Reincarnation of the Strongest Healer

After reading the mission prompt, Xu Feng nearly staggered a few steps back.

He wasn’t astonished by the objective despite being very complex. Instead, he was stunned by the reward.

’A blueprint for the Phantom Warship? Did something alter again?’ Xu Feng couldn’t believe that he wasn’t just getting one Epic Ranked Warship, but multiple of them.

Although the materials and mastery level required to build an epic ranked warship might be costly, it still meant that he could produce more epic ranked warships for his guild.

By then, who could confront him in naval warfare?

An epic ranked warship was not to be underestimated!

”So what about it, youngster?” Chao Shen approached him and said, ”Will you accept the challenge or will you give up? If you do give up, then just hand over the merits and you will have this Phantom Warship right away.”

”Eh?” This time, Xu Feng was truly left dazed. So there was actually another option available.

Could it be that the previous player chose the easy way out?

This should most likely be the case, given that there hadn’t been any appearance of another Phantom Warship.

’Damn, that player is really a spineless person.’ Xu Feng cursed silently. He had nearly gotten a fright when he thought his action caused another butterfly effect.

However, that wasn’t the case here. Instead, it was just that Handsome Chao had two offers that the player could choose from.

Snapping out of his daze, Xu Feng turned to Chao Shen and asked, ”If I don’t give up and accept the mission, but fail in the end. Do I still get the Phantom Warship?”

”Of course... NOT!” Chao Shen purposely delayed his last word and snorted.

”Although I admire your effort in gathering so many merits, there is no such thing as freebies in both ways. You can either accept the epic ranked warship right now and leave or you can gamble and try to earn a bigger reward.”

”...”

Despite knowing the chance of getting compensation was very low because the Divine World was always a ruthless world, he still wanted to ask just in case.

Now that Chao Shen had officially stated that he could only choose one, he was left in a dilemma.

’No wonder the spineless player left with the epic ranked warship.’ He finally came to a realization.

The mission might not have listed any difficulty rank, but it was without a doubt at least above the epic rank. In fact, it could possibly be a legendary rank considering the mysteries, lore, and implications behind it.

The higher the difficulty, the greater the reward. This was a common saying, but the majority tend to forget that the higher the difficulty, the greater the failure was.

As for why no one mentioned or forgot about it was because failing such high difficulty was something no one would wish to bring up again.

”So what do you choose, youngster?” Chao Shen asked after a few minutes had gone by. He knew the decision was going to be tough to make, but time was limited. He still needed to return to his comfortable chair and nap.

”If I choose to accept the mission, then where am I supposed to get a ship to travel in the Phantasm Sea?” Xu Feng smiled bitterly and said, ”I’m very broke. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have tried to test my luck in seeing if I can get a free ship.”

Nodding in response, Chao Shen naturally recalled his very first words in their interaction.

”Rest assured, I can lend you a bronze ranked warship for free until the failure or completion of the mission. As for the Sea Chart Fragment, you can head over to the Cartographer Guild and seek a man named Lao Shu. Tell them that I sent you over. This folding fan of mine will be enough to prove your credentials.” He suggested and handed Xu Feng his folding fan.

After accepting the folding fan, Xu Feng didn’t know it automatically meant the mission was accepted.

System: You have accepted the Phantom’s Wake mission!

’Fuck.’ Although he planned on accepting it anyway, he wanted to strategize it over first. Acting without a plan could be considered an impulsive action that oftentimes leads to failures.

”Well, get a move on it.” Chao Shen said impatiently and waved his hand.

”I don’t have all day for you, so just come back here and you’ll see a glass container for the bronze ranked warship.” He continued and yawned, clearly in the state of dozing off.

Xu Feng could only nod his head now that the situation was practically finalized.

”I shall return promptly, Handsome Chao.” He calmly said, turned around, and began retracing his footsteps.

The reason for that was that exiting the area was another set of tests from Chao Shen. Granted that sea traveling was way different than land traveling, Chao Shen intended to test his ability to retract his footprint and find the exit path.

To summarize, Xu Feng didn’t pay attention to the treasures shown on the display shelves all along to memorize the paths.

Everything that Chao Shen had done appeared to be for comical effects, but the reality was that he wanted to see how much Xu Feng would become distracted and lose his focus.

As Xu Feng’s silhouette quietly disappeared from the scene, the yawning Chao Shen suddenly changed his expression.

”I wonder how long it would take him to return here.” He stroked his chin and retrieved a chair from the void. At the same time, a bird flew toward him from the shadow.

Looking at the bird, Chao Shen flashed a warm smile and gave it a pat. ”Go and follow the youngster. Assist him in case there’s any trouble, otherwise, stay hidden.”

The bird chirped a little bit in joy, snuggled its head toward Chao Shen’s arm for a while, and flapped its wings to fly away. Its speed was supersonic, exceeding even that of Mini Earthrender—the legendary pet that Xu Feng had kept in the Pet Space.
