Death Game: Starting as a Trickster, Pretending to Be a God

Chapter 789: Bloom of Life and Death

Even though Shen Bingmiao had caught him off guard, Lin Yuʼs professional instincts kicked in, and he smoothly caught the sudden shift in focus.

In fact, even the awkward smile on his face was deliberately designed.

After all, Lin Yu knew... Shen Bingmiao wasnʼt doing this to sabotage him.

Considering her relationship with Grandmaster, there was even a chance Grandmaster had deliberately brought up this topic.

Bringing up this subject was essentially the same as what Li Hua had done earlier when mentioning his code name—it was actually giving him an out, letting him fully explain things in this setting where he had just rendered meritorious service.

Even though he had already explained the matter of Zhu Ming once before, now that she had brought ”Thousand-Eyed Thousand-Silk Demon Lord” to defeat A-Yin, he had to go over it again.

So Lin Yu picked up his teacup, took a sip, and began to speak.

”Everyone, I canʼt guarantee my perspective will be completely objective—after all, I do have a rather deep emotional connection with her... But if I were to say it, I donʼt believe Zhu Ming is someone who would use the Thousand-Eyed Thousand-Silk Demon Lord to threaten social security and stability.”

”Admittedly, she is a dangerous figure and doesnʼt possess particularly high moral standards. Thatʼs actually why we parted ways... But I believe, first of all, she still has boundaries.”

”Zhu Ming doesnʼt have an obvious antisocial personality, nor does she have extreme tendencies to do anything for profit. Even if she might do things that donʼt comply with Orderʼs regulations, sheʼs far from being insane.”

”Secondly...”

Lin Yu paused here for a moment. ”Although her personality is indeed obsessive and she has a strong need for control, this obsession and desire for control all stem from her pride.”

”Her pride is a double-edged sword. It drives her to do many extreme things out of ambition, but it also determines... that she has a certain degree of ʼcleanliness.ʼ”

After Lin Yu finished speaking, Grandmaster nodded.

”I understand...”

”Very valuable insight,” Shen Bingmiaoʼs cold electronic voice came from the tablet. ”I will incorporate Directorʼs opinion into my comprehensive assessment of Zhu Ming.”

”Furthermore, if she does use the Thousand-Eyed Thousand-Silk Demon Lord to do anything out of line...”

”Feel free to hold me accountable.”

Lin Yu said, looking at the tablet computer.

”Zhu Ming doesnʼt have an obvious antisocial personality, nor does she have extreme tendencies to do anything for profit. Even if she might do things that donʼt comply with Orderʼs regulations, sheʼs far from being depraved.”

The electronic voice rang out, and Grandmaster nodded.

”That would be excellent.”

Lin Yu also nodded, putting on an expression of righteous solemnity, but inside he felt extremely helpless.

Sure enough, his senior had quite the twisted sense of humor.

But he had to admit, this solution was indeed very favorable to him.

It was a roundabout reminder that while he should try not to use the ”Zhu Ming” identity to cause trouble with Zhu Qiansi, if he really did use it... she would still fight for some wiggle room for him.

Even just letting ”Director” be responsible for catching ”Zhu Ming” was already an extremely advantageous arrangement.

However, after Shen Bingmiaoʼs interruption, the rest of the celebration banquet proceeded normally.

With Tycoonʼs impassioned speeches, everyone either reminisced about old times or exchanged intelligence.

Bi Fang, Snowy Owl, and Loquat Candy also each found opportunities to express their appreciation for Lin Yu.

At the same time, Lin Yu learned that Tycoon had also invited A-Yin and Nicholas to this table, but neither of them had the face to come after losing their matches.

”A-Yin said that of the three victories, two were won by Night Watchmen comrades, while Order only managed to beat you once. He really wasnʼt in the mood for a feast, so he went back to train and hopefully advance to Third Tier soon.”

”As for Nicholas, he should already be in Night Valley Realm collecting materials to repair his ʼChristmas Elvesʼ and meanwhile giving his ʼReindeerʼ extra training.”

Loquat Candy sighed with emotion, then looked at Lin Yu. ”But youʼre really impressive too. The injuries you sustained during the match were all healed by the end.”

”After all, I also have the Doctor ability. Just eat some consumables and Iʼm good.”

Lin Yu said with a smile.

Amidst the pleasant eating, drinking, and casual conversation, time passed quickly.

Feeling that enough time had passed, Lin Yu used going to the restroom as an excuse, planning to check the Free Alliance group chat messages again.

But just as he walked out of the banquet hall, he heard hurried, soft footsteps behind him.

And a faint voice.

”Uh... hmm... well...”

Lin Yu turned around and unsurprisingly saw Robin.

”Whatʼs wrong?”

He looked at Robin, who spoke quietly.

”Well... you advanced to Second Tier, and now youʼre the Assistant Team Leader of Jiangcheng. I havenʼt had a chance to congratulate you yet, so... congratulations...”

Lin Yu watched Robin staring at her own feet, unable to help but let out a small laugh.

”Just congratulations? You didnʼt have to chase me out here for that, did you?”

”Itʼs not just that, actually... well, itʼs,” Robin said cautiously, ”I mentioned before that Iʼm really grateful to you... So, so I have a thank-you gift I want to give you. Is that okay?”

”Who gives gifts like that, asking if itʼs okay?” Lin Yu chuckled. ”Just take it out... Of course, if itʼs too valuable, I canʼt accept it. Order has regulations.”

”Itʼs not valuable, itʼs a painting I did myself...”

Robin quickly shook her head, then pulled out an ornate picture frame from her bosom.

It was the size of a standard 8K sketch paper, drawn in pencil like a still life sketch.

Although it was only a black-and-white monochrome drawing, it was extremely detailed, as if it had been polished for a long time.

The main theme of the painting was a blooming flower. The flower used its center as a central axis, dividing the image into eight sections. Each section was a different kind of flower, all pieced together to form a gorgeous bloom.

Each section had distinctly different botanical characteristics.

Arum, iris, mallow, orchid, crucifer, chrysanthemum, water lily, lycoris.

And upon closer inspection, hidden within the petals of each section were different styles of firearms.

”This is...?”

Lin Yu sensed the extraordinary nature of this painting, and his expression turned serious.

”[Bloom of Life and Death]. Itʼs Fluoxetineʼs Exclusive Item,” Robin said softly. ”She calls it Gunflower herself... If you take this painting, you can project her Exclusive Item once.”

”This is the effect of my Exclusive Item, Replicate Art... Fluoxetineʼs Exclusive Item is quite powerful. It can be used as a trump card to save your life.”

”And if you want to deal with her, actually using her Exclusive Item once will help you better understand her abilities...”

”Even though youʼre only at Second Tier now, maybe one day youʼll find it useful.”
