Rebirth: The Courtyard Bride Is Cool and Radiant

Chapter 499: Chapter 499 Jealousy

The young man known as Liuzi cheerfully responded, ”Alright, please follow me.”

Yunyi hadn’t expected someone to be running a private dining restaurant at this time.

Huo Jingrui detected Yunyi’s confusion and explained, ”Uncle Nian is a descendant of imperial chefs, and his culinary tradition has been passed down for several generations. He originally worked as the head chef at a state-owned restaurant near Qianmen but left after being tricked by his apprentice.

”A chef can’t possibly teach all their skills to someone else, so naturally, the apprentice couldn’t fully learn Uncle Nian’s culinary art. Over time, people started to miss Uncle Nian’s dishes, so they began visiting his home for meals.

”Of course, not just anyone can come in; it must be someone introduced by an acquaintance. Since many people crave Uncle Nian’s cooking, naturally, some are willing to vouch for them. As time went on, this private dining restaurant came to be.”

After they entered the house and took their seats, Liuzi brought in tea. ”Please enjoy this tea first. As soon as the dishes are ready, I will bring them over.”

Having said that, he left the room.

Huo Jingrui poured the tea and then said, ”You guys chat first; I’m going to see what good ingredients Uncle Nian has.”

After speaking, he nodded to Ye Bingyu and Xia Dongxue, exchanged a glance with Yunyi, and then left.

Seeing Huo Jingrui was quite tactful, Ye Bingyu’s mood improved considerably. ”Yunyi, how did you meet him?”

Yunyi didn’t see any reason to hide it. ”We met when he was on a mission over there. We got along well, so we made it official.”

Xia Dongxue slightly furrowed her brows. ”Does his family know about you two, and what do they think?”

She had overheard that Huo Jingrui was from Beijing. Judging by his conversation, his family background seemed to be quite good. With such a background, she feared his family might have many requirements for a daughter-in-law.

Yunyi replied with a smile, ”We haven’t met the parents yet, but after we made our relationship official, his mother sent me a package. The second package hadn’t been sent out yet. Just as she learned I was returning to Beijing, she asked Jingrui to deliver it to me.”

The couple felt relieved upon hearing this. It seemed the Huo family valued Yunyi greatly.

Thinking about the dinner at the Huo family the next evening, she added, ”His mother invited me to dinner at their home tomorrow night.”

Xia Dongxue’s concern resurfaced. ”After all, it’s your first time visiting their home; you can’t go empty-handed. Here’s what we’ll do: I’ll prepare some gifts tomorrow and have your father deliver them so you can take them with you.”

Yunyi waved her hand dismissively. ”There’s no need for such trouble; I’ve already made preparations.”

Xia Dongxue was somewhat disbelieving. ”Yunyi, you’re our daughter; you don’t need to be so formal with us.”

Yunyi knew she might have misunderstood and explained, ”I really have prepared everything. His mother sent me quite a few clothes before, so I handmade a set for her. And as you know, I’ve been learning medicine since I was young and like to make skincare products. I prepared some skin cream for his sister. As for his father, I happened to receive a jar of fine tea leaves, so I’ll bring that.”

With these words, not only Ye Bingyu felt jealous, but Xia Dongxue also felt a pang of sourness. After all, they had yet to wear clothes handmade by their daughter.

But on second thought, a pang of heartache struck them. They owed their daughter so much. From her childhood, they had poured all their love into Wen Yue. What right did they have to be jealous?

Recalling the important reason they had sought out their daughter, Xia Dongxue took her husband by the arm. She spoke first, ”Yunyi, we saw the letter Wenhui wrote. The Ye Family will definitely give you an explanation for this matter.”
