Starting Cultivation in Wasteland

Chapter 149: Chapter 111: Arduous Journey

Chapter 111: The Arduous Journey (Third Update)

Qu Jianlei and the other two did not know that the small squad that had been driven away was crouching outside and watching them for most of the day.

Bentley might have thought of it, but he didn’t care either—how many mechas have they prepared to arm wrestle with a Modified Warrior?

Anyway, as they traveled, most people kept their distance, but occasionally they also faced probes.

However, most of these probing attackers did not dare to initiate combat without a word—what if the heavy truck belonged to a major power?

So choosing a heavy truck for the journey still reduced a lot of trouble.

But even so, there were still those who were reckless enough; in any society, there was never a shortage of risk-takers.

In the Wasteland, such red-eyed people were particularly rampant.

What frustrated them was that after several battles, they ended up making losses.

Even Bentley couldn’t help but curse, ”Damn it! Trying to ambush a heavy truck with a broken gun and a few Fire Bows?”

”With that intelligence, one might as well go become meat buns for the Fallen.”

After walking for almost a month, the three finally reached the edge of the Zone Zhou Character.

The edge of the Zone Zhou Character was a desert, but as winter was approaching, Bentley indicated that this was the right time to cross the desert.

If crossing in the summer, just the water consumption would be much higher than in winter, and the various desert creatures would be very active.

Crossing the desert took another month, and they encountered some creatures... fortunately, no more losses.

The fascinating part was that the settlement they reached was not the ’Yu Character’ but the Yellow Character Settlement.

According to Bentley, going to the Yu Character area was fine, but reaching the Yellow Character was more convenient, even though the desert route was harder.

Upon arriving at the Yellow Character, the atmosphere distinctly changed; the environment here was somewhat better.

There were actually scattered farmlands, mostly in greenhouses, but it was indeed different.

The public order was relatively better... just slightly, basically, no one stupidly stared at the heavy truck.

Many outdoor camps actually had children visible everywhere.

It showed that the survival environment here was much better than the Hong Character or Zone Zhou Character—not only could kids grow up, but people dared to have children.

However, more formal inspections increased, not just at the settlement, even outdoor camps had occasional checks.

The heavy truck of Qu Jianlei and his group was even subjected to a sudden inspection once in the wild.

On the other side, there were at least four cars and a dozen motorcycles; as soon as they met, the other side signaled to stop for inspection.

Flower Scorpion’s response was to directly fire a shot—not aimed at people, but her attitude was clear.

The other side was clearly taken aback, then a motorcyclist came over carrying a white flag.

The motorcyclist stated they were capturing wanted criminals, and all suspicious individuals had to be checked.

Bentley revealed a certain item briefly without saying much, and the other side immediately became respectful.

However, even so, this person still insisted on checking the identities of others and inspecting the vehicle.

Upon hearing this, Bentley’s face dropped immediately, ”Let me see your credentials.”

The motorcyclist could only mumble, saying he was not an official but just volunteering to help.

”Scram,” Bentley lit a cigarette, squinting as he spoke, ”Leave now, or we’ll take action.”

The motorcyclist dared not provoke, ”I’ll inform them to send someone with credentials?”

Bentley scoffed, ”If their credential level was sufficient, the small fries wouldn’t be someone like you, a nobody.”

The item he revealed must have significant authority, and ordinary inspectors had no right to check them or their vehicle.

The motorcyclist was dazed; he didn’t know the extent of the other party’s identity and could only turn back to report.

The convoy discussed briefly and signaled ”Pass.”

Upon seeing this, Qu Jianlei couldn’t help but glance at the old man, ”Old Ben, that was impressive.”

”Just an auxiliary inspection from unofficial forces,” Bentley drove slowly, ”they might be trying to fish in troubled waters.”

The Wasteland remains the same Wasteland; the order in the Yellow Character District is a bit better, but only a bit.

The three traveled through the Yellow Character District for more than two months before reaching the checkpoint into the Profound Character area.

Indeed, from the Yellow Character to the Profound Character Settlement, there was no significant natural barrier, the obstacle was the checkpoint.

All matters of crossing the checkpoint were naturally entrusted to the old hand Bentley.

The old man didn’t disappoint them; their identities passed directly.

Other verifications were inevitable. This time, Qu Jianlei and Flower Scorpion changed identities, becoming Bentley’s ”Attendants.”

Old Ben’s ability to forge identities was truly remarkable, having the authority to bring attendants through.

The Gatekeeper did a rough check of the vehicle, but seeing it full of supplies, had no trace of covetousness.

On the contrary, there was a hint of awe in their eyes when looking at Bentley.

—Only such a bigwig could carry so many supplies back safely from the Yellow Character District, right?

The settlement ranking is ”Celestial Profound and Earthly Yellow” and not ”Earthly Celestial Profound Yellow.” Entering the Profound Character District, they were one step away from the Celestial Character.

This one step took them another month as they finally arrived at the checkpoint.

Leaving the Profound Character District was easy, but to reach the Celestial Character District, they still needed to cross a river over three kilometers wide.

At the end of winter, the ice barely supported people, and snowmobiles and the like were okay.

But Qu Jianlei’s heavy truck was definitely not able to cross, so they had to board an icebreaking ferry.

The three of them and one vehicle paid a fee of one hundred and twenty silver coins to cross this river over three kilometers wide.
