Facing an Ancient God for a Year

Chapter 568: Chapter 568: Beauty (End)_1 Chapter 568: Chapter 568: Beauty (End)_1 Although subconsciously, Suzune Kagetsu was reluctant to discern even the slightest flavor, as the hot soup touched her lips, a unique aroma still lingered between them, tempting her to immerse herself in it.

She had actually drunk that soup!

Hunger subsided almost instantaneously, but the accompanying realization caused Suzune Kagetsu’s stomach to convulse violently.

“Not too bad, right? Young people should try new things.”

Across the dining table, the Man-Eater Demon wearing the bright red turkey mask let out a series of low chuckles at the sight.

“Please believe me, I really have no ill intentions towards you. I just wanted to open the door to a new world for you—”

“You! Go! Die!”

Anger, fear, self-disgust, various intense emotions resonated within Suzune Kagetsu’s heart, like a balloon stretched to its limits, finally exploding completely.

Cold light flickered, and a sharp blade shot out from Suzune Kagetsu’s hand.

In the midst of blood spraying, the voice beneath the mask stopped abruptly.

Sitting there, Fu Qian’s head was once again decapitated, slowly sliding off and then rolling to one side with a spin.

The strike was so swift that even the body remained leaning on the chair, not yet fallen.

Clearly not expecting it to be so easy, Suzune Kagetsu stared blankly at the scene for a few seconds, then lowered her head and focused on the bowl of soup in front of her.

Mushrooms?

In the remaining broth, one could clearly see that it wasn’t the imagined brain pieces but several white mushrooms floating.

It was mushrooms! She hadn’t drunk soup made from human brains!

The moment this realization hit her, Suzune Kagetsu felt a great relief.

At the same time, she quickly assessed her surroundings and noticed that other than the decapitated corpse, the living room seemed quite calm, with no strangeness to be seen.

Even the fog outside the window had already dissipated.

She had indeed fallen into a nightmare-like illusion, but now she was free.

There were no injuries on her body, and it seemed the other party had no intention of further attack.

Please believe me, I really have no ill intentions towards you…

Recalling the other person’s last words, Suzune Kagetsu realized an issue—the guy might not have intended to kill her but merely wanted her to drink that bowl of soup in the illusion.

Why? Just for some perverse pleasure?

Amidst her confusion, that elusive aroma seemed to reappear in her mouth.

Staring at the turkey head that had rolled to the floor, Suzune Kagetsu felt only disgust and absurdity from this entire event, mixed with a tinge of fear.

Suppressing the urge to stomp and crush it, Suzune Kagetsu forced herself not to think about the source of her fear and bent down to tear off the turkey mask.

Underneath the mask was an unexpectedly unfamiliar face.

How is this possible!

This surprise was no small matter, and Suzune Kagetsu had never anticipated such a turn of events.

This person wasn’t Darcy, which made his Transcendent identity more plausible—was he a bodyguard hired by that guy?

But setting aside the cost of a Transcendent bodyguard, after revealing her identity as a Night Watchman, it was hard to imagine any wild Transcendent being so dedicated as to continue fulfilling their duties.

Or was he not a wild Transcendent?

Suzune Kagetsu had a startling thought.

On Ye Island, apart from the Night Watchman, there was undoubtedly a vast organization.

Yasui Corp had connections with this Man-Eater Demon, deep ones at that…

One had to admit, it was a possibility.
Suzune Kagetsu’s mind raced; the series of previous clues began to connect vaguely in her mind, and she swiftly realized another issue—

Never mind who the dead person was; if Darcy was not here, where had he gone?

This question evidently gave Suzune Kagetsu quite a start, and she instinctively looked outside, only to notice that the sky was already growing dark.

How long had he been trapped in the hallucination just now?

The time was approaching six o’clock, and Kagetsu Kana would soon complete the last test of the Miracle Elixir…

Suzune no longer hesitated, rising to head straight for the door.

As she stepped out, this time she wasn’t transported to any bizarre place.

Confirming that the hallucination had really dissipated, without taking time to relish her narrow escape, Suzune rushed towards Yasui Tower.

…

“Is there something else you need from me, Lady Suzune?”

The Night Watchman burst into Yasui Tower in a rush, undoubtedly startling a bunch of staff.

Then Kana, following with a heavy step, furrowed her brows at the sight, her already foul mood darkening further.

“No, there’s nothing.”

Seeing Kana emerge in one piece, with no parts missing, Suzune breathed a sigh of relief and directly asked.

“Did you see Darcy today?”

“No,” Kana replied, her face showing an expected displeasure.

“Why don’t you go to his place if you want to find him? You took away the invitation, didn’t you?”

That place, she really had no desire to visit it again.

Feeling Kana’s full resentment, Suzune recalled her own recent experiences.

“His dinner party isn’t going too smoothly.”

The reason for the difficulty was a lack of ingredients, you being the necessary ingredient.

She kept the latter part unsaid.

Suzune looked around, having the faint feeling that the scumbag was hiding in a corner, greedily watching Kana.

“I’ll take you back to your sister,” she offered.

…

Faced with Suzune’s suggestion, Kana was clearly a bit averse.

But the cold tone of the Night Watchman made her refrain from voicing any objections.

…

[Current mission completed, subject code “3-0530” containment successful]

At the same time, in Darcy’s living room, the headless body sitting on the high-back chair moved slightly.

The next moment, flesh writhed, and Fu Qian’s head slowly emerged from the severed neck, perfectly reconnecting in the blink of an eye.

The plan was proceeding smoothly!

Looking at the open door, Fu Qian nodded in satisfaction.

There was no doubt that Kana’s test had ended smoothly and, as a failed case, had been discarded.

But every cloud has a silver lining. After the recent sequence of thrills, he believed that for a long time to come, she would be able to gain a Transcendent bodyguard.

And with her still relatively sensible sister watching over her, she should be able to avoid death for a while.

Best of all, both the Night Watchman and Yasui Corp would undoubtedly believe that Kunio was killed by Suzune, herself included.

Considering that the situation was completely baffling, and the “dead” Kunio seemed merely to be stalling time without showing any intent to kill, it was highly probable that the Night Watchman would not seek retribution for this matter.

As for Yasui Group, the disappearance of a case of improper Miracle Elixir administration, even to the point where the observer sent had lost their head, was clearly a warning from the Night Watchman.

With such a reprimand, they would likely behave for quite some time.

So now, Kana was like a seed that had slipped from the farmer’s grasp.

The surveillance project known only to him began, codenamed “Beauty 9527”.
