Death Game: Starting as a Trickster, Pretending to Be a God

Chapter 837: The Truth and the Scheme

The sight of the Holy Relic faction master and disciple pointing guns at each other at the drop of a hat left the other players, Lin Yu included, somewhat stunned.

However, no one stepped in to help Fish.

After all, thanks to Phoenixʼs power-level explanation, everyone was well aware that Galli Thontasʼs combat strength definitely surpassed everyone present.

And even without that explanation, the fight between him and Fish was mostly ”horseplay” in nature.

Fish only used [Grace], and every shot she fired was precisely intercepted mid-air by bullets from Galliʼs revolver.

After several minutes of continuous shooting, Fish finally grew tired and voluntarily lowered her flintlock.

”You old man, the rare times I come to Night Valley and see you, all you do is ruin my mood,” Fish said indignantly. ”You open your mouth and expect us to just hand over our trophy... If thatʼs how itʼs going to be, then Iʼm not leaving. Iʼll just stick to you—you owe me a dark creature so I can clear this dungeon!”

As she spoke, Fish looked at the others: ”The remaining four, each of you pick one and kill it. This is my master, so I can just directly mooch off him!”

”Sister Fish is so generous! Such loyalty!”

Kui gave Fish a thumbs up.

Then, Fish turned to Galli Thontas with a huffy expression: ”I really donʼt get whatʼs so precious about a single snake descendant!”

Unexpectedly, when Galli Thontas heard Fishʼs words, he shook his head again.

”No, Fish, I donʼt need you to stay... In fact, thereʼs only one person who can stay.”

As he spoke, he pointed at Lin Yu, who stood beside Fish.

Fish glanced at Lin Yu, then looked back at Galli Thontas: ”Ha, old man, you sure know how to pick!”

”You picked the one person who saved my life and helped me out big time in this [dungeon]!”

”Let me tell you right now, aside from me, Sister Fish, none of the other four are staying!”

Galli Thontas was getting genuinely annoyed by Fish: ”You idiot, your master makes every decision for a reason... If you keep threatening me, Iʼll kill all five snake descendants here!”

”None of you are leaving!”

Fish crossed her arms: ”Fine, then kill them. Iʼll bring them all to mooch off you. If you refuse to own up, Iʼll go find Senior Brother Kasse. Worst case, Iʼll find a big city, lie down in front of the Mercy or Life Church, and let everyone know that you, the Legendary Adventurer and founder of the Holy Relic faction, bully your own disciple!”

”Old man, Iʼve got all day to burn with you today!”

Seeing Fish being completely immune to both soft words and hard threats, Galli Thontas was fuming: ”You canʼt even understand plain speech. How did I end up with such a blockhead as a disciple?!”

”Didnʼt you beg me to take you as your master back then?”

Fish shot back sourly.

Just as the master and disciple were about to clash again, Lin Yu spoke up unhurriedly.

”Sister Fish, forget it—all of you should just go.”

”What about you, then?” Fish looked at Lin Yu seriously. ”After we leave, how is a ʼSecond Tierʼ like you supposed to clear this dungeon?”

”Iʼm ʼSecond Tier,ʼ not some fresh player who hasnʼt experienced promotion. With the [Golden Cross Medal] in hand, I can clear this anywhere outside Lilee... Iʼll just find a city where the Tribunal of Heresy Inquisitor has half a brain, make up an excuse to get a weak dark creature on its last legs, and kill it on the spot.”

Lin Yu said calmly.

”What if that old bastard tries something against you? Let me tell you, heʼs shady as hell!”

Fish pointed at Galli Thontas and spoke gravely.

”Itʼs fine. I trust him. After all, heʼs humanityʼs greatest adventurer,” Lin Yu said with a serious expression. ”Being ʼshadyʼ toward dark races is called wisdom and strategy... Galli Thontasʼs scheming would never be directed at humans.”

”Besides, Galli Thontas never said he wouldnʼt help with my dungeon clearance, right?”

Lin Yu looked at Galli Thontas, and the old man nodded.

”Thatʼs right, Fish... I said dark creatures are everywhere, and by that I meant itʼs not hard to find you all another one!”

Galli Thontas said irritably, but Fish remained skeptical.

”Then go find one first before you talk!”

”Where would I find the time? The barrier is already gone. In a moment, the three major churches and the Maro Empireʼs people will all be here!”

Galli said helplessly again.

”Alright, bottom line, all of you just leave—weʼre all humans here. Would I harm you?”

Galliʼs tone shifted to something brooking no argument.

With things having reached this point, and Lin Yu having no objections, the four players, despite their reluctance, killed the snake descendants that were already gasping their last breaths on the ground.

The moment the snake descendants died, their figures vanished from where they stood.

Raymond had already been standing guard outside.

So, in an instant, only Lin Yu and Galli Thontas remained in the room.

And after Fish left, Galli Thontasʼs feigned ease melted away, his expression turning grave.

”Your Excellency, who exactly are you?”

Just as Lin Yu had anticipated...

From the very beginning, Galli Thontas had been after him.

”Same as your disciple. A player.”

Lin Yu looked at Galli Thontas and said calmly.

”Thatʼs not what Iʼm asking. You should know why Iʼve come,” Galli Thontas said, pulling a blood-soaked finger from his chest and tossing it to the ground. ”The Inquisitor of the Tribunal here, Nitsanchi—he made some kind of deal with you, didnʼt he?”

”You killed him?”

Lin Yu asked curiously in return.

”No. Though he isnʼt entirely innocent, his crimes donʼt warrant death,” Galli said offhandedly. ”Besides, I want to see how far that ʼOriginal Sin Wraithʼ can grow. In ancient times, that thingʼs ceiling was pillar-level—it might bring some variables to the Abyss... To completely eradicate the dark races and wipe out the Abyss, individual strength alone wonʼt cut it.”

”So youʼve known about his plan all along and have been staying in Lilee.”

Lin Yu nodded in realization.

”So itʼs this variable youʼve introduced that piques my curiosity,” Galli said, looking at Lin Yu with a deep voice. ”That Death Sleep Technique wasnʼt cast by those five snake descendants at all—it was released by the ʼOriginal Sin Wraithʼ... You had it hypnotize the entire population of Lilee on your behalf.”

”Moreover, those five snake descendants werenʼt actually there to seize the Original Sin Wraith. His deal with the snake descendants was already struck long ago—those five snake descendants were already under his control.”

”His original plan for today was to have those snake descendants pretend to invade Lilee, release the ʼOriginal Sin Wraithʼ under the cover of chaos, and thereby fabricate a ʼfalse originʼ for the wraith—making everyone believe its appearance in Lilee was caused by the snake descendantsʼ arrival, thus ʼlegitimizingʼ his act of taking the ʼOriginal Sin Wraithʼ into custody.”

”But your appearance not only ruined his plan, you also made him willingly gift you five snake descendants as a ʼpresentʼ—thatʼs no small feat!”
