The Martial Unity

Chapter 2831: Rebirth

Time slowed down in the eyes of those who beheld the black drop of poison fall.

They simply watched.

Helplessly.

Unable to move.

Unable to run.

Unable to hide.

Try as they might, their bodies were still frozen.

Paralyzed.

Cursed to watch as the black drop of poison fell to the ground.

And as it did, a single thought flashed through Ruiʼs mind.

ʼIʼm happy…”

Horror gripped his heart as he watched the gu poison strike the very land beneath him. ʼIʼm happy I left Amare behind.ʼ

And then, it struck.

The most powerful poison that the world had ever seen.

It struck heaven and earth a second time.

SPLASH

…

For a moment, all was calm.

For a moment, the world was tranquil.

For a moment, nothing happened.

And then, everything did.

RUMBLE!!!!!

A tremendous explosion of darkness erupted from the depths of the Gu, swallowing everybody in the battlefield in its deathly surge. In the blink of an eye, the entire world around them had been subsumed by the Gu poison.

It consumed all the Sages and monsters as black streaks of darkness emerged across their bodies. They coursed across the extraordinary Martial and beast bodies of the various members of the Gu ritual.

A moment was all it took.

Organ by organ.

Cell by cell.

It consumed the entirety of their very being.

Their existence.

And then, they died.

Metabolism halted.

Hearts ceased beating.

Neurons abstained from firing.

One moment, their bodies brimmed with power.

Brimmed with life.

And the very next, they were corpses devoid of power or life.

They were vessels of death.

The poison didnʼt merely kill them.

It seemed to snuff the very concept of life. It was as though the very concept of death bestowed upon them. And just like that, they died.

Without redemption.

Salvation.

Purpose.

They simply perished.

They, who were among the most powerful forces in the entire world in what was the most fierce battlefield in the entire world, were simply dead.

All of them.

”No…” A chilling whisper escaped the Demon of Asmodeous.

STEP

STEP

STEP

His gait was nonchalant.

He walked as though he was strolling across a garden of flowers.

As though he was enjoying the cool breeze of a spring night.

His long flowing black hair swayed back and forth gently.

His pitch-black eyes possessed unfathomable depths.

STEP…

He arrived before one man.

”You…” A chilling whisper escaped the Demon of Asmodeous as he gazed upon the fallen form of the Dawnbringer. ”You live.”

Darkness coursed through his body, consuming him alive.

With each passing second, it consumed his very life. The light in his eyes slowly began leaving.

The vigor of his heart slowly began to halt.

His mind began fading.

He was dying.

”And yet…” the Demon of Asmodeousʼs voice was chilling, ”…you live.”

Every Sage, every monster, every beast.

Every speck of life in the battlefield.

They were all dead.

And yet, Rui survived.

Even as he died, he lived.

The Fruit of Healing that he had consumed in conjugation with Soul Retcon applied to both Weaving Blood and Hungry Pain, he had reached a realm of recycling the dead that defied everything thought to be possible.

Each time the Gu poison inflicted death upon a cell, it was almost instantly broken down into its fundamental compounds and nutrients and used to fuel the healing and regeneration of the Healing Fruit and a Soul Retconned Weaving Blood which swiftly spread life across his entire Body.

The power of extraordinary grade-ten techniques working synergetically with a Transcendent-Grade treasure.

That was the reason that Rui just barely managed to hold on to life.

His body shook.

It shook as it fought against the death of the Gu poison with every ounce of power it was able to muster.

His fading eyes flared with defiance as he deployed every ounce of will to fight back. His fists clenched.

His teeth gritted.

Every cell in his body roared in its war against the Gu poison that consumed him.

”Rebirth…” A chilling whisper escaped the Demon of Asmodeous. ”To think you would fight my Death with rebirth.”

The faintest hint of interest and admiration lit up in the pitch-black abyss within his eyes.

A single whisper escaped him. ”Extraordinary. And yet…”

A bloodlust unlike anything Rui had ever felt before erupted in the deathly darkness of his eyes.

”…That is why you must die.”

Raw terror gripped Ruiʼs heart under the sheer singularity of malevolence he sensed from the Demon of Asmodeous.

A horror beyond even his wildest reckoning.

This man lived death.

He lived for death.

Everything he had ever done.

It was for death.

”Your power…” his tone was deathly, ”…exceeded my expectations.”

The faintest hint of displeasure appeared in his eyes. ”Your solutions. Your gifts. Your blessings…”

His eyes sharpened with darkness, ”…exceeded my imagination.”

He watched as the poison slowly spread through Ruiʼs body.

Bit by bit.

Inch by inch.

Cell by cell.

His death, despite his extraordinary resistance, was written.

”I do not wish for the Era of Darkness to cease.”

His deathly declaration bore heavy on Rui.

”I do not wish for the Dawnbringer to bring dawn upon the world.”

An ephemeral bloodlust bore down on Rui like gravity.

”I do not wish for you to intervene.”

His deathly gaze grew more malevolent.

”This world… this era…” his whispers were bone-chillingly dark. ”This Gu of a world…”

His dark gaze shifted to Rui. ”It is everything I need to forge my path to Transcendence. And you…”

His expression flickered with just the mildest hint of displeasure.

”…can ruin everything.”

The unfathomable abyss of death in his eyes stirred.

”After all…” he gently touched his pitch-black hair. ”You are marked…”

His pitch black-eyes sharpened, ”…just as I am.”

Rui shook at those words.

His eyes widened with shock.

Even as he fought a dying battle against the very embodiment of death itself, he found himself shaken to the very core of his being by the words of the Demon of Asmodeous.

”…Marked?” he choked out with every ounce of willpower as their pitch-black eyes met.
