The People's God: Sacrificing Trillions to Ascend

The Grand War Games’ finals were about to begin. The War God King personally descended upon the arena to inspect the quality of this year’s Grand War Games. He reviewed the profiles of the two finalists.

The first was Liu Jincheng. He was a Major God, a thirty-year veteran of the War Faction, and a participant in more than 10,000 wars. His most impressive battle had been holding back an enemy civilization’s 1.9 billion-strong army with only 300 million of his own. His title was Iron Wall.

The second was Han Wu. He was a Major God, the Holy Son of the Death Faction, the Holy Son of the Wisdom Faction, and a third-year student at Imperial College. His notable achievement came during the recent divine war between the Slaughter Faction and the Wisdom Faction, where he had forced the Slaughter God King into a corner and ultimately caused the Butcher’s death through his own strength.

When Zhong Heng read Liu Jincheng’s profile, he nodded in satisfaction. Meanwhile, when he reached Han Wu’s, his expression darkened. He had reviewed Han Wu’s file a few days ago and had already planned to suppress him as much as possible to answer to the late Butcher and the War Families. Yet Han Wu had fought his way into the finals.

Was Han Wu’s next step to claim victory outright and secure a seat among the Three Armies? If that happened, it would become far more difficult for Zhong Heng to act against him. His only opportunity to deal with Han Wu was now, preferably during the finals.

If Liu Jincheng could crush Han Wu decisively, that would be the best outcome. It would showcase the War Faction’s strength and eliminate Han Wu in a completely legitimate manner; two birds with one stone.

The Grand War Games, however, operated under its own rules. Even Zhong Heng couldn’t interfere with the finals directly. He could only rely on other methods to achieve his goal.

“Liu Jincheng has been quite active lately. Considering his contributions to the War Faction, take the token containing the Power of the Mountain from my treasury and give it to him as a reward,” Zhong Heng instructed the adjutant beside him.

The adjutant’s eyes flickered with understanding as he immediately grasped Zhong Heng’s intent. “Chief, your generosity is something Liu Jincheng could never repay in this lifetime.”

“Stop wasting time and go.”

“Yes, sir.” The adjutant rushed off to carry out the order.

Just then, two of the Three Armies, Pious and Evilspawn, arrived.

Pious greeted Zhong Heng with a bow and asked, “Father, the finals are about to begin. Which contestant do you favor?”

Zhong Heng glanced at his foster son, and his mood improved slightly. Rather than answering directly, he replied with a question of his own, “Who do you think is more likely to claim the seat among the Three Armies?”

Evilspawn spoke without the slightest restraint. “Obviously, Han Wu, the one who cornered the Butcher. If he could force even the Butcher into a corner, then Iron Wall, who’s weaker than the Butcher, stands no chance.”

Zhong Heng shot Evilspawn a look. This hulking idiot only grew muscles and not brains. Can he not think for even half a moment before opening his mouth? At this rate, his brain will atrophy from disuse.

Pious read the atmosphere and answered accordingly, “I think Liu Jincheng has the better odds. After all, he’s known as Iron Wall. Even I would need to put in serious effort to defeat him.”

Hearing those words, Zhong Heng finally allowed himself a small smile. That was the kind of answer he wanted to hear. His foster son always knew exactly what to say. Compared to Pious, Evilspawn had nothing but raw strength and resembled more than an oversized chimpanzee.

At that moment, the adjutant returned. The token containing the Power of the Mountain had been delivered to Liu Jincheng.

Liu Jincheng was no fool. With the finals approaching, Zhong Heng had chosen this exact moment to send him a reward, especially one perfectly suited to his talent. The message behind the gesture was obvious.

Liu Jincheng knelt and bowed toward the distant figure. “Chief, rest assured. I will not disappoint your expectations.”

With both sides ready, the finals commenced. Han Wu and Liu Jincheng descended into the arena at the same time.

Han Wu immediately checked the rules displayed across the sky.

This time, the requirements were surprisingly simple. Two words summed it up: [No restrictions!]

That was right. As the final match of the Grand War Games, the only rule was that there were no rules. Contestants were encouraged to fight with everything they had, free from all limitations.

Han Wu smiled. This rule suited him perfectly!

As Han Wu’s opponent, Liu Jincheng devoted his full attention to observing Han Wu. The latter’s name had spread through the War Faction like wildfire after the Butcher’s death, and Liu Jincheng already knew of his accomplishments. Yet when he actually saw Han Wu in person, he was taken aback. After all, he looked like an ordinary, cheerful young man.

How did he force the Slaughter God King to his death with those skinny arms and legs? That has to be a joke.

In that instant, Liu Jincheng concluded that Han Wu couldn’t possibly have killed the Butcher. More likely, the Wisdom God King had used some powerful Divine Jurisdiction ability to corner the Butcher but didn’t want to reveal it, crediting the kill to Han Wu instead. It had to be Xu Hai’s way of elevating Han Wu’s reputation.

After reaching that conclusion, Liu Jincheng’s attitude toward Han Wu shifted completely. His caution vanished, and he looked at Han Wu the same way one would a child.

“Han Wu, I admit it wasn’t easy for you to reach the finals, but the Grand War Games are a serious affair. One moment of carelessness could cost your life,” Liu Jincheng warned.

Han Wu was too absorbed in the joy of the no-restrictions rule to hear him. Liu Jincheng, however, mistook his silence for fear, which boosted his confidence enormously.

“Since you insist on pushing forward, I won’t try to dissuade you. Let our abilities speak for themselves,” Liu Jincheng said.

“Then let’s begin,” Han Wu replied.

With that, the match officially started.

Han Wu opened his Microcosms without hesitation. His Great Dragons, who had long been eager for battle, emerged at once. Under Alpheus’s lead, they unleashed their combined technique: the Chaos Dragon Breath.

Liu Jincheng’s units emerged from his divine realm as well. His core race consisted of Rock Golems, Heroic life forms by birth.

At Liu Jincheng’s command, numerous Rock Golems arranged themselves into a wall formation in front of him before the Chaos Dragon Breath could arrive. The attack was immensely destructive and easily blasted through more than a dozen layers of Rock Golems.

Even so, Liu Jincheng had well over 100 layers of Rock Golems shielding him. The Chaos Dragon Breath managed to breach only a few dozen layers of his defense. To Liu Jincheng, that amounted to nothing. With a wave of his hand, he could replenish them immediately.

Seeing that even the Chaos Dragon Breath could not break through the Rock Golems’ defenses, Han Wu decided to take matters into his own hands. Peerless appeared in his grip. Today would be the day the blade became a legend throughout the War Faction.
