Max Level Return—I'll Protect That Fragile One

Xu Xingguang forcefully slapped his hand: ”Don’t move around, you have a fever.”

Hearing this, Huo Wen’an stopped moving.

He had been hiking in the jungle for two days and then soaked in ice water. It would be strange if he didn’t have a fever.

Huo Wen’an lay on a rock, scrutinizing Xu Xingguang.

Only after ensuring Xu Xingguang did not have any serious injuries did Huo Wen’an feel at ease.

Xu Xingguang took out a bunch of red fruits from her canvas bag, crushed one to taste it, and immediately frowned in disdain, muttering, ”This stuff is still so bitter.”

Xu Xingguang stared at Huo Wen’an for a while, then suddenly chewed up seven or eight fruits in one go, grabbed his mouth open, and kissed him.

Huo Wen’an was startled.

The happiness came too suddenly.

Unfortunately, he was feverish and his mind was not clear, unable to enjoy the taste of the kiss.

Suddenly, an unbearably bitter fruit juice was transferred into his body by Xu Xingguang.

Xu Xingguang quickly pulled away, spat out the fruit residue in disgust, and told Huo Wen’an, ”This is good stuff, a miraculous fever remedy. I specifically went to the cliff to pick it for you.”

So she wasn’t trying to kiss him.

”Thank you.”

Xu Xingguang then took out a wild apple from the canvas bag. While munching on it, she asked Huo Wen’an, ”Why are you here?”

Huo Wen’an said, ”Looking for you.”

Xu Xingguang thought for a moment and understood. ”You thought I was being chased into the No-man District, afraid I might die inside, so you came to find me?”

Honestly, when Xu Xingguang returned to the big tree earlier and found Huo Wen’an leaning against the trunk with a fever, she was truly shocked.

She didn’t expect Huo Wen’an to venture into the No-man District to find her.

The moment she saw Huo Wen’an, Xu Xingguang was overwhelmed with emotion.

She suddenly felt that everything was worth it.

She ventured into this dangerous and wild No-man District to find the Earth Dragon to cure Huo Wen’an. And Huo Wen’an, worried about her, risked everything, dragging his feverish body into the No-man District to find her.

Nothing is more reassuring and delightful than a mutual endeavor.

Amidst his hazy consciousness, Huo Wen’an muttered, ”The Kunze Mountain Range is so vast. If you were still alive but couldn’t find your way back, waiting for someone to come for you, how distressing would that be.”

”Xingguang.” Huo Wen’an instinctively rubbed the wooden bracelet, saying, ”I’m afraid you would be scared.”

Afraid Xu Xingguang would be afraid.

So he came to find her.

His reason was just that simple and pure.

Upon hearing Huo Wen’an’s answer, Xu Xingguang took a big bite of the wild apple, feeling increasingly sour as she ate.

It was truly a heart-wrenching sourness.

”Huo Wen’an.” Xu Xingguang grasped Huo Wen’an’s hand, which nervously kept rubbing the wooden bracelet.

His hand was alarmingly hot due to the fever. ”Xu Xingguang is right here, you can rest assured now.”

Huo Wen’an must have heard Xu Xingguang’s words, as he soon drowsily drifted back into sleep.

By the time Huo Wen’an’s fever completely subsided and his mind cleared, two days had passed. He awoke without seeing Xu Xingguang, but noticed insect repellent powder scattered around him.

After eating a wild apple left by Xu Xingguang, he noticed the sound of running water coming from behind the bramble forest.

Huo Wen’an traversed through the brambles and saw Xu Xingguang wearing only a black camisole, soaking in the water, using her canvas bag to catch fish.

Realizing Xu Xingguang was on her period, Huo Wen’an’s expression immediately turned stern, forcefully reminding her, ”Xu Xingguang, the water is too cold, come up right away, be careful not to get sick.”

Xu Xingguang glanced back at him and shushed with a finger.

Huo Wen’an was a little helpless but didn’t say anything further.

Suddenly, Xu Xingguang saw something and dived headfirst into the water.

Huo Wen’an’s gaze followed her movements, noticing she was chasing after a fish with a completely transparent body and alabaster-like bones.

It was a fish he had never seen before.

The fish swam incredibly fast. Xu Xingguang struggled in the water for more than twenty minutes just to catch it using her canvas bag.

”Give me a hand!” Xu Xingguang reached her left hand out to Huo Wen’an.

Huo Wen’an grasped her fingers, finding her skin ice-cold, like touching ice cubes. ”Xu Xingguang! Do you long for fish that much? Don’t you know you shouldn’t soak in ice water while on your period?”

Xu Xingguang handed him the canvas bag and explained: ”This creature is called an Earth Dragon; it can cleanse the viral genes in your blood. Do you think I was foolishly soaking in the water just to eat some fish?”

Xu Xingguang rolled her eyes at Huo Wen’an, ”This was to save you.” She had stayed by the lake for several days, finally figuring out the Earth Dragon’s pattern of appearance.
