Max Level Return—I'll Protect That Fragile One

Huo Wen’an suddenly sat up straight, furrowing his brows, his expression somewhat unpleasant. The woman who resembled his sister happened to be a doctor at Cangshan Town’s psychiatric hospital, which naturally made Huo Wen’an think deeply.

Huo Wen’an leaned back into the chair again, rubbing his forehead, murmuring, ”She used to often go to Cangshan Town’s psychiatric hospital.”

Knowing that Huo Wen’an just wanted a listener, Xu Xingguang didn’t speak.

Huo Wen’an fell into his memories, speaking in a gloomy tone: ”My mother was mentally unstable and often physically abusive towards me. The town mayor believed she was not right in the head and had talked to her several times, insisting she must go to the psychiatric hospital for an examination. Eventually, she went there and even picked up medication.”

The Alliance Government places great emphasis on the treatment of mental illness, and the medication my mother took wasn’t expensive. So, whenever the medication was almost used up, the hospital would call to urge her to take more. My sister, due to her special status, often skipped school and frequently followed her to the psychiatric hospital to play.

I remember once when I came home from school, my sister told me that the psychiatric hospital had a park with rockeries, and someone played hide and seek with her. Worried about the unstable condition of the patients at the psychiatric hospital possibly harming her, I even sternly warned her not to play with those patients there.

At this point, Huo Wen’an suddenly widened his eyes.

Xu Xingguang also realized something and stopped wiping his hair.

Huo Wen’an looked up at Xu Xingguang, breathing heavily, and said, ”After Huo Xin went missing, the mayor led the townspeople to search the entire town, including the psychiatric hospital, but no one went to that rockery area...”

Because nobody knew that the rockery at the psychiatric hospital was used for ’hide and seek’!

And the ’hide and seek’ game was a secret among the psychiatric patients.

Huo Wen’an’s eyelashes trembled slightly and his heartbeat began to race.

”I scolded her that day.” Huo Wen’an raised his arm, covering his eyes, softly murmuring, ”Huo Xin, how could you be so stupid! You didn’t even know you were pregnant! Huo Xin, you’re just a burden, I should have sent you to a psychiatric hospital, it would have been better than sending you to school!”

These were the exact words Huo Wen’an said to her the day Huo Xin went missing.

Huo Wen’an suddenly turned to lying on the sofa, tightly hugging Xu Xingguang’s waist, his shoulders trembling lightly. ”She deceived me, she knows me, she just doesn’t want to acknowledge me.”

With the facts laid out, Xu Xingguang couldn’t lie to comfort Huo Wen’an.

She also believed Yin Su was actually Huo Xin, and knew Huo Xin had always been aware that Huo Wen’an was actually Huo Zui.

Despite accidentally meeting, she pretended not to know Huo Wen’an.

Maybe it’s because she resented Huo Wen’an for abandoning her.

Or maybe she had already forgotten the past memories.

”Perhaps there’s a misunderstanding in this, Brother A Zui. When you’re better, I’ll accompany you back to Cangshan Town to find her. We have a mouth, let’s explain what’s needed and apologize for what’s necessary. Whether she wants to acknowledge you or not, you have to see her.”

”Do you think, when I said those words, I was merely acting on impulse?” Huo Wen’an couldn’t deceive himself, ”It wasn’t just a slip of the tongue, it was the truth accumulated in my heart for a long time, just that day emotions went out of control and they came out.”

”I don’t even have the face to apologize to her.”

Words spoken are like spilled water.

Even if he has his difficulties and hardships, he still caused Huo Xin harm.

Huo Xin not acknowledging him, he deserved it.

Xu Xingguang isn’t good at comforting others, this was a mental hurdle for Huo Wen’an, he had to find a resolution with Huo Xin himself. Turning on the hairdryer, Xu Xingguang helped Huo Wen’an dry his hair, then changed the topic to divert Huo Wen’an’s attention.

”Tomorrow you’ll meet your parents.” Xu Xingguang asked Huo Wen’an, ”What kind of attitude should I have towards them?”

Xu Xingguang’s attitude towards her future parents-in-law depended on their attitude towards Huo Wen’an.

”Just treat them like two talking toys and watch them perform coldly.” Huo Wen’an felt no affection towards his nominal parents.

”I understand.”

”I saw Song Chi carrying many things this afternoon, he said those were all gifts you prepared for meeting them.” Huo Wen’an told Xu Xingguang, ”Actually you don’t need to prepare meeting gifts for them, it’s unnecessary.”

”Having a meal with them is giving them face.”

”Only some small gifts, not expensive.” Xu Xingguang smiled gently and said, ”They need them.”
