Death Game: Starting as a Trickster, Pretending to Be a God

Chapter 727: Talent and Habit

Large pools of blood flowed across the ground, severed limbs scattered everywhere, yet Xiaoyun remained completely calm.

”Iʼm starting to understand your ability now...”

”Since your revolverʼs reload effect relies on an [Exclusive Item], that means it canʼt be unlimited, right?”

Paper Kite watched Xiaoyunʼs slowly regrowing arm and spoke in a low voice.

”All I need to do is exceed your recovery limit or outpace your healing speed, and thatʼs that.”

Xiaoyun looked at Paper Kite and tilted her head.

”The prerequisite is that you can still hit me from now on.”

With that, she slowly stood up, and the places where both her arms had been severed were fully regenerated.

”At first, I suspected your [Exclusive Item] was some kind of locking effect to assist your aim, but now it doesnʼt seem to be the case.”

”I used visual interference on you earlier, yet you still hit me accurately while I was moving—as precise as hammering a nail... So now, I think I understand the source of your marksmanship.”
”You have deep ties to the Night Valley Realm... Iʼve heard thereʼs an extremely rare but powerful engraving there that can grant a ʼguaranteed hitʼ effect to ranged weapons.”

Xiaoyun said calmly, pulling out another severed hand.

”This battle prohibits all Night Valley ʼEngravings.ʼ”

As she spoke, Paper Kite frowned.

”Youʼve got a ʼLawyerʼ too? Is there no end to you?”

Xiaoyun shook her head. ”This is the last one—Iʼve really gone all out dealing with you.”

”Each corpse has a cooldown period after its ability is borrowed before it can be used again.”

She said this, then turned her gaze to Paper Kite.

”Alright... Now, itʼs my turn.”

Xiaoyun raised her umbrella, stepping forward.

In the next instant, her figure once again became as elusive as a ghost, and the dazzling, colorful radiance behind her exploded outward once more.

And just as she closed in on Paper Kite...

A flurry of gunfire rang out again.

Brilliant crimson blossoms burst open, and Xiaoyun fell to the ground, a look of confusion on her face.

”What?”

Her freshly repaired knees were shattered once more by six shots.

”Why did you hit me again?”

Xiaoyun looked at Paper Kite in bewilderment.

Paper Kite lifted his revolver, its muzzle still wisping with smoke, and began to explain.

”That ʼEngravingʼ you mentioned—Iʼve heard of it. It was invented by ʼRicardo,ʼ the Grandmaster of the Night Valleyʼs Cross-Scholar School of Demon Hunters. Legend has it that Master Ricardoʼs personal revolver was equipped with that engraving... But unfortunately... I donʼt possess any related [Item].”

”No matter how many times you borrow othersʼ abilities or construct rules in your favor, you can never take away the fact that every bullet I fire will land on you.”

Paper Kite raised his hand again. The freshly reloaded cylinder spun as the trigger was pulled, and six more bullets poured into Xiaoyun, severing both her arms.

”You canʼt take away my precision,” Paper Kite said, stroking the revolver in his hand. ”Because this is a talent I was born with and trained day and night—it requires nothing external. Itʼs an ability that belongs entirely to me!”

The revolver in his hand felt like an extension of his own body.

Even when his vision was disrupted, even when the target moved at lightning speed, Paper Kite knew—if he could hit it, he would hit it!

No thought needed, no doubt required—his innate shooting ability alone surpassed any [Item] or ʼClassʼ enhancement.

From childhood balloon stands, to his first real gun at a foreign shooting range during a tour group, to joining the ʼDeath Gameʼ...

Paper Kite had never missed a single shot!

And tonight, his aim had even surpassed his former self.

After all...

Now, aside from his gun, Paper Kite had nothing left.

Watching Xiaoyun, whose limbs were slowly regenerating and temporarily incapacitated, Paper Kite approached her.

”I donʼt know how many times Iʼll have to execute you... but I will keep executing you until you truly die!”

As Paper Kite spoke, Xiaoyun lifted her head and looked at him.

”So your shooting is that accurate all because of your own ability... Thatʼs impressive. It really caught me off guard.”

”But Paper Kite, in the end, you still made one mistake.”

Paper Kite frowned. ”What?”

”Havenʼt you realized? I called out your name and analyzed your ability, which means Iʼve actually looked into you,” Xiaoyun said lightly. ”Every strong person Iʼm interested in and might ʼuse for myself,ʼ I investigate their abilities, their items, and... their habits.”

Hearing this, Paper Kite suddenly sensed a trace of wrongness and instinctive alarm.

But he was already a step too late.

”I know, Paper Kite. Even though your marksmanship is incredible, you like to first immobilize your enemy before going for an execution-style shot.”

As Xiaoyun spoke, Paper Kite immediately reacted.

”Thereʼs a trap near you?”

In the next moment, Xiaoyunʼs limbs, which had been ”slowly recovering,” suddenly sped up their healing. In less than a fraction of a second, her severed limbs were reattached and fully restored—dozens of times faster than before!

Paper Kite immediately retreated to create distance, but Xiaoyun had no intention of letting him escape.

”Go!”

Xiaoyun said, elegantly lifting the hem of her skirt on both sides, as if she were bowing to Paper Kite.

Beneath her black dress, a pile of severed limbs clattered down, then lunged at Paper Kite like hunting dogs, latching onto his calves and ankles.

Soon, those limbs piled up around Paper Kiteʼs legs into two small mountains of flesh, trapping him as if he were sinking into a swamp, unable to pull free.

Realizing he couldnʼt escape, Paper Kite immediately pivoted his gun and began shooting at the limbs climbing up his body.

A barrage of gunfire rang out, and many of the limbs were blown back!

And just then...

Xiaoyun herself closed in on Paper Kite!

”Shhh!”

The tip of her umbrella thrust toward Paper Kiteʼs left eye, only to be deflected by a shot from his gun.

”Nice. I didnʼt expect youʼd still be this formidable up close.”

Xiaoyun said, then swung her umbrella again, thrusting and stabbing at Paper Kite.

The two were locked in a melee, and the battle escalated into a white-hot struggle!

But this wasnʼt the only fight reaching its peak.

On the other side of the garden, the battle between Good Night and Phantom had also entered its most ”brutal” phase!

Good Nightʼs body was covered in wounds—some large, some small—all carved by playing cards. Tendons, sinews, blood vessels, nerves... the cards sliced through his bodily tissues again and again.

Yet these injuries didnʼt seem to affect Good Night. If anything, the dark flames on him grew denser, and his movements became faster.

At some point, his blood had stopped dripping—because the moment it seeped out, it was instantly vaporized by those flames!
