Facing an Ancient God for a Year

Chapter 972: Chapter 970: Domestic Affairs on the Way Chapter 972: Chapter 970: Domestic Affairs on the Way “That was no mere drinking affair!”

Although he too had been interrupted that night.

“Come with me, we’ll talk on the way.”

After giving Fu Qian a severe glare, Lanaia sighed.

Even the things she saw at the scene made her lose her appetite for quite some time.

“Next time you stir up trouble, at least give me a heads-up, do you know how much effort I put into cleaning up your mess…”

“If it weren’t for someone holding them back, Heaven’s Commencement Institute and Divine Ashes Institute would have nearly come to a literary skirmish… even during several management meetings, they were about to come to blows, no, Cass from the Kamakura Family has already made a move…”

“Anyway, those days were utter chaos, I still feel dizzy thinking about it…”

Following Lanaia, Fu Qian got into her car and, amid her roaring commentary, gained a preliminary understanding of the situation that unfolded after he killed the Divine Ashes Institute tutor Ian.

It appeared that Cass, who seemed to stand firmly by him, had actually made a move already back at the Academy.

“So Lily ended up like that because of Ian, trying to become a Demigod?”

As he pondered, Lanaia suddenly changed her tone and quietly asked.

“Yes.”

Fu Qian nodded; it wasn’t surprising that she knew about this.

After Ian’s death, retracing his own steps, finding that the Yin sprawl was as normal as could be.

Qiao Yanchuan and Lily’s anomalies couldn’t have been hidden from them either; some things were easy to guess.

“Good kill!”

…

“But no matter what, you’re still going to be in some trouble.”

Without any reservation about claiming Ian deserved to die, Lanaia began to outline the predicaments facing Fu Qian.

“Although no one saw it directly, your motorcycling heroics were still recorded by some surveillance along the way, you can’t escape the identity of a murderer.”

“Furthermore, the evidence indeed leans towards that guy deserving to die, but the Divine Ashes people are still unwilling to admit it, continuously quibbling.”

No one saw? Even if the one blown into the wall didn’t see his face clearly, there should be another person.

Lanaia’s words made Fu Qian think of a certain Sword Heart Enlightenment prodigy.

It seemed that Ji Liushuang, even if told directly about the intention to kill, still chose to keep it a secret.

“What about the Night Watchman?”

“They don’t know much, or pretend not to know much. After all, Ian is dead, and Yuan Fang, who handles daily affairs, has a bit of a relationship with us.”

Yuan Fang… this name Lanaia mentioned made Fu Qian feel a moment of disorientation.

He certainly knew she meant the Night Watchman from the Yuan Clan, but the Prophet with the same name from Unseen Hillock piqued his curiosity about his origins.

“In any case, although the Night Watchman is inclined to let us handle it internally, severe warnings are inevitable, which has made the Academy quite unhappy with the Divine Ashes crowd, so their attitude towards you is also quite extreme.”

Fu Qian remained silent as Lanaia continued.

“They firmly believe Ian was innocent and are trying to prove it.”

“Humans as usual.”

Fu Qian wasn’t surprised, having encountered Ni Huayuan before who was clearly not a unique case.

“So they should be eager to act now?”

“Not just them. I came here upon the Night Watchman’s notification, and no doubt I need to submit a report to them.”

“But no matter what, your decision not to go back directly was wise. On one hand, you haven’t given the Divine Ashes crowd the chance to cause trouble, and on the other hand, being seen by the Night Watchman before you return makes the Academy’s stance seem more natural… as long as what you just said is true.”

Lanaia looked at Fu Qian with a very serious gaze.

“Don’t worry.”

Fu Qian could be considered remarkably calm.

“I never did like lying.”

…

During their conversation, the two of them had officially entered the Academy’s grounds.

Observing the unfamiliar vegetation before him, Fu Qian deeply felt his own lack of dedication to his work.

However, this particular route did seem somewhat familiar to him.

“Is this the way to your residence?”

He asked out of curiosity.

“Aren’t we having a three-session overnight tribunal?”

“Everyone is very busy, do you think coordinating schedules is easy? And before that, to avoid any scandal, it’s best you don’t meet anyone—wait, how do you know this is the way to my residence?”

In the midst of speaking, Lanaia suddenly realized and widened her eyes in surprise.

“Is it possible that you once brought me back here after a night of drinking?”

Fu Qian casually spoke the truth.

…

Naturally, Lanaia wouldn’t believe Fu Qian’s explanation.

But she didn’t dwell much on these trivial matters, directly ushering Fu Qian upstairs and even to the very same room.

“Stay here, don’t go anywhere until this matter is resolved.”

“Believe me, you wouldn’t want to run into Ni Huayuan and his lot. Those guys have a real knack for being unpleasant, and of course, you must avoid running into anyone from Heaven’s Commencement Institute as well…”

“Why is that, aren’t I considered a good citizen endorsed by Cass? My reputation in Heaven’s Commencement should be solid, right?”

Fu Qian was clearly puzzled.

“That’s exactly why!”

Lanaia sighed deeply.

“As the group within the Academy with the worst reputation, particularly despised by the Divine Ashes Institute, your definitive action of killing one of their professors has undoubtedly won you a legion of supporters, and most crucially, the dearly departed Ian left behind some rather valuable experimental material, which delighted many as much as a festival would.”

“Anyway, considering that those people’s minds are somewhat abnormal, I don’t want to stir up any more trouble.”

It felt like the latter was the actual point.

Fu Qian nodded in understanding.

“Thank you for the reminder, I appreciate it.”

“It’s just part of the job, and like I said, beasts like him are better off dead.”

Lanaia snorted coldly, then remembered something.

“However, there is someone you really should thank—Ji Liushuang from the Swordsmanship Department. That young lady, due to her unique Sword Intent, was specially brought in to analyze and assess the mental state of the attendees at the banquet.”

“Normally, those from the Divine Ashes Institute would be most suitable for the job, but because of issues of partiality, it’s best to avoid that.”

“That young lady took the task very seriously, not letting a single person off the hook, and she was a huge help.”

“Keep in mind that these are not merely libidinous fools; you can imagine how disgusting some aspects were.”

Indeed, that made sense.

The image of Old Master Qiao caressing his scars surfaced in Fu Qian’s mind.

Last time, Ji Liushuang hadn’t mentioned it.

“Right then, I’ll go see her once things are settled here. Also, just talking about it doesn’t seem sincere enough, don’t you think? What about taking her as my disciple?”

“Don’t make more trouble for me!”

Lanaia, who was about to leave, shuddered at the suggestion.

Taking a star student as a disciple—wasn’t he just asking for trouble? And did he even know how to use a sword?

“Besides, she isn’t here right now, so there’s no need to rush.”

“Not here?”

Fu Qian couldn’t hide his surprise.

“Yeah, there was an investigation on Ye Island not long ago. She didn’t return with the others afterward; apparently, something came up with her family.”
