The Devil Does Not Need to Be Defeated

Chapter 135: An Unusual Noble

”Mr. Shien?”

Seeing that Shien wasnʼt responding, Melika showed an anxious expression like she did something wrong.

”What is it?”

Diere also looked toward Shien and asked him.

”Uuu…”

Lumia rather showed a hint of timidness when she looked at Shien. It seemed lie she was indeed more scared of Shien now.

But Melika didnʼt seem to be afraid at all. That was something that Shien didnʼt expect.

This elf girl seemed to have not been affected by what happened before at all. She continued to act as she did before.

No, from Melikaʼs actions, she had become more active in making conversation with Shien. It was like she didnʼt want for Shien and her to draw further apart.

That was in fact the reality.

Putting aside Lumia for the moment, Melikaʼs opinion of Shien didnʼt actually change at all.

For one, elves like Melika were able to steel their hearts against demons from the start. For two, Melikaʼs own feeling of closeness toward Shien were growing by the day. She already been having a hard time enduring the fact that she hasnʼt been able to talk with Shien over the past few days. She wouldnʼt have so suddenly turned the question toward Shien otherwise.

Shien didnʼt know any of that. He still thought it was due to the matter with Markray. The naturally kindly Melika was grateful, so she didnʼt end up fearing him.

Shien rather relaxed at that.

”Iʼm fine.” Shien shook his head as he turned back to the original question, ”Iʼm not like you guys. I came from the great sea of stars.”

That statement made everyone stop for a moment.

”The great sea of stars?”

Melika was dumbfounded. Lumia showed a complete lack of comprehension. Even Diere frowned as if she was searching her memories for any mention of such a place.

That was a waste of effort though.

After all, Shien was just sprouting random nonsense.

Itʼs not like he could actually tell them that he came from another world, right?

Thus, Shien continued to speak seriously.

”Itʼs normal that you havenʼt heard of it. Thatʼs because it is a place far away. It represents the unknown and hope itself, and is the goal that many people reach toward.”

Shienʼs words completely confused the girls.

”Is there really a place like that?”

Diere was completely suspicious.

”Of course.” Shien spoke without a change in expressions, ”Plus, that place is enormous and without bounds.”

Shien begun making such exaggerated boasts.

In the end, after dragging everyone around for a while, the question that everyone wanted to ask Shien was thus forgotten. Instead, it turned into a discussion over just what kind of place this great sea of starts really is.

It continued for five minutes, when Balon finally road back on his horse.

”Alright, weʼre entering the city.” Balon directly declared, ”After entering the city, the knights will be following me. The adventures can do as you like. You can head to the guild headquarters or look for inns. A notice will be given later when the Palace has determined when the audience is to be held.”

In other words, it was time to split up.

”Leon, please come with me to the magic item stores.” Eudrice immediately spoke impatiently to Leon next to her.

”Alright.”

Leon was somewhat hesitant. He seemed to have wanted to use this opportunity to do something. However, he was also rather unfamiliar with the Capital. Since itʼs his first time here, he ended up deciding that itʼs better to follow Eudrice, so he didnʼt object.

A point worth mentioning is that for the past while, Leon had stopped trying to get close to the girls of Vivianʼs party.

Given that Shien was there, Leon would do anything to keep away, so he naturally wouldnʼt dare to try to pester the girls anymore.

Alrith on the other hand had decided to first head to the guild.

”Since itʼs the main headquarters of the adventurerʼs guild, and itʼs situated in the capital at tht, the guildʼs quests and rewards should be quite worth checking out, right?”

Alrith rather wanted to take a look, and the fellow party members with him didnʼt have any objections either.

As for Vivianʼs party, they had their own plans too.

”Your place or mine?”

Vivian threw a strange question a Diere.

”Your place.” Diere knew what Vivian meant though, and she spoke with unusual dissatisfaction, ”You knew full well, right?”

”Basically.” Vivian showed a smile, but she continued to stare at Diere while confirming, ”Are you really not going back to visit?”

”No.” Diere coldly replied without hesitation, ”You know full well that I became an adventurer specifically to escape that place. I even accepted your invitation to go to Lamdrion partly because I wanted to get away from there.”

”… Alright.” Vivian was silent for a bit before speaking resignedly, ”In that case, letʼs head to my place then.”

Hearing that, Shien, Lumia and Melika finally understood just what Vivian and Diere were discussing.

The two of them were discussing, since theyʼve returned to the Capital, whether theyʼll be hosting everyone over at Vivianʼs home or Diereʼs home.”

No matter what, as people born in the capital, itʼs not like they can let everyone stay at the inns, right?

Thus, Vivian had already made the arrangements.

”Everyone come with me to my place then.” Vivian thus gave everyone a smile, ”Although, to be accurate, itʼs technically Leiliʼs place.”

After all, Vivian had lived with Leili.

”Is that really fine?” Shien raised his hand and brought up a question, ”I heard that guildmaster Leiliʼs family seemed to be some amazing high nobility. Can we really just casually head in without the person in question?”

Lumia and Melika nodded over and over. They too had such misgivings.

”Thereʼs no need for you to worry so much.” Vivian reassured them, ”Although Leiliʼs family is high nobility, her familyʼs actually rather unusual compared to the average nobles.”

Whatʼs different about it?

”Leiliʼs ancestor was actually the founder of the adventurerʼs guild. Way back when, they were a minister working beside the founding king and Hero. Following said kingʼs will, they founded the adventurerʼs guild with the aid of the Kingdom and then was eventually given a title and became nobility.”

Vivian begun explaining.

”Due to that, the family head of each and every generation of the Latrad family has always been the guildmaster of the adventurerʼs guild. Everyone in the family are also involved with work relating to the adventurerʼs guild. Leili is the only child of the current family head, so she too will eventually become the guildmaster of the main headquarters of the adventurerʼs guild and thus inherit the Latrard family. Thatʼs why sheʼd been sent to the adventurerʼs guild in another territory as guildmaster after reaching adulthood. Itʼs for the sake of gaining experience.”

Everyone was suddenly enlightened.

”No wonder the only child of a high noble family would end up acting as the guildmaster in such a remote town. So thatʼs the reason huh?”

Shien understood as well.

At the same time, Shien understood what Vivian was trying to say.

”The Latrad family is very friendly toward adventurers. You guys are also my and Leiliʼs friends. Each of you also have promising futures ahead of you, so the family head wonʼt be acting stingy toward you guys.” Vivian smiled, ”So just come along with me.”

Everyone gave each other a look, but in the end, they all nodded.

Thus, Vivianʼs party entered the capital.
