Starting Cultivation in Wasteland

Chapter 866: Chapter 736: Enemy Attack

Qu Jianlei did not tell Flower Scorpion whether or not there was a Supreme in the bunker.

He merely stated coolly, ”Let’s rest for a while, and when it rains, we’ll scout during the daytime.”

The rain started around eleven in the morning, neither too heavy nor light, with a considerable wind.

The two rented a car in the small city and drove about five kilometers from the manor.

Then they got out of the car and wandered around in the rain.

It looked odd no matter how you saw it; who goes sightseeing in such weather?

However, Qu Jianlei had his ways. He concealed part of his aura, suppressing it to C-level, and showed a Water Attribute.

Then he clad himself in Water Armor, and did the same for Flower Scorpion.

With this change, their presence in the wild seemed plausible—playing outdoors in the rain isn’t typical, but it’s an exception for the Water Attribute.

Additionally, since they were a man and a woman, with Flower Scorpion carrying a backpack, they perfectly looked like a couple on an outing.

They passed through the eastern side of the manor, never getting closer than six kilometers and not skirting the southeast.

Twice along the way, they were stopped and not only had their identities checked but also Flower Scorpion’s backpack was inspected.

The backpack contained foodstuffs, some outdoor living tools, plus a tent, and nothing more.

Even so, the inspecting City Guard sternly warned them that this was a military zone, and it was best to keep their distance.

Flower Scorpion even argued back, appearing quite indignant.

However, when they returned, they did keep their distance from the manor intentionally.

In such weather, openly venturing out allowed them to sense quite a bit.

Even Flower Scorpion noticed, ”There are quite a few people in that bunker, at least three B-level, and lots of gun ports.”

Qu Jianlei then began to ponder, ”I find it strange. How did they dig out this bunker?”

With the outside pressure I exert, would the Norton Family dare openly excavate a bunker? Does that make sense?

Flower Scorpion sighed and rolled her eyes, knowing her leader was lost in his thoughts again.

She had seen him like this more than a few times, so she paid it no mind.

”This bunker definitely has issues; I didn’t dare sense too much... Is the Norton Family’s Supreme really inside?”

”Yes,” Qu Jianlei nodded. After the reconnaissance during the day, he finally confirmed this, ”and there’s also an A-level.”

Flower Scorpion pondered for a moment and murmured, ”Then their strength isn’t that formidable; do they mainly rely on firepower?”

Qu Jianlei mused in response, ”Maybe it’s like Xiang Xue said, they just want to leave some people there to find clues.”

Flower Scorpion chuckled at his words, feeling both pleased and slightly wistful.

”Our genetic samples aren’t even in the Imperial database.”

Qu Jianlei glanced at her and nodded, ”That’s good.”

”But we should still try to avoid injury, so they never get our genetic samples.”

Having confirmed that Qianfeng was indeed hiding in the bunker, the two quietly returned.

The next night, they returned to the guesthouse and discussed with the other three on how to deploy for combat.

Shortly into the discussion, Xiang Xue yawned and came in, ”Ugh, why didn’t you call me? This sounds fun, why not include me?”

Qu Jianlei shook his head speechlessly, while Bentley spoke seriously, ”It might anger the Celestial Handle Star’s Central Government, are you sure you want to be involved?”

He had a good impression of the young lady, but since they were doing something dangerous, why drag someone from a good family into it?

”I’m already in the know,” Xiang Xue casually replied, ”if something happens, I can’t deny it.”

The six of them discussed until midnight, finalizing the battle plan.

The next noon, they went out to play again, but returned earlier than before.

After resting for a night, the following morning, Xiang Xue drove an off-road vehicle, taking the five of them away in a grand departure.

As they were nearing the location, Xiang Xue stopped the car, and six of them split into two groups, renting vehicles separately to head to the destination.

The next evening when they regrouped, the six of them arrived in a forest seven or eight kilometers away from the manor.

This was a very sensitive area, but Xiao Qin continuously cloaked them in Wood Armor, concealing their aura.

She wouldn’t be much use in the upcoming battle, so she focused on helping with the initial disguise.

After all, her purpose in applying the Wood Armor was not for defense; a thin layer to mask their aura didn’t require much Inner Breath.

Waiting was a bit dull, and Claire occasionally looked at the sky, ”Why isn’t it raining yet?”

It turns out they came at a relaxed pace, wanting to launch their attack under the cover of rain.

This request mainly came from Xiang Xue, the second-highest in Cultivation Level within the team, who believed rain would augment her abilities.

But fortunately, she didn’t consider her Combat Power to be second—an old B-level pinnacle might be more aggressive than her.

Xiang Xue stated she was considering everyone’s safety, ”At least I can better cover you all, right?”

Because of this, everyone agreed with her proposal.

So young and already A-level, being able to find one’s position on the battlefield truly is not easy.

