Death Game: Starting as a Trickster, Pretending to Be a God

Chapter 728: Negotiations from Different Standpoints

”Getting hit builds resentment, which in turn strengthens yourself, then using the massive healing and physique from pre-consumed potions to power through injuries—what a crazy fighting style... Only someone from ʼOrderʼ could produce a lunatic like this!”

Li Nian sat on the rooftop, muttering to herself.

”Team Leader Good Night is indeed going all out, but I think itʼs just that todayʼs opponent is too perfect for him. If it were anyone else, they wouldnʼt be able to spark his fighting spirit like this.”

A faint voice drifted from behind Li Nian.

She turned around and saw a figure she wasnʼt surprised by.

”Oh, if it isnʼt ʼMay May,ʼ” she said, standing up and pulling out her utility knife. ”Whatʼs up? There are two one-on-one fights going on downstairs—are we about to start a round too?”

Lin Yu shook his head. ”No such intention... Compared to the four down there, our combat power is too insignificant. Whether I kill you or you kill me, it wouldnʼt change anything. Even if I win, if Paper Kite and Good Night lose, it wouldnʼt matter.”

Li Nian pursed her lips. ”Thatʼs a bit self-deprecating, isnʼt it? Didnʼt you escape from the ʼDivinerʼ himself?”

”That was honestly pure luck... And besides, setting aside rational considerations, emotionally speaking, Iʼm not really eager to fight you.”

Lin Yu said, then walked right up to Li Nian and, despite the girlʼs wariness, slowly sat down next to her.
Watching Lin Yu be so magnanimous, Li Nian thought for a moment before also sitting down.

”Whatʼs your angle here? Are you sentimental because we let you go last time?”

”Thatʼs part of it, but only a small part... Mainly because Xia Yue said a lot of good things about you,” Lin Yu said calmly. ”Youʼre pretty close with her, arenʼt you?”

Li Nian didnʼt deny it. ”Closer than youʼd imagine.”

”She doesnʼt have many friends. I donʼt want the world to lose one of the few people who care about her, since she canʼt even go back home,” Lin Yu said, lowering his eyes. ”Sheʼs already pitiful enough.”

Hearing Lin Yuʼs words, Li Nian felt a complex and genuine emotion in his tone.

Worry, regret, appreciation, nostalgia, dissatisfaction... All sorts of feelings were woven into it, making it hard not to wonder what kind of history the two of them had.

But Li Nian still felt a bit displeased. ”Oh? Are you that close to her?”

”And you, a member of ʼOrder,ʼ how close could you possibly be with someone from the ʼPsychological Societyʼ?”

Lin Yu didnʼt answer immediately. After a few seconds, he let out a somewhat dazed sigh.

”Anyway, closer than you can imagine.”

He paused, then added, ”The relationship between her and me should be closer than anyone else in the world.”

Hearing such a blunt statement from Lin Yu, Li Nian didnʼt know how to respond.

”Alright, fine, you win.”

She said sullenly, ”But Iʼm going to advise Sister Zhu Ming to stay far away from you. And she might not even think youʼre that important anyway.”

Lin Yu laughed again upon hearing this. ”That would actually be for the best.”

Li Nian was completely exasperated.

”Fine, great, very impressive.”

She clearly didnʼt want to continue this topic.

”But youʼd better remember, even if we donʼt fight today, itʼs not because you spared me—itʼs because I spared you.”

”After all, Iʼm ʼSecond Tierʼ and youʼre just ʼFirst Tierʼ!”

As Li Nian spoke, Lin Yu looked at her.

”Thatʼs fine, consider it as you repaying a favor.”

”When did I ever owe you a favor?”

Li Nian asked back, annoyed.

”You do. I took you through the God of Changeʼs [Dungeon], and I havenʼt settled the score with you for stealing my bike yet.”

Lin Yu said, and Li Nian stared at him.

”Huh? Itʼs you?”

”Is my appearance really that different?”

Lin Yu pointed at his face and asked.

