Undead Mage from a Cell

Chapter 22: Chapter 20: Undead Evolution

Watching the Deceitful Shadow Boss fall in battle, Gu Xi finally breathed a sigh of relief.

Although the Deceitful Shadow Boss didn’t initially place much pressure on Gu Xi’s frontline, the presence or absence of a boss still had an impact on the black Deceitful Shadows.

By killing the Deceitful Shadow Boss, Gu Xi could distinctly feel a significant reduction in pressure on both sides of the frontlines.

”Kill!”

At this moment, all of Gu Xi’s troops had been committed to the battlefield. He had no plans to redeploy any combat squads to rearrange them but instead issued a command for a full assault.

The combat squad 2, which had just been surrounding the Deceitful Shadow Boss, raised their longswords at once and headed toward the rear of the black Deceitful Shadows’ ranks.

The black Deceitful Shadows at the back were still being pushed back by combat squad 1’s attack, never expecting anyone to charge back at them again.

So in the midst of chaos, combat squad 2 easily slaughtered over thirty black Deceitful Shadows, which finally drew the attention of these shadows, causing them to turn back and engage with squad 2’s skeletons.

Compared to the skeletons of combat squad 1, those wielding two-handed longswords had a stronger grappling ability. As the black Deceitful Shadows charged back, they not only stood their ground but charged forward, their longswords continually hacking upward.

The black Deceitful Shadows didn’t flinch and directly clashed with squad 2’s skeletons.

Seeing this opportunity, the controller of combat squad 1 attacked from behind the black Deceitful Shadows.

The two combat squads were like the upper and lower parts of a millstone, grinding down the numbers of the black Deceitful Shadows continuously.

On the other side, the black Deceitful Shadows encountered a defense as solid as a rocky mountain. The round shields of combat squad 4 blocked their attacks, while the long spears of combat squad 3 would precisely strike all black Deceitful Shadows as soon as their attacks paused.

It could be said that the battle on this side went much more smoothly compared to the rear.

With the protection of combat squad 4, the skeletons of combat squad 3 didn’t have to worry about enemies closing in.

The skeletons of combat squad 4 only needed to focus on defense, as killing the black Deceitful Shadows would share some experience points with them as well.

If they sensed that the line was at risk, they could simply retreat a bit. New barricades would block the pursuing black Deceitful Shadows, easing the pressure on those skeletons.

Then they would once again launch an offensive against the black Deceitful Shadows.

Seeing this, Gu Xi no longer attempted to redeploy his troops. All four combat squads had established their respective tactics and coordination. If their levels could be raised a bit more, Gu Xi believed they would coordinate even better.

No wonder people said that once an Undead Mage had an army, future battles would go smoothly.

As he watched the continuous stream of kill notifications before him, Gu Xi couldn’t help but nod.

No matter how much those skeletons gained, Gu Xi acquired 1 point of experience for every enemy they killed.

While smaller engagements couldn’t compare to Gu Xi personally using Corpse Burst, on a large battlefield, the experience points would soar.

Already, in just that short moment, Gu Xi had gained 327 experience points.

Adding to the experience from the previous wave and the Deceitful Shadow Boss kill, Gu Xi realized he was on the verge of leveling up again.

This was indeed a good thing. If he leveled up once more, he could master an additional new skill, making future tasks smoother for him.

Thinking of this, Gu Xi gazed into the distance.

Luna had mentioned that Yalidov was 2.9 square kilometers in size, and the block where they stood was less than one percent of that.

Once these black Deceitful Shadows were cleared, he intended to push outward to the edge of Luna’s controllable territory.

What else he might encounter inside was unknown to Gu Xi, so he had to prepare for everything.

As Gu Xi was distracted by these thoughts, a ding sounded in his ear.

[Ding! Temporary Task: The progress of the dying city has changed. The second wave of enemies has been defeated. The third wave will arrive in 15 minutes. Please prepare for battle.]

Gu Xi quickly lifted his head upon snapping back to attention.

Another victory.

”Clean the battlefield, use up all the Deceitful Energy Pearls, and check for any losses in the combat squads. If there are losses, replenish the casualties, and place the skeletons’ corpses on the street.”

Gu Xi immediately issued orders.

Another battle was coming.

Judging by the strength of the earlier black Deceitful Shadows, Gu Xi could believe that the third wave would be even stronger.

Although the battlefield wasn’t cleared yet, Gu Xi quickly noticed that combat squad 1 and combat squad 2 suffered significant losses this time. If he didn’t enhance their combat power quickly and arrange the battlefield properly, the next battle would be difficult.

So first, troop optimization, then rearranging the battlefield, Gu Xi needed to ensure the battle occurred in the most advantageous location for him.

Upon receiving Gu Xi’s command, the skeletons hesitated not and swiftly moved forward to collect the Deceitful Energy Pearls scattered on the ground.

Without any direction from Gu Xi, the Deceitful Energy Pearls were split in half, with the Skeleton Boss of the combat squads taking half and the remaining skeletons sharing the other half.

Meanwhile, Gu Xi headed to where the Deceitful Shadow Boss had fallen.

The Deceitful Shadow Boss had left behind the large club it wielded when it died.

Gu Xi wanted to take a look at what it was.

As Gu Xi walked over, another voice sounded in his ear.

[Ding! Guided and strengthened by Mysterious Power, a level 2 skeleton has reached the promotion threshold. Please choose the advancement path for this kind of skeleton.]

Gu Xi turned to see a skeleton in the midst of the bone legion glowing with a faint purple light.

It was a skeleton from combat squad 2, still busy crushing the Deceitful Energy Pearls in its hand, absorbing the mysterious energy inside, completely unaware of what was happening.

When Gu Xi looked at this skeleton, he saw two different shadows appear behind it, indicating the two paths the skeleton could take for promotion.

One path was the ordinary Skeleton Soldier direction, holding a single sword, clad in rusty armor, with a somewhat oversized helmet that occasionally slipped down.

The other was the two-handed sword Skeleton Soldier direction, where it stood with its longsword embedded in the ground, wearing leather armor but with no helmet, revealing just a skull face.

Upon seeing these two types of soldiers, Gu Xi understood the situation.

Both advancement paths led to Skeleton Soldiers, but with different emphases.

Ordinary Skeleton Soldiers focused on balance, while the two-handed sword Skeleton Soldiers clearly had weakened defense in exchange for enhanced swordsmanship effects.

Gu Xi quickly made his decision after only a moment’s hesitation.

[Skeleton Soldier (Level 3, Summoned Creature): Experience (9/500) Attack 3+1 (Two-Handed Sword), Defense 1+1 (Leather Armor), Life 19, Skill Undead Creatures, Swordsmanship Specialization, Slashing Kill.]
