Starting Cultivation in Wasteland

Xiang Xue had already made up her mind. No matter what, as long as she didn’t admit it now, there was nothing they could do.

However, Gavin wasn’t about to give up just like that.

He sighed softly, ”Teacher Xiang Xue, with an A-level Redeemer missing, there must be an explanation.”

Xiang Xue hadn’t had a chance to respond when Cheng Qingshan snorted dismissively.

”Gavin, let it go already. Are there not enough Redeemers disappearing without a cause? Stop making a big deal out of it.”

Gavin shot him a cold glance, showing a hint of helplessness in his eyes, ”I thought the academy faction was supposed to be the upholders of order.”

Cheng Qingshan carelessly rolled his eyes, ”You impound people on a whim only to talk about order now?”

But Gavin had his own line of reasoning, and he replied with a cold face.

”That’s just a minor flaw, the incident was sudden, shortening the procedure helps resolve the issue quickly.”

”A minor flaw?” Cheng Qingshan sneered disdainfully, ”What a double standard!”

”If the academy wasn’t the upholder of order, I would have been able to kill Jettel on the spot back then.”

Gavin glanced at him in surprise, ”So you were the one who captured him?”

Cheng Qingshan nodded slightly, ”But at that time, Jettel was being pummeled by all three of them.”

Then he pointed to Qu Jianlei, ”Let me introduce, this Panda, is the person involved.”

Gavin finally understood and curiously looked at Qu Jianlei, ”So, you... were the one beating down the A-level?”

Qu Jianlei drooped his eyelids, too lazy to answer.

Their sarcastic attitudes made Gavin really want to test if this guy was any good.

Yet for some reason, when he had this thought, that sense of threat enveloped him once again.

Thinking about the two Supremes behind the opponent, he finally abandoned the idea.

Then he lightly snorted, ”What are you all doing here in the middle of the night in this wasteland?”

The three women and one man across him didn’t answer his question.

Instead, Cheng Qingshan spoke up again, ”I say, Gavin, you’re meddling too much... Are the academy’s affairs your concern?”

Gavin glanced at him and turned towards the armored vehicle; there was no way to continue questioning this matter.

But coming away empty-handed made the obstinate Military Discipline Officer feel disgruntled.

So, he called his colleagues at the academy to find out what Xiang Xue and the other two were up to in the middle of the night.

It turned out he uncovered the truth: the three were researching and testing arrays.

Gavin almost turned back again—without military authorization, dare to modify arrays?

Truly a group of lawless people!

However, it’s unfortunate that he has no jurisdiction over this matter!

If running into people with no background, the Military Discipline Officer wouldn’t mind overreaching and capturing them to hand over to the relevant person in charge.

But with their deep background, enjoying throwing the book at him, he decided not to humiliate himself.

Early the next morning, Gavin started drafting a summary report, estimating that after submitting it, he wouldn’t be the only one swearing at it.

He hadn’t finished writing it when the Deputy Commanding Officer of the war zone called, asking him to come to the office.

The Military Discipline Officer is under the direct supervision of the Star Domain War Zone, and the influence of Star No. 4’s war zone on him is limited. This Deputy Commanding Officer doesn’t oversee him either.

But ultimately, a superior is a superior; in the military, that’s how it works, otherwise, what’s the point of ranks?

The Deputy Commanding Officer called him over because he heard that Gavin went to the Engineering College yesterday and wanted to know if anything unusual was happening there.

Recalling the matter filled Gavin with anger.

But since the Deputy Commanding Officer wasn’t in charge of military discipline, the Military Discipline Officer couldn’t reveal things from his domain, at least not from him.

He just sulkily snorted, ”There are too many big shots in the academy, couldn’t get it done... the academy faction is becoming more powerful!”

The Deputy Commanding Officer nodded in agreement, ”Yes, but... without people from the academy, things won’t work.”

Then he explained his intentions, ”The people from the Star Domain Research Institute asked if there was anything special happening?”

”Yes,” Gavin nodded, ”someone is privately researching arrays, without authorization.”

”So it’s an array,” the Deputy Commanding Officer nodded thoughtfully; he had guessed upon receiving the communication.

”Who are they, and how are they progressing?”

”Didn’t ask in detail,” the Military Discipline Officer replied candidly, ”it’s not within my responsibility.”

Having a sense of responsibility? The Deputy Commanding Officer looked at him with surprise, ”Don’t even know who they are?”

”That I do know,” the Military Discipline Officer nodded, ”one is called Xiang Xue, the other is Panda.”

He also knew the middle-aged B-level female was just a guardian, so naturally, he didn’t mention her.

The two lead a team? The Deputy Commanding Officer pondered with a nod, ”Alright, you go busy yourself.”

Once he had the clues, he inquired further, and ended up shocked... it wasn’t a team at all!

This information was absurd, but there was no need to doubt it because both were aid teachers from Star No. 2.

How could aid teachers lead a local team?

