NIGHTS OF HALLOW

Sthena continued watching Perdita who was in his arms as she continued to drink blood from his neck.

It had been nearly an hour since he came to their house and she started to drink from him. Seems like the smell of the ritual affected her too much or could it be she had been blood-deprived for a long time?

He had to applaud the sibling’s self-control for staying for more than a decade now and had not drunk a human’s blood.

Well, aside from the blood pills made from human blood they had unknowingly been taking, the siblings haven’t drunk blood directly from a human, and this could be the reason why Perdita’s thirst did not look like it will be quenched any time soon.

Vampires depended on blood, specifically human blood. Both born and turned vampires needed human blood to keep them going and alive.

They could take other blood as a supplement when a human’s blood was not available, and they cannot also depend fully on it without taking human blood at least once in a while. If not, they were likely to become like deranged vampires when they eventually drank human blood.

This was the same situation with Perdita right now. Having deprived herself and her body of the blood that was essential for her to stay alive, and finally getting to taste it directly from the warm and original source, she couldn’t stop her large thirst for the blood.

It was as if Perdita’s stomach increased twice what it was before. One would question where all the blood was going. The answer to this was, the body of a vampire has a fast digesting system that made it possible for them to drink as much as they wanted. Sometimes, they may end up not satisfied with the quantity they had drank.

Sthena gently brushed Perdita’s hair away from her face with the back of his hand. His hand traced the length of her hair down to her neck and he stopped there. He held the back of her neck and gently pushed her head backward.

An irritated groan escaped Perdita’s lips when she felt herself being separated from her food. She made to swarm back on Sthena’s neck but the firm but gentle grip of Sthena’s hand on her neck held her back.

Her now red dazed eyes peered into the dark red eyes of Sthena staring back at her. She was slowly regaining her consciousness but her eyes were still in a daze. With the ritual’s smell still in the air, it continued to affect her making her lose her self-control over blood.

Sthena released her neck while his right hand still held her waist to keep her in place. He used his left hand to clean the traces of his blood on her lips and whispered,

”That’s enough, Perdita. We should take you out of the village to keep out the smell of the exorcism ritual.”

It was as if the words of Sthena held some trance that kept Perdita in place. She continued staring into Sthena’s eyes and suddenly fell unconscious in his arms.

Sthena scanned the room with his eyes and with a snap of his fingers, he locked the door from the inside and the second, he teleported from there with Perdita in his arms.

Sthena and the unconscious Perdita who was in his arms appeared inside the castle.

Sthena had directly teleported them inside his room in the castle as it was the only place he knew that would be free from any maid who might be cleaning the castle.

He walked towards the large bed in the room that was spacious enough to contain up to five persons in it.

Sthena gently laid Perdita on the bed and covered her with the thick duvet before removing the hood coat leaving him in the inner black shirt he wore.

He walked to the closet and took out a small white towel. He took it with him and disappeared behind another door that was attached to the bedroom which was where the bathroom was.

Sthena walked out of the bathroom with a small bowl in his right hand and the other holding the towel.

Walking towards the bed where Perdita lay, he put the towel inside the bowl containing cold water. He brought out the dripping towel and wrung the water out of it before using it to wipe Perdita’s face.

He repeated this process three more times while making sure he didn’t disturb her sleep. Finished cleaning her face, he placed the cold towel on her forehead and left her to sleep comfortably in his bed.

Sthena didn’t leave the room, instead, he went to the couch in the room and sat down with his leg stretched and placed on top of the small table in front of him.

He placed his head on the headrest of the couch as his thoughts went back to what happened earlier to have Perdita in his arms and on his bed sleeping peacefully without a care for the world.

Earlier that day,

Perdita was about to sink her fangs into Mrs. Perkin’s neck when suddenly, Sthena appeared in the room.

He saw what was about to happen and immediately pulled Mrs. Perkin out of Perdita’s grip.

Mrs. Perkin who was terribly shaking and was on the verge of collapsing became more petrified when she saw Sthena suddenly appear in the room. If it was possible, her eyes would have rolled out of their sockets.

