Rebirth: The Courtyard Bride Is Cool and Radiant

Chapter 611: Chapter 611: Scheming

The next day, after Huo Jingrui sent Yunyi to the clinic, he took his chopping knife and headed up the mountain.

There wasn’t much firewood left in the woodshed of the backyard, and since they couldn’t leave for the time being, he naturally couldn’t let Yi’er be without handy supplies. Anyway, he wasn’t returning to the county until the afternoon, so it was the perfect opportunity to chop some more.

Ever since his memory returned, his martial prowess had been steadily increasing. Maybe it was the experience from several past lives, coupled with his body’s good constitution, and Yunyi’s spatial water for support. His progress, while not miraculously fast, was indeed impressive.

With his inner strength, chopping wood was naturally a piece of cake. It didn’t take long before he had chopped six large bundles.

Just as he was about to make a carrying pole, he noticed some people heading up the mountain together.

However, he didn’t pay attention to who they were; he just focused on using his chopper to carve the carrying pole, thinking that if he was going to carry six bundles of firewood, the carrying pole couldn’t be shoddy and give up halfway. It had to be done right.

Due to losing the Ye Family’s support, Zhang Wenjuan’s letter back to the Zhang Family was long overdue with no reply. She had reached a desperate situation. Today, there was a break for their team, and someone invited her to go up the mountain. She thought she might as well go and try her luck.

Unexpectedly, she encountered Huo Jingrui alone on the mountain. She hid behind a tree, occasionally peeping over, her eyes darting around, thinking: This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Even if it fails, it might at least irritate that vixen Chuyunyi.

Given her current situation, she thought, why not take a gamble? Maybe there could be a turn for the better. As for what happens afterward, it couldn’t be worse than now, could it?

So she took a few steps forward and said to her companions who were digging wild vegetables in front, ”I feel a bit uncomfortable in my stomach, going over there to relieve myself.”

No one thought much of it. The person closest to her said, ”Take a stick in your hand to knock around, in case there are snakes or bugs in the grass. Don’t hurt your white and tender butt.”

With this, everyone laughed.

Zhang Wenjuan was in no mood for small talk. She dismissed it with a few words and headed towards Huo Jingrui.

She thought everyone who came up earlier had seen someone chopping wood over there. She was the only one who knew it was Huo Jingrui. No matter what happened, as long as she put aside her dignity, it was bound to work out.

She didn’t know Huo Jingrui’s true identity, only that he had a formal job in the county, which was enough. If she succeeded today, she could not only escape her current predicament but also never have to worry about food and drink again.

The most important thing was that if she succeeded, she would have stolen that Chuyunyi’s man. Just the thought of it excited her.

After taking a glance back and seeing that her companions were out of sight, she quickened her pace toward Huo Jingrui.

Huo Jingrui had just finished carving the carrying pole. Three large bundles of firewood were stood up vertically, with two more laid across the top. Looking at his work, he never thought he would make such a good porter.

Suddenly, his brows furrowed, and his eyes narrowed.

However, he didn’t turn around. Instead of squatting to lift the firewood like others, he simply used one hand to lift the load onto his shoulder.

Zhang Wenjuan, seeing Huo Jingrui lift the load, rushed forward anxiously. When she was a step away from Huo Jingrui, she quickly unbuttoned her shirt and reached to grab Jingrui’s sleeve.

In the end, with a wave of Huo Jingrui’s hand, she was thrown aside.

But Zhang Wenjuan was really putting it all on the line. Even in that situation, she didn’t forget her plan: ”Assault!”