It wasn’t until after one in the morning that the sky began to drizzle.

The rain wasn’t very heavy, much less than the previous storm two days ago.

Everyone waited for more than an hour, but the rain remained sparse, like an old man with severe prostate issues.

”Should we keep waiting?” Claire couldn’t hold back any longer, ”If we wait longer, it will be dawn.”

Xiang Xue glanced at Qu Jianlei lightly, ”Need me to increase the rain?”

”No need,” Qu Jianlei shook his head, clearly stating, ”The fluctuation of the water element might alert the opponent.”

”But it’s raining now,” Xiang Xue was a bit puzzled, ”And it’s at night.”

”It’s precisely at night that we need to be more careful,” Qu Jianlei replied in a deep voice, ”During the day, people tend to lower their guard more easily.”

”Moreover, increasing the rain will lower air humidity, which might cause the rain to stop prematurely... best to save it for a critical moment.”

After another half hour, the rain got slightly heavier, and five figures quietly moved forward, leaving Xiao Qin in the rear for backup.

Xiao Qin didn’t feel wronged at all; her Inner Breath had already been partially spent, and this backup was not idle work.

In strict terms, it was central coordination, and she also had to observe the overall situation, detonating traps at appropriate times to distract the opponent.

However, seeing her companions stealthily moving forward, even little Claire being no exception, she couldn’t help but feel a tinge of envy in her heart, ”How did they develop such high-level combat skills?”

In fact, the attacking combat unit was not just five people; an inhuman entity was also involved.

Qu Jianlei issued an instruction in his mind, ”Little Lake, begin to block their communication channels.”

The bunker and mansion communicated through many wireless connections and a hidden wired one.

The bunker had to remain silent, so routine communication was done via the wired connection to avoid exposing their target.

When Big Head Butterfly indicated everything was ready, Qu Jianlei opened his palm and waved it in a particular direction.

A cold light pill, the size of a thumb, was attached to his palm.

Bentley, located five hundred meters away, although aged, had extraordinary B-level eyesight and saw the signal even in the rain.

He formed the finger technique with his hands, ”Endless Celestial Thunder!”

Endless Celestial Thunder is somewhat similar to the Thunder Strike Skill, but the former focuses on a range technique, while the latter focuses on an electric single-target technique.

In terms of power, Endless Celestial Thunder is much weaker but excels in coverage; it aims not for damage but for electromagnetic interference.

Several flashes crossed the sky, followed by the continuous rumble of thunder rolling.

At that moment in the bunker, four people, one B-level, one C-level, and two Modified Warriors, were on night watch.

The watchers in the bunker were actually from a Pioneer Team, in which the Norton Family had once invested.

This time, the Norton Family hired them at a high price, banking on their reckless pursuit of money.

Since the money was already on the table, the Pioneer Team would naturally remain highly vigilant.

No one wants the regret of ”The money’s still there, but the person isn’t.”

This sudden series of thunderclaps startled the four watchers, ”How did it turn into a thunderstorm?”

It was supposed to be a constant drizzle, so why did it become a thunderstorm?

At the same time, the City Guard noticed the flashes, ”Hey, why is it thundering?”

Because it was raining, no one thought this was a man-made technique.

There’s no shortage of electromagnetic group attack techniques, but unless on a special battlefield, techniques for electromagnetic interference are rare.

It’s not that no one knows how, but it’s unnecessary—who doesn’t have an Electromagnetic Interference Bomb?

As long as one is well-prepared, they can have an unlimited number of Electromagnetic Interference Bombs, but the Awakened’s Inner Breath is limited.

When the thunder descended, the Pioneer Team members in the bunker realized something was wrong, ”Damn it, the wireless communication system is down!”

”It’s good that it’s just down; my terminal burned while watching a nurse about to give an injection... whose terminal isn’t in use temporarily?”

”Forget the injection; this might be electromagnetic interference. Quickly connect to the wired system to inquire about the situation!”

”The wired connection has a non-physical blockage, phenomenon showing as enormous data packets, but that’s impossible...”

”Preliminary analysis shows it’s a false digital image caused by a radiation particle flow vector damage, triggering protective misjudgment of the control system.”

Just then, a voice screamed desperately, ”Enemy attack! A bunch of bastards, it’s an enemy attack!”

The bunker was already in chaos, but the City Guard was still watching the spectacle, ”Rain all day and then thunder, how rare.”

”It’s in the southeast corner, right, what’s the situation with the southeast corner?”

There were ambushers in the southeast corner, a fact not many in the City Guard knew.

The Norton Family didn’t know who their opponent was, but at least two Supremes were involved, definitely not a small force.

Such a force wanting to plant spies among the City Guard could do so effortlessly.

On the surface, the government sent the City Guard to keep watch, but in reality, the Norton Family couldn’t fully trust them.
