Facing an Ancient God for a Year

Chapter 722: 720 Chapter 722: 720 “That is Yasui Tokiyuki, the King of Ye Island.”

Although Su Gao did not understand Fu Qian’s actions, she did not delve deeper and learned to focus her attention on the television show like Fu Qian did.

And after watching for a moment, she quickly pointed at someone on the screen and said,

What? This is the King of Ye Island?

Fu Qian looked at the target Su Gao was pointing at.

Through the camera lens, this legendary figure at first glance was nothing more than an ordinary old man.

He had a fairly upright figure, a slender build, white and gray hair, and even had on dark-colored glasses on his face.

“Isn’t this King of Ye Island a bit too approachable?”

The next moment, Fu Qian commented.

The dignified King of Ye Island was actually appearing as a guest on a variety show, critiquing each male and female contestant who came on stage.

Yes, even though Fu Qian did not often watch television, the show, infamously known by everyone—a glance was sufficient to tell it was something like a talent show.

And in just this short while, Fu Qian discovered that the level of bizarreness far surpassed any he had encountered before.

The first contestants to take the stage, regardless of gender, shared the notable feature of having a loud outlaw nickname, such as Phoenix, The First Cause, King of Boxer Briefs, Glute-Lifting Sage, and so on, truly broadening one’s horizons.

And the acts they performed were variously extravagant.

Fu Qian watched, wide-eyed, as a sweet-looking girl tied two earthworms into a knot with her tongue.

“Compared to other major organization leaders, Yasui Tokiyuki is indeed relatively less mysterious, usually making more public appearances.”

In the face of the farce on the screen, Su Gao showed no reaction on her face and patiently continued in her introduction to Fu Qian.

“As the creator of Yasui Corp, Yasui Tokiyuki is nearly two hundred years old, without any publicly acknowledged offspring.”

“According to the Night Watchman’s records, he may have run into some issues during his early ascension to Divine Envoy, which is why his condition has always been poor. Of course, given his special status and so much time having passed, the authenticity of this information is still to be verified.”

“As of now, he is the sole Emperor of Yasui Corp.”

“Emperor… is that their term for the Second Phase?”

Fu Qian quickly grasped the meaning of this title, just like the doctorate titles previously awarded to Cynthia and the others, were internal aliases for hierarchical position at Yasui.

Given Ye Island’s style, it was hard to avoid some “chuunibyo” in their naming conventions.

“Yes, at least superficially, Yasui Corp still appears to have a Divine Envoy at the helm.”

Su Gao nodded.

“Based on the information I had at the time, there were suspicions that Yasui Tokiyuki, in order to resolve his own problems, covertly supported some actions of the Native Council.”

Why am I not surprised at all?

After hearing Su Gao’s words, Fu Qian thought to himself, momentarily recalling his own numerous dealings with the Native Council.

This secret organization, truly gives off the impression of a technology peddler, using their knowledge as bait to stir up trouble everywhere.

Miracle Elixir!

The next moment, Fu Qian thought of something.

He had analyzed before that this rigid exhaustive approach, was almost impossible to yield true results, especially for high-level subjects.

For Yasui Corp to take such immense risks for such borderline activities, was almost certainly a losing proposition.

But they did it anyway, and did so ostentatiously—it’s hard to imagine it’s simply for fulfilling the dreams of young people.

Thinking about it now, could this be one of the conditions set by the Native Council?

Yasui Tokiyuki sought them out as technological consultants, and in exchange, they required Yasui Tokiyuki to use his influence to conduct these sorts of public benefit tests?

Considering my past contacts with the Native Council, indeed, it’s not impossible they’d have such a technologically-inclined demand.

While pondering, Fu Qian’s gaze remained on the screen before him.

In it, Yasui Tokiyuki, amidst the attention of thousands, was lavishly praising the contestant who played with earthworms as disgusting.

Wow!

With his commentary, the venue instantly erupted into cheers, and the contestant’s face turned red with excitement.

What is all this stuff!

Fu Qian rubbed his forehead, feeling as if he had suffered some kind of spiritual attack.

But without a doubt, the contestant’s excitement was genuine.

“I don’t know much about this, but it seems to be a concept that has become popular on Ye Island in recent years.”

Su Gao frowned slightly, clearly not very appreciative of this either.

“The initial reason might be the pursuit of Transcendent powers.”

“Given Ye Island’s fervent atmosphere, ordinary people who have no chance with Transcendent powers began to fabricate certain special concepts for their own amusement, such as the concept similar to legendary status, which they call infamy.”

“The specific philosophy is simple, it’s about competing for other people’s recognition, striving to make more people know about oneself. Whether one is good or evil is not important, and as a result, the means are completely unrestrained.”

So that’s how it is.

Fu Qian understood where the bizarre actions and the exaggerated nicknames in the show came from.

“As for this program, it should have been organized by Yasui Corp later on, considering their influence on Ye Island and even with Yasui Tokiyuki directly appearing, undoubtedly it has immense influence.”

“I can imagine.”

Fu Qian watched as a contestant, who was being carried off but still loudly shouting his own nickname, nodded in acknowledgement.

“You think there may be a problem with this?”

Fu Qian’s concern with a show piqued Su Gao’s curiosity a bit.

“Hard to say, I just feel, it’s very suitable for someone whose miracle didn’t happen, and who has a shattered Dao heart.”

“Kagetsu Kana?”

Su Gao instantly understood Fu Qian’s meaning.

“Her strange behavior, you think it might be related to these things?”

“As far as I know, it wasn’t there before, but without a doubt, she’s very well-suited for this.”

Fu Qian recalled his interactions with Kagetsu Kana.

“Also, there’s a small problem, just like with the Transcendents, nobody can possibly self-proclaim their own rank. The common people, since they amuse themselves with this, must have some way to distinguish the pecking order—wait a minute, I think I know.”

Midway through speaking, as the camera on screen switched, a group of people had actually arrived at a temple.

Inside one of the buildings, there was a crystal-clear, huge boulder that looked like a human-faced toad at first glance.

Men and women lined up as if facing judgment, placing their hands on it one by one.

Soon enough, sounds varying in pitch, akin to a buzz, emitted from that plump belly.

Interesting!

Hearing the show host’s exclamations due to a particularly loud sound from a contestant, as he excitedly awarded him with a sharply designed badge on the spot, Fu Qian understood how infamy was ranked.

It has to be said, with this addition, as entertainment for the masses, it was very fitting.

But isn’t it a bit too coincidental?

A group of fun seekers playing gags, Yasui Corp getting involved to amplify the influence, and just so happening to possess a means to make it definitive.

Yasui Tokiyuki, you’re so daring, does the Night Watchman know about this?
