Cleaver Of Sin

Chapter 451: Sleep Room

”Tenth Sun, if you don’t mind, can you join us for a bit of discussion?” Baron Whale asked the very moment they stepped into the building.

Asher didn’t even need to think to decline the invitation, yet he didn’t speak aloud immediately. Instead, he paused for a brief moment, as though genuinely contemplating the request rather than rejecting it outright.

The next moment, he shook his head as he replied calmly, ”I would have to decline that request, Baron Whale, but thank you for the invitation,” he said, giving another small shake of his head as he spoke.

”But you don’t have anyone to talk to at the moment. Your friends are unconscious, so you might as well speak with us old men for a bit. The maids will inform you when they wake up, and then you can go to them,” Baron Whale countered as he explained his reasoning in a composed tone.

”I understand your point, Baron Whale,” Asher replied as he began to speak, his voice steady and respectful, ”but as their friend, and the one who inflicted those injuries, I have to be by their side,” he stated with finality, making his stance unmistakably clear.

Baron Whale paused for a moment before nodding. He dared not push the matter further, as he didn’t want it to appear as though he were trying to pressure or force the Tenth Sun into something he clearly did not wish to do.

Baron Whale then turned to a maid who was standing quietly at the side. ”Take the Tenth Sun to the sleep room,” he ordered, before turning back to Asher and giving him a respectful nod.

The other Barons and the Ladies present also nodded in acknowledgment. Asher nodded back at them in return, and without another word exchanged, they all walked away to discuss whatever matters they had intended to discuss among themselves.

Asher had no intention of sitting through a meeting of nobles, sipping tea or wine while they spoke in circles and maneuvered through layers of political discourse. His purple eyes shifted toward the maid who had been instructed to guide him. At his nod, the woman began walking with calm, measured steps, not daring to speak a single word.

Yet despite her calm exterior, her heart was beating faster than it ever had before. After all, a Wargrave was walking directly behind her.

’Do they call it the sleep room because unconscious people are taken there?’ Asher thought to himself, mildly curious. He had never really heard of such a place since his transmigration into this world. After a brief moment, he shook his head and dismissed the thought, deciding there was no point dwelling on such trivial matters.

They walked through a long hallway, passing several doors along the way, until they finally arrived before another door set slightly apart from the rest.

”This is the sleep room, Tenth Sun,” the maid said as she bowed, gesturing respectfully toward the door.

”Thank you,” Asher murmured in response. He noticed the immediate change in the woman’s expression upon being thanked, a flicker of surprise flashing across her face, but he didn’t dwell on it. Without hesitation, he stepped forward and pushed the door open, entering the room.

The sleep room was simply... empty.

There were only beds meant for the unconscious, with chairs placed beside them for those who were awake. Aside from that, there were merely a few light sources illuminating the space softly. Nothing more. No extravagant decorations, no unnecessary displays of wealth.

Asher shook his head and let out a small laugh as he walked further in. He had visited far too many noble chambers and rooms, to the point where he had subconsciously begun expecting every room within a noble estate to be excessively decorated.

He walked toward four beds positioned at the far end of the room. There, Caldor, William, Finch, and Annabelle lay unconscious, bandages wrapped around parts of their bodies. Although they had already been healed, the bandages were still present in several places.

Asher didn’t speak. He simply took a seat beside them. With a thought, a book appeared in his hand, and he began reading it without hesitation.

On the way to the sleep room, he had taken a brief detour to the library to retrieve a book. After all, he couldn’t just sit there and stare at the four of them, that would have been strange, even by his standards. Though his ridiculous memory allowed him to glance at a page once and retain its contents perfectly, he chose to read slowly and without rushing. He had no idea how long the four of them would remain unconscious, despite the fact that he had held back greatly during their spar.

More than half an hour passed before the first person began to stir.

Finch groaned in pain as he shifted on the bed, forcing himself to sit upright with obvious difficulty. Soon after, the Rivelle siblings followed, and then William, each of them letting out groans of discomfort as they regained consciousness.

”Urgh... I feel like shit,” Finch murmured, his entire body aching intensely.

”I can agree with that,” Caldor said as he adjusted himself on the bed with considerable effort.

Annabelle didn’t bother speaking. Instead, she raised a hand and gently touched her face, checking to make sure she hadn’t sustained any injuries or permanent marks.

William remained silent. He simply let out a quiet sigh as he sat upright. Unlike the others, he didn’t feel pain throughout his entire body, only a lingering ache in his shoulder from where his arm had been cleaved earlier. He raised his hand and touched his jaw, then his teeth, confirming that he felt no pain there at all.

”It seems you’re all alive and kicking,” Asher’s voice came from the side.

Their eyes immediately turned toward him, finding him seated there with the same calm, composed demeanor he had displayed back in the forest during the spar.

”We are, but the pain is killing me. Can’t the healer remove the pain or something?” Finch asked as he stared down at the bandages on his body, clearly puzzled. After all, he wasn’t bleeding, nor did he feel as though he was still injured.

”Healers can’t remove pain,” Annabelle began to explain. ”They simply heal the injury, but your brain still sends back feedback from the pain you experienced earlier. That’s where the bandages come in. They aren’t normal ones, they’re a specialized type used to reduce pain over time. That’s why we’re wrapped in them. In half an hour to an hour, we shouldn’t be feeling any pain anymore.”

Asher arched an eyebrow briefly before his expression returned to normal. It made sense that he didn’t know such bandages existed.

’It seems Virelass’ Crimson Pact ability can also dull pain,’ Asher thought to himself, recalling how every time Virelass healed him, the pain vanished as though it had never existed at all.

Besides, it was only natural that such bandages existed. Not everyone could afford to hire someone with healing abilities. Good healers were rare, and even when one could be found, the fee for their services was often outrageously expensive.