”My, my, my,” Sthena said in a sing-song tone while watching the state the siblings were in. ”Looks like someone is about to have a delicious meal.”

Perdita groaned in an irritated voice because of Sthena intervening in what she was about to do.

She rushed towards him to grab Mrs. Perkin but didn’t get the chance to because Sthena had disappeared again, taking Mrs. Perkin with him. He didn’t waste a minute before teleporting back to the room and was met with an angry Perdita.

Sthena turned to look at the weak Marco that held his stomach as if he was in pain.

Sthena ignored the furious Perdita and walked up to Marco. He crunched to where he sat on the floor and questioned,

”What is wrong with you?”

It took a while before Marco opened his mouth in great pain to answer the question.

He said, ”I d... don’t know. It feels like m...my insides are twisting.”

”Do you still feel the urge to drink blood?” Sthena further questioned and saw the boy nod his head.

Sthena held a thoughtful look on his face as he regarded Marco. He had a slight inclination of what might be wrong with him. He had a suspicion that he was yet to confirm about the siblings. But with what was happening to Marco now, he might have been right all along. But he must confirm this before making a final conclusion on it.

”Give me your hand,” Sthena said and stretched his hand toward Marco.

The pain Marco was feeling was incredible as if felt like he swallowed a thousand pins and they were all pinching and scrapping his intestines. He couldn’t even stretch his hand toward Sthena and his outstretched hand.

Seeing this, Sthena reached out and grabbed the hand of Marco. He turned to look at the angry and dazed Perdita and said, ”Stay here, I’ll be back.”

Sthena teleported with Marco from the room and appeared in another room where a man stood with his back bent towards the table where several equipments and some unknown things were littered.

The man abruptly turned to see who the intruder was that suddenly barged into his house.

The man’s head was quick to bow when he saw it was the king. ”Your Majesty,”

Sthena waved his hand in the air and signaled the man to stand straight. He pointed at the silent Marco who was still trying to digest what just happened because of the sudden disappearance from his house and the reappearance in another house.

The excruciating pain that hit his body came at full force again almost knocking him to the ground.

Sthena was quick to grab the unsteady Marco before saying to the man, ”Look into him and see what’s wrong with him. Don’t forget, he’s a vampire.” Sthena let the man know.

The man’s brows rose in surprise. He had never seen a vampire with a human eye color. And there came the excitement glint that flashed in his red eyes to experiment on him.

”Touch him more than you should, and you’ll be the next royal doctor to die.” Sthena did not beat around the bush with his threat the royal doctor knew he would surely do.

”I’ll be back in an hour, I have something to attend to,” Sthena informed and turned to Marco, ”He’s going to see what is wrong with you. Don’t try anything silly.”

Marco faintly heard what Sthena said and slowly nodded his head. The pain was not allowing him to speak.

Without wasting a second more, Sthena teleported from there and reappeared in the house of Perdita again.

Immediately Sthena’s legs touched the ground, Perdita as if she had been waiting for him rushed towards him and grabbed his collar.

The unsteady step of Perdita and Sthena’s legs that haven’t balanced on the ground caused Sthena to fall back because of the push from Perdita.

Sthena was surprised at the sudden attack and before he knew it, he had already fallen back. But luckily, there was a chair behind him on which he fell and sat.

Perdita still holding his collar followed suit which resulted in her sitting on the lap of Sthena and she immediately sank her aching fangs into his neck which made Sthena hiss in pain at the rough attack of Perdita’s fangs.

Everything happened so fast that Sthena did not have any other choice but to let the woman in his arms drink blood from his neck.

The warm blood of Sthena rushed into the mouth of Perdita and the taste was heavenly as it glided down her throat. Her lips were quick to suck and nib on the tender flesh of Sthena’s skin for more blood.

This unconscious act of Perdita made the hand of Sthena holding Perdita’s waist tighten around it. He gritted his teeth and a curse almost escaped his lips at the sensation that traveled down his body while having Perdita’s lips on his neck as she sucked on it.
