Rebirth: The Courtyard Bride Is Cool and Radiant

Chapter 197: Chapter 197 Speak up, who is it, what are they making you do?

He became more and more pleased as he thought about it, but he didn’t notice that the path they were taking became increasingly remote and difficult to navigate.

By the time they reached the mid-slope of the mountain, even he, a grown man, was starting to tire physically, but the woman ahead continued to stride along effortlessly.

He thought, I mustn’t let her go any further. We haven’t encountered any villagers, so if I make my move in this place, her cries for help will be utterly useless. As long as I take her body, everything will be under my control.

His face wrinkled into a lecherous smile.

Just as Yunyi squatted down to pick up some mountain goods, he rushed over, intending to tackle her to the ground.

He lunged with all his strength, but unfortunately, what greeted him was a chestnut shell Yunyi had readied. It pricked him, making him scream out in pain.

Yunyi swiftly stood up and stepped on his back. ”Who are you, and why are you following me?”

Zhang Mazha obviously hadn’t expected this outcome and stubbornly denied stalking her. ”I’m not following you; I just happened to be walking here. I tripped over something, and that’s how I ended up falling towards you so coincidentally.”

Yunyi increased the pressure of her foot. ”Do you think I’ll believe that?”

Zhang Mazha let out a pained howl but remained defiant. ”I’m telling the truth! Hurry up and take your foot off me!”

Yunyi let out a cold laugh. ”Not telling the truth, huh?”

She picked up a twig and started poking at several of his acupressure points.

Zhang Mazha twisted on the ground like a maggot. ”What have you done to me, you little bitch?”

Just as he finished speaking, a sensation like insects gnawing him from within spread through his body. ”AH! You...”

He wanted to curse, but the intense discomfort wracking his body made him unable to form the words. ”I... I... really... you...”

Yunyi sneered internally, Oh, still a tough nut to crack? So stubborn, even now. Aloud, she said, ”Fine. Since you won’t talk, then just wait here to feed the wolves.”

With that, she started walking forward.

Zhang Mazha panicked. If she really leaves me here, I’m afraid I’ll truly die here!

Yunyi was not joking with him; she had other matters to attend to. Whether he lived or died was his own doing. And as for the person behind him, they wouldn’t escape her either. Although murder was a crime in this society, she had plenty of ways to deal with them silently. Having returned to the modern era, she wouldn’t actively harm anyone, but she certainly wouldn’t let herself be wronged.

Seeing Yunyi was truly about to leave, Zhang Mazha cried out in agony, ”Chu Zhiqing, I was wrong! Please let me go!”

Zhang Mazha was no good man, but he had a reputation for getting jobs done once paid, so many people sought his services. But facing Yunyi, his reliability was bound to be compromised. He was savvy enough to know that betrayal was better than losing his life; he wouldn’t be so foolish as to throw away his life for a few dozen yuan.

Yunyi stopped walking. ”Speak. Who is it, and what did they want you to do?”

Zhang Mazha now knew he had gravely underestimated the woman before him and dared not treat her with any disrespect. ”It was Deng Zhiqing from your production team who asked me to follow you, trying to ruin your reputation. She said...”

At this point, he hesitated, but seeing Yunyi still watching him, he bit the bullet and continued, ”She said you’re rich and good-looking. Once the deed was done, she would find a way to help me take you home to be my wife.”

Having lived through two lifetimes in the Ancient Feudal Dynasty, she had witnessed far too much evil. It wasn’t a matter of whether you thought you’d done nothing wrong; it was whether *they* decided you were in the wrong. So, after hearing his confession, she found nothing surprising.

Yunyi looked at him coldly. ”I’ve heard enough. Whatever she instructed you to do to me, you will deliver back to her, exactly as she planned it. If I’m even slightly unsatisfied with your performance, this place will be your grave. I always keep my word.”
