The Quest for Immortality

Mo Hua glanced at him softly, ”Are you teaching me how to do things?”

The Sect Leader of Canglang Sect was momentarily taken aback.

If it were an ordinary cultivator daring to be so presumptuous in front of him, he definitely wouldn’t let it slide. Even if he didn’t deliver a fatal blow, at the very least, he would cripple their meridians and break their limbs.

Yet, under Mo Hua’s indifferent gaze, the Sect Leader of Canglang Sect felt a chill down his spine, a kind of instinctual alertness.

The Sect Leader of Canglang Sect tried to remain calm, ”Brother Mo... as a disciple of a Great Sect with extraordinary talent, your actions naturally need no other people’s comments.”

”However, facts are facts.”

”You may be well-intentioned and do not want to forget your roots, which is commendable... but your origins, your family background, not only cannot lift you up, but will also become your burden, hindering your cultivation and preventing you from seeking a higher Great Dao.”

”To achieve great things, one must be ruthless, with the decisiveness to cut off the past.”

”Being indecisive and kind-hearted makes it hard to achieve great success...”

Mo Hua looked calm, neither agreeing nor disagreeing.

The Sect Leader of Canglang Sect frowned but wisely said no more, just continued:

”I have said all I have to say, the choice is up to Brother Mo.”

He thought for a moment and added, ”I will stay in Tongxian City for three days to experience the local customs, and then I will return to the sect.”

”If within these three days Brother Mo changes his mind, feel free to come find me.”

Mo Hua nodded, ”I’ll think about it.”

The Sect Leader of Canglang Sect stood up and cupped his hands, ”I will be at Immortal Inn in Tongxian City, awaiting Brother Mo’s good news.”

After saying that, he clapped his hands.

Several disciples of the Canglang Sect entered the room, carrying several storage chests and some storage bags.

The Sect Leader of Canglang Sect said, ”A small token of appreciation, but please accept it with a smile, Brother Mo Hua.”

Mo Hua did not refuse, cupped his hands and said, ”Thank you.”

”Farewell.”

The Sect Leader of Canglang Sect said, then left with his entourage from the Canglang Sect.

In the elegant room, only Mo Hua remained deep in thought.

...

On the grand street of Tongxian City, people surged like tidewaters.

The Sect Leader of Canglang Sect walked down the street, surprised by the surrounding hustle and bustle, with a gaze as sharp as a wolf’s.

”It’s a nice place...”

Passing through the street, they arrived at the largest inn in Tongxian City, where they booked the most spacious and luxurious room, and then settled in.

The Sect Leader of Canglang Sect sat alone in the room drinking tea.

After a moment, there was a knock on the door.

”Enter.”

A cultivator clad in a merchant’s robe with an ordinary appearance but possessing a late-stage Foundation Establishment walked into the room.

He closed the door behind him and, upon stepping inside, removed the robe, revealing beneath it the sect garment embroidered with a Wolf Pattern.

This was the Taoist robe of an Elder of the Canglang Sect.

”How was it?” the Sect Leader of Canglang Sect asked in a buzzing voice.

”I’ve inquired thoroughly.”

The Elder of the Canglang Sect presented a jade slip.

The Sect Leader of Canglang Sect took the jade slip, pressed it against his forehead, skimmed through it briefly, and his expression remained indifferent.

The Elder of the Canglang Sect asked in a low voice, ”Sect Leader, you have met this person. What do you think?”

The Sect Leader of Canglang Sect pondered, ”A bit peculiar, hard to determine...”

”Do you think,” the Elder of the Canglang Sect asked softly, ”he really is a disciple of Qianxue’s Fifth Grade Major Sect?”

The Sect Leader of Canglang Sect remained silent for a moment, then shook his head, ”Hard to say... a loose cultivator from a Second-Grade State entering the sect of a Fifth-Grade State is already somewhat fantastical.”

”Even if he was indeed lucky enough to have such an opportunity...”

The Sect Leader of Canglang Sect pondered, ”As a disciple of a Great Sect, it makes no sense for him to return to Li State, this second-grade small state boundary, instead of staying in Qianxue’s Fifth Grade State realm.”

The Elder of Canglang Sect frowned:

”Are you suggesting... this Mo Hua couldn’t make it in the Fifth-Grade State Realm? Perhaps he even committed some offense, was expelled from the sect, and returned to his hometown in Li State in disgrace?”

The Sect Leader of Canglang Sect sipped his tea, neither confirming nor denying.

By logic, it is not impossible.

The pinnacle of a Five-Grade State is not easy to reside in. How could a loose cultivator, with no kin or connections, possibly thrive there?

Moreover, in a Five-Grade Major Sect, how deep its foundation is, and how many prodigies there are.

How could a disciple with mediocre spiritual roots and a frail physique possibly be favored? How could they possibly learn anything significant?

If he were truly doing somewhat well and learning well, how could he possibly leave the Fifth-Grade State and return to this desolate little place?

The thriving Great State Realm of the Fifth-Grade, compared to a remote and barren Little Immortal City of Second-Grade, is truly worlds apart.

Anyone with even a bit of sense knows to stay in a Fifth-Grade State Realm, seeking better opportunities and higher development.

And not to return to a backwater place to play house with a bunch of loose cultivators.

”But...” the Elder of Canglang Sect whispered, ”I heard it rumored that this Young Master Mo was even taught formation by the Heaven Void Ancestor, he... surely wouldn’t dare to falsely claim the Ancestor’s name?”

The Sect Leader of Canglang Sect sneered, ”Everything else is negotiable, but that is absolutely impossible.”

”What kind of figure is Heaven Void?”

”To even catch a glimpse of Heaven Void for an ordinary cultivator is a blessing in three lifetimes, let alone being personally taught by Heaven Void.”

The Elder of Canglang Sect’s eyes grew solemn, ”Then you mean this Mo kid is lying?”

The Sect Leader of Canglang Sect shook his head, ”Not necessarily.”

The Elder of Canglang Sect was puzzled.

The Sect Leader of Canglang Sect queried, ”What is meant by being personally taught formation by the Ancestor?”

”If Heaven Void Ancestor delivers a big lecture on formation to all disciples of the sect, does it not count as being personally taught formation?”

”Even if he is just one among many, the most inconspicuous disciple, does it not still count as receiving direct transmission from the Ancestor?”

”Likewise, if he’s in a Daoist Field, listening to Heaven Void Ancestor’s teachings along with thousands of disciples, isn’t that also considered being personally instructed by the Ancestor?”
