Death Game: Starting as a Trickster, Pretending to Be a God

Chapter 712: [Encyclopedia] Privilege, Inventorying the Spoils

At first, Zhu Qiansi had indeed been planning to fight for that one percent chance at her own freedom, but just as Lin Yu was about to leave the dungeon...

She heard the chiming of bronze bells.

Then Zhu Qiansi sensed an absolutely terrifying presence — an opponent she absolutely could not defeat no matter how hard she tried.

If there had been even a one percent or a 0.1 percent chance, maybe she could have risked it, but if there was no hope at all... Zhu Qiansi naturally would not throw her life away for nothing.

Besides, she could feel that the one who was about to arrive... she didnʼt even have the qualification to struggle against them.

Under Lin Yu she might lose her freedom, but in that other personʼs hands... she might lose her life and even lose her freedom before dying.

Between two evils, choose the lesser.

Lin Yu was naturally quite satisfied with that outcome.

After confirming that Zhu Qiansiʼs condition had no abnormal signs, Lin Yu stored her away.

Now Zhu Qiansi had indeed completely lost her cultivation, appearing even more distant and mechanical than before — the reason was not hard to guess, after all, when Zhu Qiansi abandoned the Thousand-Eyed Thousand-Silk Demon Lord, she also implicitly gave up the causality silk she had previously devoured.
It was equivalent to losing data from the database.

But Lin Yu did not care; he only needed Zhu Qiansiʼs causality silk divine ability and the Fate Fragments that had fused with her.

Although with her lost cultivation the causality silkʼs effects were greatly reduced, as long as it could be used it was better than nothing.

”This ability being mine is just ridiculously overpowered...”

Lin Yu murmured, while he also checked the spoils from this dungeon.

First and most importantly, aside from Zhu Qiansi... he had unlocked the [Encyclopedia] privilege!

[Detected: Your influence on the dungeon world has met the requirements; the frequency and quality of your interactions with the dungeon environment have reached the threshold...]

[Detected: You have passed the ʼPromotion Trialʼ twice; player tier is ʼSecond Tierʼ...]

[A new player privilege module is now unlocked for you — ʼEncyclopediaʼ.]

Just like when the [Social] privilege had been unlocked before, Lin Yu felt a brand-new functional module connect to his consciousness.

With a thought, a panel in the form of a spreadsheet would pop up.

It recorded all the ”materials” Lin Yu had encountered so far in dungeon worlds.

They could be categorized by different worlds.

For example this time...

[Material · Mountain Demon Heart

Origin: Prison Mountain Realm, Fire Hell, Sand Hell

Known Function: Can be used to refine body-tempering medicines

Acquisition Method: Collected from corpses after killing Mountain Demons]

With this function, whenever Lin Yu encountered collectible materials in a dungeon, he could directly gather them and carry them out.

Paired with the [Social] privilege, he could even ask certain local natives to help craft them into items or trade them.

This was a huge upgrade for Lin Yu.

It was just a pity that Lin Yu didnʼt have too many powerful people in his [Social] panel.

Only in the ”Zhu Ming” panel was there a Punkdo Von Valetti and a Sanyang...

And then nothing else.

Lin Yu thought it over and concluded that, at root, he himself seemed a bit unlucky; the NPCs he got close to in dungeons tended to die off easily.

Take this [Escort the Darts] dungeon as an example... though he couldnʼt entirely blame himself, since most of the people he encountered inside were already dead.

Moreover, sometimes NPCs he had a good relationship with couldnʼt contact him because he used false identities, not the panel-linked identities like May May, Zhu Ming, Old Yao, or Director.

Logically, Jiang Rong from the Black Marsh world, the representatives of the Ten Great Tribes, Hannahʼs sixth uncle the Banquet God’s chosen one Ka, as well as Paris and that crowd from the Sleepless Family... should definitely be able to appear on the [Social] panel.

But unfortunately he didnʼt have panels for Rakshasa Moro, Fluoxetine, Furbollo, or Freud.

That left his [Social] privilege somewhat hollow.

Lin Yu learned his lesson.

”Although I had to use fake identities in previous dungeons... from now on I should try to act using identities that have social panels.”

A single [Social] panel was not very useful beyond learning some skills or freeloading a few items from locals, but once combined with the [Encyclopedia], the effect would be greater than the sum of its parts.

And once he gained the [Map] privilege in the future, he could even run into dungeon worlds during non-dungeon time, creating true functional stacking.

So...

”Expanding my social circles across the various realms is urgent,” Lin Yu thought.

However, that could not be completed overnight, so Lin Yu temporarily shelved thoughts about the [Encyclopedia] and [Social] and turned to the items he had obtained this time.

He still received two [Threading the Needle] rewards and two [Master of Control] rewards — his two most frequent reward evaluations.

First, the two [Threading the Needle] rewards — Lin Yu had never paid much attention to that evaluation name before, but this time he couldnʼt help but grumble a little.

”Using that evaluation as the dungeon completion title feels kind of like a double entendre.”

Lin Yu muttered, then began cataloging the item rewards he had obtained.

[Soul-Chasing Life-Severing Spear: A long spear forged from refined iron; the spearhead has specially made double hooks, working better when paired with unique spear techniques.]

[Signal Arrow Quiver: Generates arrows whose feathers explode with a loud bang after firing; each entry into a different world automatically generates two signal arrows.]

Looking at these two items, Lin Yu understood immediately.

The long spear belonged to Gate-Cracking Spear Chen Yuanye from Mingzhen Martial Arts School.

Although he had not learned Mingzhen school spear techniques, and despite not being a martial prodigy who could replicate Chen Yuanye’s moves after seeing them just once... the spear itself was powerful even without matching special techniques.

Currently Lin Yuʼs usual primary cold weapons besides the Long Blade Tusk Bone Dual Swords were the Fear Torch, while the Seeking Enemy Dagger was barely adequate...

Adding this Soul-Chasing Life-Severing Spear offered Lin Yu another viable option.

Besides, he might later have a chance to study at Mingzhen Martial Arts School — if all else failed, he could always con his way in.

The Signal Arrow Quiver was more ordinary, something many archers in the Golden Fortune Escort Agencyʼs escort teams carried — but at least the two arrows could be paired with Lin Yuʼs Blood-Tempered Flexible Iron Longbow, saving him from having to buy arrows every time he entered a dungeon.

At minimum he had two usable arrows — not many, but at least they existed!
