Ice Age Apocalypse: I Hoard Billions of Supplies

Chapter 966: The Difficulty of Promotion

Hermit Boone’s communication signal was cut off.

Throughout the Colombian Navy’s temporary command center, red alarm sounds echoed in the conference room, urgent and heart-racing.

This was an emergency alarm that only sounded when something very significant occurred.

An officer hurried over and reported to General Huo En, the operation’s overall commander:

”General, [Thor]’s communication signal has been cut off! It should be a communication equipment malfunction.”

Huo En suddenly raised his head, his gaze as sharp as a bald eagle’s.

”Communication signal cut off? How is that possible!”

The communication equipment was all integrated into the combat suits.

And the combat suits of Hell’s Lock were made from the highest-grade military materials.

Even if there was a mechanical failure, there were backups.

So this message meant that Boon was extremely likely already dead in battle!

The officer said: ”General, while I don’t want to say this, the intelligence indeed shows exactly that. And not long ago, Thor was pursuing that superhuman codenamed [Chaos], and...” He raised his head, cautiously glanced at Huo En, then continued: ”They engaged in intense combat.”

Huo En’s large hooked nose uncontrollably flared slightly, his breathing instantly becoming heavy.

He turned his head and looked at the rapidly flashing red dot marking Boon’s location area.

”You’re saying Thor has already been killed, correct?”

The officer responded truthfully: ”That possibility indeed exists. If not killed, then captured. I believe the former possibility is higher.”

He couldn’t imagine anyone being able to capture a member of Hell’s Lock alive.

Huo En’s expression was extremely dark as he stared at the location on the three-dimensional map, remaining silent for a long time.

Only the second day of the operation, and a member of Hell’s Lock was suspected dead?

This created a huge deviation from their plan.

Lieutenant Colonel Micah Colludy walked over and, seeing General Huo En’s gloomy expression, couldn’t help but swallow.

When they originally sent Boon to hunt Chaos, they all considered it a sure thing. Even if he couldn’t complete the mission, with Thor’s abilities, if he wanted to escape, few could kill him.

Yet now, the iron-clad reality was before them.

Boon was most likely dead.

”General Huo En...”

Huo En didn’t look at him, instead saying: ”Pull up that Chaos’s file! I want to see exactly how he could defeat Thor!”

Their collection of information about Zhang Yi wasn’t comprehensive.

Because Zhang Yi previously had no notable combat record at sea.

And the naval personnel who had seen him fight were basically all dead.

Cadillus did briefly engage Zhang Yi, but Zhang Yi only displayed his powerful defensive capabilities, nothing more.

Therefore, the intelligence collection wasn’t complete.

Huo En watched as his subordinates pulled up the file, his gaze profound as he stared at Zhang Yi’s information.

”This guy, what exactly does he want to do?”

General Huo En’s face was full of confusion.

”If he has such powerful strength, he should logically be competing for the Divine Source. So why is he hunting superhumans in the peripheral areas instead?”

”Could he be a decoy deliberately sent by Huaxu Kingdom to distract us?”

”No, impossible! Who would send such a high-level superhuman as a decoy? That would be equivalent to sending Navy SEALs to look for missing children.”

Colludy offered his own perspective.

”Perhaps for him, hunting superhumans is more valuable than competing for the Divine Source.”

”According to our intelligence, Chaos comes from the Jiangnan Region. And the Jiangnan Region’s strength is weaker than the East Sea Region’s, so this operation is led by the East Sea Region.”

”Therefore, even if Chaos obtained the Divine Source, he might not truly possess it.”

Hearing this, Huo En looked strangely perplexed.

”Does hunting still have meaning for him? His superhuman ability index must be at least above 9800 points, approaching the 10,000-point threshold!”

”Only the Divine Source can help him break through the Delta-level bottleneck.”

Colludy pondered for a moment before slowly saying: ”Perhaps he has no threshold?”

Huo En slightly frowned: ”What do you mean by that?”

Colludy rubbed his chin, ”Maybe his potential itself is Epsilon-level. So for him, he only needs to hunt high-level superhumans to complete his upgrade, rather than necessarily competing with others for the Divine Source.”

Pausing for a moment, he added: ”Just like [Billy the Kid].”

Hearing this, Huo En relaxed his furrowed brow.

”If that’s the case, then it’s even less reasonable. We all know that even superhumans with Epsilon-level talent find crossing that threshold not so easy.”

”If it were really that simple, the number of Epsilon-level individuals in Colombia now would at least double!”

Colludy’s face, however, revealed a strange smile.

”Oh, General Huo En. Maybe he simply doesn’t know about this?”

”According to the intelligence we’ve obtained, this superhuman codenamed Chaos has a cooperative relationship with the Jiangnan Region, rather than being directly subordinate to the Jiangnan Region headquarters.”

Huo En thought for a moment, somewhat surprised, and said: ”You mean to say that Huaxu Kingdom’s Jiangnan Region hasn’t been fully cultivating him? So a superhuman who should have become Epsilon-level has delayed his own advancement due to internal friction?”

Colludy said with a smile: ”Isn’t that very common? Their place has always been like that.”

”Capable people who don’t demonstrate loyalty and become someone’s trusted followers will definitely be underutilized due to suspicion.”

”[Connections] are more important than ability there.”

Huo En let out a long sigh and shook his head, saying: ”I can’t really understand it. But over the years, many outstanding talents from Huaxu Kingdom have indeed joined our Colombia.”

Colludy, however, said: ”This is good news for us!”

His gaze sharpened: ”If Chaos really is a quasi-Epsilon-level superhuman, we can completely eliminate him before he fully grows!”

”This way we can eliminate a powerful opponent in advance!”

Huo En nodded, agreeing with Colludy’s approach.

Moreover, Boon was dead. No matter what, they had to deliver a thunderous counterstrike to maintain the Colombian Navy’s dignity and intimidate their opponents!

Huo En placed his hands on the workstation, his eyes fixed intently on the three-dimensional map before him.

”Billy the Kid still has important work to complete. Don’t let anyone disturb him from obtaining the Divine Source.”

”So the task of hunting [Chaos] will be handed over to Uller to handle!”
