The People's God: Sacrificing Trillions to Ascend

Han Wu was trapped in total darkness. It was airless and suffocating. Every instinct told him he was running out of time. He struck against the walls of the black coffin with all his strength, but they held like solid steel, impossible to break from within.

Then, he heard a seductive voice counting down beside his ear.

“Three, two—”

The Black Coffin shattered with a crack. The War Angel had brought her scepter down on it and split it apart.

The War Angel wasn’t at Microcosm rank, and her raw strength fell well short of the Lust Dark Demon Queen’s, but her Sin Bane skill gave her a massive natural advantage against dark and sin-type abilities, which largely closed the gap between them.

“You, holy scoundrel, how dare you break my skill?!” the Lust Dark Demon Queen shrieked.

Han Wu had barged into her territory, caused endless trouble, and blown up a large number of her followers. For his War Angel to have shattered her technique on top of everything else truly incited her desire to make him pay.

The Lust Dark Demon Queen immediately issued an order for every Digital Sprite in the ruined city to attack Han Wu. She would see him dead before the day was out.

Gu Bei’s group was thrilled. The four of them had been struggling to corner Han Wu with fifteen ultimates. Things would be much easier now that the Lust Dark Demon Queen was joining the fight.

Immediately, a massive number of humanoid Digital Sprites rushed toward Han Wu. The latter’s reaction surprised them all. Rather than being alarmed, he was actually delighted.

In Han Wu’s eyes, these Digital Sprites weren’t enemies coming to surround him, but walking deliveries of energy points and evolution points headed straight for his door. The Lust Dark Demon Queen was truly generous!

Han Wu was always magnanimous to those who were generous to him. He would make sure she was reborn somewhere decent.

He sent his Sloth Machinedrasprite Fortress and Greed Neo Vampsprite to handle the wave of incoming humanoid Digital Sprites. The Sloth Machinedrasprite Fortress immediately converted itself into a turret, firing its Multi Infinity Cannons in a continuous barrage without cooldown, blanketing everything within ten kilometers in heavy fire.

The Greed Neo Vampsprite activated Demon Mouth. A flood of familiars answered the call and attacked the surrounding humanoid Digital Sprites. Although individually weak, their numbers were overwhelming. Each one also drained blood from its target to feed power back to the Greed Neo Vampsprite. It was a terrifying skill.

Han Wu gained enormous amounts of energy points and evolution points from the chaos. The Lust Dark Demon Queen watched her followers being slaughtered. Each death struck her heart painfully, and she eventually ordered all humanoid life forms to retreat immediately. Unfortunately for her, it was already too late. The Greed Neo Vampsprite wasn’t going to let a single target escape.

In a rage, the Lust Dark Demon Queen fired off Black Coffin again, trying to finish Han Wu once and for all, but the War Angel simply shattered it like before. Wanting to stop the Lust Dark Demon Queen from further threatening Han Wu’s life, the War Angel decisively activated her most powerful skill, Holy Covenant.

It would end an enemy’s life at the cost of her own. At her strength, the War Angel wouldn’t normally be able to kill a Microcosm-rank life form outright, but the amplification from Sin Bane was enough to bridge that gap.

The skill landed, and the Lust Dark Demon Queen was killed with the War Angel’s sacrifice.

Gu Bei and his group stood frozen.

The powerful Lust Dark Demon Queen had died just like that? She was a Digital Sprite strong enough that their whole group combined couldn’t get through her defenses!

Gu Bei shook himself out of his daze. “Don’t let the display throw you off! He’s burned through most of his strength. Seize this opportunity to take him down!”

The other three contestants realized that Gu Bei was right about there being an opportunity. The Sloth Machinedrasprite Fortress and the Greed Neo Vampsprite were tied up with the surrounding humanoid Digital Sprites, and the War Angel had sacrificed herself. This left only five Digital Sprites at Han Wu’s side. They were Stinger, Thunder Halberd, Yinglong, the Iron Abyss Bug, and the Gluttony Heavenly Dog.

It was the weakest his defenses had ever been. With fifteen against five, the odds had shifted dramatically in their favor.

“Go! Kill his Digital Sprites, kill them all!” Gu Bei led the charge.

All four of his ultimates surged forward. The other three contestants followed his lead and launched their own attacks. Losing with numbers and strength on their side would be a true embarrassment.

Facing a combined assault from the fifteen ultimate Digital Sprites, Han Wu was genuinely terrified, enough so that his hands shook when he went to summon a War Saint Locustman, and he accidentally added an extra zero to the count.

Accidentally spending 10 million energy points, he summoned ten War Saint Locustmen in one go. War Saint Locustmen were born as Earthsunder life forms and were naturally skilled with weapons. The moment they appeared, they each grabbed a weapon and threw themselves into a brawl against the fifteen opposing ultimate-tier Digital Sprites.

Han Wu noticed that one of the newly summoned War Saint Locustmen favored a hammer, so he tossed Thor’s Hammer to that one.

Armed with a powerful weapon, the War Saint Locustman’s fighting strength spiked immediately. It hammered the Iron Gorillasprite until its Digital Alloy coating cracked apart, making it the first ultimate to die in the battle.

Gu Bei felt it like a punch to the chest. The Iron Gorillasprite had been one of his most carefully cultivated creations, yet Han Wu had wiped it out so effortlessly.

The losses persisted as the fight wore on.

When the contestants watching from outside received news of the Lust Dark Demon Queen’s death, they came flooding into the ruined city. A massive wave of summoned Digital Sprites charged toward the battle.

Their numbers were comparable to the humanoid Digital Sprites that had been stationed there, and their average strength was high, with most of them reaching at least a King life form. There were more than forty ultimates among them.

Even with twelve War Saint Locustmen and a large number of other ultimates, Han Wu still faced overwhelming numbers and strength. He was left with only one option.

“Retreat!” Han Wu ordered, opening the Sloth Machinedrasprite Fortress’s Microcosm to store the slower Digital Sprites inside. He then spent 2 million energy points to summon twenty Nuclear Locusts as a rear guard.

Han Wu knew a single Nuclear Locust wasn’t powerful enough to stop the pursuers, so he stuffed all of the special material he had collected from the Kingdom of Sin—the Dark Gears—into each of the bugs, triggering a massive boost to their strength and explosive might.

A chain of thunderous blasts rang out as Han Wu fled with his War Saint Locustman squad.

The explosions stopped his pursuers in their tracks, causing them to fall behind again. Gu Bei could do nothing but watch as Han Wu’s silhouette shrank into the sky.

Slamming his fist into the ground, he cursed, “Damn it! We have to keep chasing. We can’t go back to our families empty-handed!”