Prompted by Lin Yu, Li Nian looked closely at his face and then suddenly realized, ”You really do look alike... But why couldnʼt I tell at all?”

”And werenʼt you a ʼSoldierʼ?”

Lin Yu sighed. ”Of course, because I can also use multiple ʼClassʼ abilities.”

”As for my appearance... I was wearing makeup before.”

Li Nian was enlightened. ”So thatʼs it, you actually have a ʼUnique Class.ʼ I knew that guy the ʼPsychological Societyʼ values so much couldnʼt be simple... And besides, Sister Zhu Ming wouldnʼt just casually hang out with some random guy off the street.”

”Weʼre not in that kind of relationship, donʼt talk nonsense,” Lin Yu corrected. ”But... you donʼt seem very surprised either.”

”Rather than surprised, itʼs more like a lot of things suddenly make sense,” Li Nian said with a sigh. ”First of all, a genius favored by the ʼPsychological Societyʼ couldnʼt just disappear out of nowhere... Secondly, ʼMay Mayʼ suddenly popping up—if we had someone this talented in Jiangcheng, I should have at least heard of them.”

”You mean ʼstolen from,ʼ” Lin Yu corrected.

Li Nian made an ”eheh” expression.

”But I am curious, why are you telling me all this?”

”Is it just because of Sister Zhu Ming?”

”You could say that. Itʼs precisely because of her that I think youʼre trustworthy,” Lin Yu said calmly. ”But... Iʼm telling you this because I need more ʼcompanions.ʼ”

”Canʼt you find them within ʼOrderʼ? This is violating ʼOrderʼsʼ rules, isnʼt it?”

Li Nian asked, puzzled.

”Rules donʼt matter much to me. What matters is how I achieve my goals.”

”Although I do have my limits and Iʼm not the type to do anything for my goals, in my opinion, as long as the means and process align with my own values and morals, thereʼs no problem,” Lin Yu paused. ”Besides... cooperating with you is far from crossing any line.”

”ʼFree Alliance,ʼ ʼPsychological Society,ʼ ʼMaraudersʼ... Even if their organizations have a dark background, it doesnʼt mean everyone in them is my enemy. Similarly, not everyone in ʼOrderʼ is a good person.”

Li Nian pursed her lips. ”Alright, Iʼll take that as a compliment.”

”But now, at least for now—arenʼt we still on opposing sides?”

Li Nian pointed to the two fiercely contested battlefields below.

”You should know better than me, this is Jiangcheng... Even though these four are strong even among ʼThird Tierʼ players, they wonʼt be able to decide a winner today.”

Lin Yu said, then looked at Li Nian. ”Especially since you and her caused such a huge commotion in the last [Dungeon], attracting way too many people to Jiangcheng—Demon Lord-level demons from the Prison Mountain Realm, the ʼNine Great Treasuresʼ from the Pure Abyss Realm...”

Li Nian cut him off. ”Oh, I get it... So youʼre buttering me up to ask me to take good care of Sister Zhu Ming?”

Lin Yu looked at Li Nian and didnʼt deny it.

”In short, in tomorrowʼs operation, I wonʼt help you, and I canʼt help you either.”

Li Nian said confidently, ”Donʼt worry, we of the ʼFree Allianceʼ arenʼt pushovers either.”

”Oh, thatʼs good to know... Because from what Iʼve heard, the demon she took away had its seal loosening a year ago, and it was the ʼGrandmasterʼ who personally stepped in to suppress it.”

Hearing this from Lin Yu, Li Nian burst out laughing.

”The ʼGrandmasterʼ? Now that sounds interesting!”

Lin Yu looked at her. Three seconds later, Li Nian clasped her hands together and raised them above her head.

”Bro, Nine Waters Bro, May Bro, my dear bro, Iʼm begging you. You absolutely have to make it clear to the ʼOrderʼ organization that when that demon was taken away, its cultivation had already been crippled!”

”Every word Iʼm saying is true... If you donʼt believe me, you can ask Sister Zhu Ming herself!”
