Worthless Profession: Dragon Tamer

Chapter 1113, The Sacred Yei Family, Yei Xiu

Translator: Silavin

*Hmph!* The crimson armoured young man had wanted to stop them, but it was already too late.

His eyes narrowed slightly, the displeasure clear.

Had Situ Ying not intervened at the last moment, he could have effortlessly kept everyone behind and slaughtered them all.

A mere handful of Fourth Profession and Fifth Profession Players, killing them would have been no different from wringing the necks of chickens and dogs.

But Situ Ying’s final burst of power had taken him by surprise, managing to delay him by a few seconds.

And it was precisely those few seconds that had cost him the chance to cut down the last two survivors.

That said, it hardly mattered. His mission had always been to intercept the goods that the Situ Family was delivering to the Sacred Yei Family, and to bring those items back to the Sacred Jiang Family to use to repair the altar.

Not long ago, a mysterious figure had broken into their Sacred Jiang Family, prompting the Slaughter Ancient God to personally take action. But, by doing so, the altar had been damaged.

Though the altar served no truly practical function, out of respect for the Slaughter Ancient God, the Sacred Jiang Family was naturally obliged to restore it as swiftly as possible.

At the same time, the Sacred Yei Family had been one of those Sacred Lands that had taken part in the siege against the Sacred Jiang Family all those years ago. By every measure of reason and sentiment, they had every justification to strike against the Sacred Yei Family.

The people had been killed. The targeted items had been seized. That was enough.

As for eliminating the witnesses?

The crimson armoured young man saw no need for that.

After all, the survivors had no idea who he was. Even if they returned to the Situ Family, what could they possibly do?

Even if the matter were reported to the Sacred Yei Family, he did not care.

For he was someone who had been expelled from the Sacred Yei Family two hundred years ago.

Should the Sacred Yei Family learn of his existence, they would only feel dread.

What vexed him was merely that he had been too careless! He had failed to kill them all!

Watching the light of the Transport Array gradually fade and disperse, the crimson armoured young man did not linger here any further.

He turned and walked towards the wreckage of the Sacred Ship in search of the Secret Realm Stones used to transport the goods.

All the tributes destined for the Sacred Yei Family were stored within those Secret Realms, and once the Secret Realm Stones were activated, everything inside could be retrieved.

…

Elsewhere, at the Situ Family.

The Situ Family’s Transport Array Hall was thrown into chaos by the arrival of two devastated and dishevelled young men.

Word spread swiftly through the entire Situ Family, that Situ Ying had been killed, and the offerings bound for the Sacred Yei Family had been plundered. Situ Xiong, Situ Hengxing, and the other senior figures of the Family were instantly seized with fury.

They took the two Situ Family Juniors aside and questioned them in detail about precisely what had happened.

The two men steadied their nerves and recounted everything clearly, including the Combat Power, appearance, and identity of the crimson armoured young man.

The crimson armoured young man’s identity, however, was something even the Situ Family could not confirm. They combed through every record in the Situ Family’s archives and found not a single thread of information relating to the man.

With no other recourse, the Situ Family had no choice but to report the matter to the Sacred Yei Family.

After all, the man himself had said he had come specifically for the Sacred Yei Family. This meant that the Sacred Yei Family should have some knowledge of his identity.

Two days later, the Sacred Yei Family did indeed send word in return, informing the Situ Family that they had already confirmed the crimson armoured young man’s identity.

However, his identity was extraordinarily unusual. He was none other than Yei Xiu, a man who had defected from the Sacred Yei Family many years ago.

This Yei Xiu had once been a young man who shone brilliantly within the Sacred Yei Family. He was one of its top geniuses.

Furthermore, he was a member of the Sacred Yei Family’s direct Bloodline. Given his talent, he had even been considered a potential contender for the position of Sacred Master of the Sacred Yei Family. (= to Patriarch)

Yet despite his exceptional gifts, he had cared only for advancing his own strength, with little interest in competing for power.

He was equally poor at political intrigue and wanted no part in the Family’s internal struggles. He simply wanted to devote himself to improving his own abilities.

His indifference to the contest over the Sacred Master position meant nothing, however. After all, there were still those who viewed him as a threat.

For in their eyes, this man was simply too extraordinary. Should he desire it, he could readily launch a challenge for the position of Sacred Master.

To those who harboured ambitions of inheriting that position, his very existence was a menace that could not be allowed to stand.

And so, entangled in the schemes of power, Yei Xiu was eventually struck down by treachery. It was said that someone had used his Mother as bait, luring both Mother and Son into a Secret Realm known as the Eternal Night Cave, where they were slain.

From that day forward, Yei Xiu’s name was struck from the Sacred Yei Family’s records.

Naturally, this account had been embellished by the Sacred Yei Family before being passed to the Situ Family. But the Situ Family were not fools. They understood all too well the nature of such power struggles.

The current Sacred Young Master of the Sacred Yei Family was the very man who had been behind Yei Xiu’s death. So of course he would present the affair as nothing more than ordinary internal Family conflict.

Regardless, the crimson armoured young man’s identity could now be considered confirmed. He was almost certainly the Yei Xiu, who was supposed to have died that day.

The grudge between Yei Xiu and the Sacred Yei Family’s Sacred Young Master stretched back more than two hundred years.

In other words, Yei Xiu was already over two hundred years of age.

The current Sacred Young Master of the Sacred Yei Family already showed signs of age. He looked about the same age as Situ Xiong.

Yet Yei Xiu still appeared to be a young man. It was, without question, extremely strange.

That said, the Situ Family had previously investigated matters relating to the Sacred Jiang Family and knew that such things were not particularly unusual among the Sacred Lands of the Western Border.

Every one of those who claimed to hail from the Sacred Jiang Family had retained the appearance they wore before their disappearance, whether this was deliberate or whether they truly possessed extraordinary longevity and did not age or die, was unknown.

But one thing was certain: Yei Xiu also bore a grudge against a Sacred Land, and like those others, his appearance had not changed with the years. Now, he had returned, seeking vengeance against the Sacred Yei Family.

Every last detail pointed in the same direction as those who had come from the Sacred Jiang Family.

Though Yei Xiu had not explicitly declared his origins, the people of the Situ Family were almost certain he too was a member of the Sacred Jiang Family, who had come back to exact his revenge on the Sacred Yei Family. They too understood that their own Family had merely been caught in the crossfire.

After sending over the intelligence on Yei Xiu, the Sacred Yei Family also called upon the Situ Family to cooperate with them in hunting down and eliminating him.

The Sacred Yei Family’s urgent demand that the Situ Family help kill Yei Xiu suggested they had likely known of his existence for some time, and had already suffered greatly at his hands. They had simply been unable to locate him and so had kept quiet about his existence.

Now that Yei Xiu had reappeared, the Sacred Yei Family would naturally not let the chance to pursue him slip away.

Every Supreme Tier Ancient Noble Family took the protection of their high-ranking members extremely seriously.

The Situ Family was no exception. To ensure the safety of their Family members, they had deliberately cultivated an Alchemist who had refined a special item unknown to outsiders.

Situ Ying, for instance, had carried upon him a brand left by that Alchemist.

Whenever someone killed Situ Ying, that brand would follow the killer. As time passed, the brand’s power would grow ever stronger, until eventually, the Situ Family’s people could lock onto the killer’s location.