The Deputy Commanding Officer finally understood why the Star Domain Research Institute was interested; their potential was simply too great!

Then it was very necessary to make contact, if we could recruit two talents for the military, wouldn’t that count as an achievement?

However, thinking about Gavin’s expression just now, the deputy commander pondered again: It’s better to inquire first.

As for asking the Military Discipline Officer? He had no such intention: that guy is both stubborn and unpleasant; if unnecessary, there’s no need to interact!

After inquiring a bit, the deputy commander was a bit stunned: Gavin actually went to Xiang Xue yesterday, and it looks like he hit a wall?

That needed to be taken seriously, as he had someone ask again, confirming that the other party was indeed quite prickly.

The missing Jettel was actually suppressed by Panda and Xiang Xue, and didn’t manage to escape.

As for the involvement of matters with two Supremes, he wasn’t very clear.

After all, Gavin isn’t a talkative person, and when it comes to matters concerning the Supremes, even those who are talkative must weigh their words.

In any case, anyone who can suppress A-level people should be befriended.

Qu Jianlei didn’t expect that on the third day after Gavin arrived, the military sent someone again.

However, this time the visitor’s attitude was very polite, smiling even before speaking, extremely affable.

The two-person team that came was responsible for an Earth Attribute B-level, named Hals, and he looked extremely prosperous.

According to his self-introduction, he also did array research, so they could communicate and exchange ideas.

Qu Jianlei did not deny his inquiries, as more than one person knew he was delving into array studies.

Hals also asked about inheritance matters, but Qu Jianlei did not answer, directly stating it involved personal privacy.

Then, Hals surprisingly didn’t ask further, just asked if their research needed any help.

If they could exchange ideas, he was willing to help analyze the current problems.

If they didn’t trust him, he could also assist in coordinating some materials.

Qu Jianlei really didn’t expect such good fortune to fall from the sky.

But Xiang Xue straightforwardly refused; benefits from the military are indeed hard to digest—trying to recruit us?

Hals smiled and retorted: Isn’t being recruited by the military a good thing?

This statement wasn’t entirely wrong; although the military controls strictly and casualty rates are high, researchers aren’t in military posts.

The military’s civilian staff have sufficient life safety ensuring, and funding is abundant.

Qu Jianlei refused again, but Hals proposed another suggestion: The military can set up a project for you to bid on!

The premise is that he needs to know the type of defense array being researched—can’t set up a project without understanding the specifics.

Qu Jianlei refused to reveal this point, as his defense array concept was derived from a fragmented chart, making it difficult to explain.

Hals was continuously refused but remained undisturbed.

He merely stated that if the deal didn’t work out, it wasn’t important; he would come back in a couple of days to inquire again.

He was very patient, but Qu Jianlei really didn’t have much time to waste on stories, indicating it wasn’t necessary.

However, he said his piece, and Hals went about his business, as if he hadn’t heard anything.

He wasn’t in a hurry to understand the array, just coming daily to chat leisurely, as regularly as clocking into work.

Qu Jianlei knew this was Hals making an emotional investment, and didn’t mind anymore.

Anyway, as long as he didn’t hinder my work, I didn’t care why he came, and as for recruitment and the like, don’t even think about it.

Due to being watched, Qu Jianlei became much more vigilant during evening tests, ready to pack up if anything seemed wrong.

However, Hals conducted himself differently, coming openly and leaving forthrightly.

Qu Jianlei generally didn’t think highly of military people, but found it hard to harbor any aversion toward this man.

In a blink, five days passed, and nearing midday, Hals came again.

He didn’t even knock on the courtyard door, just parked his car at the gate and sat inside reading a book.

Qu Jianlei had perceived before, to see what book this guy was reading.

But after noticing the ”Top Secret” mark on the cover, he abandoned any such ideas—you’d beg me to read, and I wouldn’t.

When it was time to eat, he walked out of the courtyard and headed straight for the cafeteria, as usual.

Hals opened the car door and got out, accompanying him straight to the cafeteria, ”Panda, I have things to do in the next two days and might not be able to come.”

”No need to come,” Qu Jianlei replied casually.

”I know you’re sincere, but it’s useless; really don’t waste time here.”

”I’m just taking a break,” Hals said with a smile, ”Coming here every day is convenient for taking a breather.”

This was his usual line.

Don’t be fooled by his affable demeanor with Qu Jianlei; as a B-level Warrior, he also had responsibilities in the military.

He claimed he didn’t like managing affairs, yet had to, coming to the Engineering College allowed him to delegate the messy stuff.

Inwardly, Qu Jianlei tended to agree with this; some people crave power, but others truly don’t care.

”You should have done something serious long ago; clearly you’re into research, yet you’re always entertaining guests, what’s the point?”

”The next two days will still be entertaining guests,” Hals replied bitterly, ”A delegation from Star No. 3 War Zone is coming over.”

”Star No. 3 War Zone?” Qu Jianlei was taken aback—responsible for overseeing Garbage Star, Star No. 3?
