Worthless Profession: Dragon Tamer

Chapter 1172, I Shall Ride You?

Now that a consensus had been reached, the matters that followed were straightforward.

With the Devouring Dragon King’s aid, the tide of battle was bound to shift dramatically.

Lu Fan had originally intended to ride the Devouring Dragon King. After all, he possessed the Dragon Saddle, and so long as he entered his Riding State, the Attributes of both parties would stack together, rendering him far stronger.

Lu Fan thought quite highly of himself, certain that after the Dragon Bloodline Enhancements, his own Attributes were something no ordinary Player could possibly match.

With Attributes like his, saying he stood shoulder to shoulder with Divine Beings was honestly not much of an exaggeration.

Add to that Xiao Cui’s various Buffs, and the Attribute Enhancement from the Little Blade Armour Dragon King, and Lu Fan was, without any shadow of a doubt, a true monstrosity.

Perhaps, when compared to a fully grown Dragon King like the Devouring Dragon King, he still fell somewhat short. But his Attributes were absolutely not something the Devouring Dragon King could afford to simply ignore, were they?

If Lu Fan were truly to Ride her, the Devouring Dragon King’s Attributes would also receive a considerable boost, and would that not give them a greater advantage when fighting the Slaughter Ancient God?

As it happened, the very moment Lu Fan was about to raise this suggestion about Riding, the Devouring Dragon King shot him a withering glare that sent the idea hurtling right back at him.

The contract the two of them had signed was not a Master-Servant Contract, yet in any strict sense, the Devouring Dragon King was still one of Lu Fan’s Pet Dragons.

There existed between them a certain degree of spiritual connection, and so whatever thoughts Lu Fan entertained, the Devouring Dragon King naturally perceived them at once.

“You brat, don’t you dare get any ideas about Riding me!” the Devouring Dragon King warned in a cold voice. “The last time I allowed it was because the enemy we faced was far too terrifying. Unless absolutely necessary, I am nothing like those Pet Dragons of yours. The dignity of a Giant Dragon, and a Dragon King at that, must not be humiliated! I would never allow just anyone to casually ride upon my back. That is simply too degrading!”

Lu Fan listened, shook his head helplessly, and said, “Alright, fine. If that is how it is, then fight harder. If it turns out you cannot handle the Slaughter Ancient God in a moment and have to come asking me to Ride you after all, that would be even more embarrassing, wouldn’t it?”

“You…” The Devouring Dragon King was more than a little displeased by Lu Fan’s attitude, yet said nothing further.

After all, Lu Fan had promised her a Divine Seat belonging to an Ancient God. Before she obtained that Divine Seat, the Devouring Dragon King still needed to maintain this alliance with him.

Lu Fan’s teasing just now was no more than a small joke.

At this critical juncture, whether or not he could Ride the Devouring Dragon King was hardly the point. The point was whether they could kill the Slaughter Ancient God, and that was the absolute priority.

At that very moment, Ouyang Bai Ge’s Void Insects were on the verge of being completely wiped out.

Though Ouyang Bai Ge’s Void Insects had been cultivated specifically to counter the Slaughter Ancient God, it was abundantly clear that things were not proceeding as smoothly as she had imagined.

When one thought about it, it made sense. A counter was a counter, and winning was winning; they were not the same thing.

It was rather like how Assassins did indeed counter Mages, yet if one put a Sixth Profession Mage up against a Second Profession Assassin, even if that Mage stood perfectly still and did not move, the Assassin would never be able to harm him.

In the face of a vast enough difference in power, so-called counters were nothing but a joke.

Had it been otherwise, Ouyang Bai Ge would have long since claimed the title of God King.

After all, she possessed a thorough understanding of every Ancient God. Cultivating Void Insects capable of countering each and every one of the great Ancient Gods should, in theory, have allowed her to surpass all the rest, should it not?

Watching her Void Insects on the verge of total annihilation, the Devouring Dragon King spread her wings and launched herself upward, cutting straight toward the Slaughter Ancient God.

“Come, then. You claim to be one of the strongest Ancient Gods, right? This Grandma wants to see just how powerful you Ancient Gods truly are!”

*Roar!*

With a single earth-shaking bellow, the Devouring Dragon King’s three heads simultaneously opened up their jaws, unleashing a torrent of Dragon Language Skills in every conceivable Element.

In an instant, the monstrous Skill Power erupted and expanded outward, startling every onlooker into wide-eyed astonishment.

What the Devouring Dragon King unleashed were not, by any technical measure, High Tier Skills, yet the sheer power behind them was beyond all exaggeration, rivalling nothing short of a Divine Skill!

Such power was not of what Lu Fan’s own Pet Dragons could have produced.

The Devouring Dragon King was, after all, a Dragon King, of the same rank as Xiao Ye and the others.

And simultaneously, she was a fully grown Dragon King seasoned through countless battles, such that the power she displayed was something even Lu Fan had to regard with genuine admiration.

Even the Slaughter Ancient God found itself somewhat unable to hold off against the Devouring Dragon King’s assault. The metallic-lustre scales across its body shattered and split apart beneath the barrage of Skills, exposing the flesh and blood beneath.

“What a formidable Dragon!” The Slaughter Ancient God’s voice detonated in the minds of everyone present in the form of a shockwave to the Soul.

“In this era, you should be one of the peak existences, should you not!? The Fallen Corpse Ancient God truly did set a rather ‘appropriate’ set of Principles for this era, to have given rise to creatures of such terrifying power! It is precisely because existences like you are capable of threatening our Ancient Gods’ safety that we must erase this era and allow it to cycle onward. Otherwise, given another few tens of thousands of years, even Ancient Gods would likely no longer be a match for creatures like you.”

To be told she was nothing more than a product of this era was enough to kindle a nameless fire deep within the Devouring Dragon King.

It was as though in the other party’s eyes, she was no more than a clay figure pinched into shape, one rung below them in station.

Though the truth of it was, in fact, exactly that. Who could truly resign themselves to being regarded as the labour of others’ hands, rather than a living, breathing creature in their own right?

All the more so now, when her very power had prompted the other party to consider erasing her existence.

To survive, she had no choice but to turn the tables.

“It is far too late to think about erasing us now!” The Devouring Dragon King threw herself upon the Slaughter Ancient God, unleashing Skills all the while as she plunged into close-quarters combat.

In an instant, the Magic Attack and the raw brutality of her physical body were laid bare in all their glory within this battle.

Even the Slaughter Ancient God, whose very nature lay in slaughter, found himself losing ground in this melee, clearly suppressed by the Devouring Dragon King.

Yet naturally, the Slaughter Ancient God was not so easily overwhelmed.

Throughout the course of his battle with the Devouring Dragon King, his wounds continued to recover, each recovery transforming into a catalyst that further elevated his own power.

In the midst of fighting the Devouring Dragon King, the Slaughter Ancient God Power was growing at a rate far faster than before!

Barely any time had passed since Lu Fan joined the battle when he felt the other party’s power surging in relentless waves, reaching a point where even the Devouring Dragon King struggled to keep him suppressed.

Lu Fan was well aware, of course, that the Devouring Dragon King was presently the core combat strength in the fight against the Slaughter Ancient God.

He was not stingy about it, either. He promptly had Xiao Cui transform into her Soul Light Form and attach herself to the Devouring Dragon King, elevating her strength by yet another leap.

If it had not been for the need to keep the Little Blade Armour Dragon King close to protect himself, against the chance of a sudden and violent death, Lu Fan might have even considered throwing the Little Blade Armour Dragon King over to the Devouring Dragon King as well, letting her equip both at once and experience what it felt like to receive truly ‘premium treatment’.
