We Agreed On Experiencing Life, So Why Did You Immortals Become Real?

Chapter 612: I Don’t Necessarily Need to Be With Xiao Mo

Wangxin changed into monastic robes, following the maids into the Great Zhou imperial palace.

By now, Wangxin had already exchanged her ordinary peasant hemp garments but that waist-length hair of hers, paired now with monastic robes, took on an altogether different, austere beauty.

Especially since Wangxin already carried a certain transcendent, holy bearing about her.

This left the maids guiding her unable to resist stealing a few extra glances.

They even wondered whether His Majesty, upon meeting this Master Wangxin, might consider bringing her into the palace himself.

Walking through the palace, Wangxin raised her head, looking left and right.

She noticed that the fortune of mountains and rivers wound throughout the palace grew ever richer, the entire dynasty showing signs of having recently recovered from a grave illness, even flourishing anew.

This alone showed that the current Great Zhou emperor was, indeed, a truly wise and capable ruler.

”Mrrgh...”

Hundunʼs small paw poked out from Wangxinʼs collar, curiously looking left and right as well, but Wangxin gently pressed it back down.

Before long, Wangxin was brought to Lingxin Palace.

Empress Dowager Yan had already been waiting in the front courtyard for some time.

”This humble monk, Wangxin, pays respects to the Empress Dowager.”

Seeing the elegantly dressed beautiful woman surrounded by maids, Wangxin knew at once that this was the current Zhou dynastyʼs Empress Dowager, indeed somewhat younger than she had imagined.

”Master Wangxin, please, thereʼs no need for such formality.”

Empress Dowager Yan hurried forward, helping Wangxin to her feet, her expression full of delight and astonishment.

”I have long heard of Master Wangxinʼs great renown, and seeing you today, you truly are extraordinary. That Master Wangxin would come to my palace, to instruct me in the Buddhist teachings, is truly my honor. I shall trouble Master Wangxin for this time.”

”The Empress Dowager is too gracious. To be able to teach the Empress Dowager the Buddhist teachings is, in itself, Wangxinʼs own honor.” Wangxin pressed her hands together in a bow, her words respectful.

The more Empress Dowager Yan looked at Wangxin, the more fond of her she grew, even thinking to herself that it would be wonderful if such a woman could be her own daughter-in-law.

Of course, the Empress Dowager knew this was impossible.

Never mind that this womanʼs cultivation level far surpassed anything imaginable, an immortal among immortals, how could she possibly be willing to become a mere consort of such a small kingdom as Zhou?

Moreover, this woman was a monastic, her very status having already severed all worldly ties.

After exchanging a few more pleasantries with Wangxin, Empress Dowager Yan took hold of her hand, leading her into the Buddhist hall.

Wangxin earnestly explained the Buddhist teachings to Empress Dowager Yan, and the Empress Dowager, too, seemed to have genuinely settled her heart, no longer wishing to concern herself with other court affairs, wanting only to live out the rest of her days well, listening with great attentiveness.

Several maids attended nearby, not daring to speak, listening earnestly as well, growing increasingly absorbed but Little Hundun, like a restless three-year-old unable to bear the stillness, transformed into a streak of light, slipping out from Wangxinʼs collar into the room.

Little Hundun landed upon the table, sipping tea here, nibbling pastries there, treating Lingxin Palace as though it were her own home, looking thoroughly at ease.

The maids, watching this ugly-cute little ball of flesh with wings, could not help their eyes lighting up.

They did not know what exactly this creature was, but found it rather adorable and because this ”little creature” belonged to Master Wangxin as a pet, the maids instinctively assumed this little ball of flesh posed no danger at all.

One bolder maid had already quietly extended a finger, gently poking its little belly.

Little Hundun simply flopped onto the table, all four paws in the air, playing utterly adorable.

”Migu, you mustnʼt be so rude...”

Wangxin scolded Little Hundun softly, though because of Wangxinʼs own gentle nature, even the scolding carried a certain delicate tenderness.

”No matter, no matter.” Empress Dowager Yan smiled. ”Since itʼs Master Wangxinʼs pet, itʼs naturally an honored guest of mine as well.”

With these words, the Empress Dowager said to the maid beside her, “This little guest seems to love pastries. Xiao Guo, go bring more.”

”Yes.” Xiao Guo bowed, going to fetch more pastries but Little Hundun immediately perched on her shoulder, wanting to go along with her.

Wangxin felt this was not quite proper, but Empress Dowager Yan assured her several times that it was fine.

In the afternoon, after two hours of listening to the Buddhist teachings, Empress Dowager Yan, too, began to feel somewhat drowsy.

She had the maids escort Wangxin to the adjacent Hongxiu Palace.

From this day forward, Hongxiu Palace would serve as Wangxinʼs residence but Wangxin did not rest within Hongxiu Palace, instead wandering through the imperial palace grounds with Little Hundun.

Wangxin wondered whether she might catch sight of the Zhou Kingdomʼs ruler.

If that proved impossible, at least seeing Sister Sili would do.

Truthfully, Wangxin had grown rather worried about Sister Sili.

After all, Sister Sili had already been within the palace for so many days now, and she had heard no word of her at all, uncertain how she was faring and just as Wangxin wandered leisurely through the palace grounds.

Suddenly, Hundun twitched her nonexistent little nose, then flew off toward a certain direction.

”Migu, this is someone elseʼs palace, you mustnʼt run off like that...” Wangxin hurried after her, breaking into a light jog.

Wangxin followed Little Hundun through garden after garden, courtyard gate after courtyard gate.

When they arrived at a garden called ”Spring Harmony Garden,” Little Hundun stopped flying forward, instead hovering in midair, beating her wings, looking toward a certain direction, pointing insistently with her wing.

Wangxin looked in that direction, and saw a man dressed in a yellow robe walking leisurely across a bridge some distance away, accompanied by a woman.

The instant she saw the manʼs face, Wangxinʼs heart gave a sudden, violent lurch, her lovely eyes trembling ceaselessly.

”Xiao Mo...”

Wangxin gently pressed a hand to her chest, gazing at the manʼs figure, countless memories surging up within her heart.

She even felt, in this moment, that everything felt too unreal and yet... he stood there, not far from her at all...

It was only then that Wangxin understood, Little Hundun had sensed a soul identical to Xiao Moʼs, and that was why she had flown over and just as Wangxin took a step forward, wanting to go find Xiao Mo, she saw him laughing and chatting with the extraordinarily beautiful woman beside him, both their eyes full of tenderness.

Every glance that woman gave him was brimming with love.

”Migu!”

Little Hundun, finally seeing her master, wanted to fly forward joyfully.

Though this master of hers wasnʼt quite as wonderful as her mistress, after so long apart, she still missed him dearly but before Little Hundun had flown very far, she turned back, and saw that her mistress still stood rooted in place, seemingly lost in thought.

Little Hundun flew back, her small paw tugging at her mistressʼs sleeve, “Migu, Migu!”

”I... I know where he is now... but Xiao Mo seems to be doing so well now. If I go find him, would I only be intruding on his life...” Wangxin lowered her head, wringing her fingers together.

”Migu! Migu!” Little Hundun tugged at her mistressʼs sleeve even more insistently, clearly upset.

”No... thereʼs no need...”

Wangxin shook her head hurriedly, watching the other party grow ever more distant.

”I donʼt necessarily need to be with Xiao Mo...”

”I... being able to watch him from afar... thatʼs already enough...”
