triggered by intense anticipation and massive adrenaline was an incredibly common, totally understandable occurrence.

Without even consciously realizing it, Crofty tightly clenched his fists.

His scattered thoughts lingered for a brief moment, but completely failed to expand further. Following that brilliant streak of scarlet red rocketing forward at terminal velocity, his heart, his brain, and his very soul were violently dragged back into the eye of the hurricane, blasting forward with majestic, unstoppable momentum directly toward Turn 15, Stowe—

Stowe. A downhill, high-speed right-hander.

Although it maintains an incredibly high terminal velocity, a corner is fundamentally still a corner. Furthermore, because it features a significant downhill gradient, the violent transfer of aerodynamic and mechanical load onto the front axle upon entry is exceptionally severe.

Executing an extreme late-braking maneuver here isn’t particularly difficult. The true, terrifying challenge lies in successfully maintaining a flawlessly connected rhythm. Because the immediately subsequent Turn 16, Vale, is undeniably the absolute defining highlight of Sector 3.

Braking—

Delay.

Delay it even further.

Fundamentally differing from his approach in Free Practice, radically diverging from his execution in Q1 and Q2, and drastically departing from any performance he had delivered previously this season... Kai put an incredibly expansive, massively aggressive, completely uninhibited driving style on full display. He aggressively resurrected the paddock’s visceral memories. This was the exact, terrifying posture that had allowed the rookie Kai to violently detonate the sport last season. The raw, hot-blooded vitality and razor-sharp lethal edge of the young prodigy were un-concealed and fully unleashed.

Radiating a blinding, spectacular light!

Braking. Pushed to the absolute, terrifying limit. At this specific microsecond, the visible, terrifying oscillation of the rear diffuser was glaringly apparent. The optimal operating window for the SF90 while hovering on the absolute ragged edge of physics remained agonizingly narrow. Even after absorbing two massive upgrade packages, it still hadn’t achieved a truly ideal state of equilibrium.

However, Kai didn’t panic.

He absolutely didn’t violently snap his foot off the brake pedal. He executed a slow, incredibly methodical, hyper-linear release. It felt exactly like meticulously carving an intricate masterpiece onto a single grain of rice within a thousandth of a second. Yet, he completely refused to miss a single microscopic detail, vividly and flawlessly sketching every single petal and every single delicate vein. The narrower and vastly more urgent the available physical space became, the less he could afford to execute sloppy, unrefined inputs. The absolute micro-details dictate the ultimate victory or catastrophic defeat—

The front axle. Biting flawlessly.

The steering input. A single, fluid, connected motion. He hovered tightly against the absolute apex of the corner, executing a highly elegant, low-altitude flight. He successfully optimized his exit angle, requiring virtually zero subsequent micro-corrections. The expansive, brilliantly illuminated exit was already completely open before him.

Throttle. Pinned completely to the floor.

Zero struggling. Zero wobbling. He violently discarded the notoriously cunning Stowe corner, rocketing away into the distance.

So incredibly fluid, so elegantly light. So silky smooth and so breathtakingly graceful. It forced the audience to completely stop breathing. The massive, overlapping waves of profound shock cascaded forward. Entire bodies trembled uncontrollably. A massive, electric wave of tingling adrenaline shot rhythmically from the soles of feet directly to the top of skulls. A profound sense of absolute, transcendent satisfaction completely saturated the soul. Human language was fundamentally incapable of accurately describing the sheer, spectacular brilliance of the scene.

The circuit, the chassis, the driver. Flawlessly fused into a single, unified entity. It looked exactly like witnessing a legendary, immortal painter creating a masterpiece live before their eyes. The splashing of ink, the sweeping, majestic strokes... the wildly uninhibited, entirely elegant movements felt profoundly natural, as if ordained by heaven itself. With effortless ease, he sketched magnificent, sweeping lines and wildly vibrant colors. In a single fraction of a microsecond, all verbal commentary was rendered entirely obsolete, leaving everyone trapped in a state of profound, inescapable shock.

In the very next second, the live broadcast abruptly cut away. They temporarily abandoned Kai’s chassis, locking the focus entirely onto the finish line, as the timing monitors violently refreshed—

A massive shudder shot through Crofty’s spine. A purely reflexive, terrifyingly loud scream burst violently from his throat. The raw shock detonated exactly like a massive volcanic eruption.

”Leclerc! Second!”

”Oh, Jesus Christ.”
